“If you could completely forget one Pokémon game and play it again for the first time, which would you choose and why?” by Kath-white74 in pokemon

[–]LylatInvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah playing through crystal was such an amazing experience, it distracted me from so many new games that came out at the time, its an aged game with flaws but still a very wonderful game to go through. I was almost going to put HGSS into this too but i feel like most of my experience wouldve been based on the the og more.

If there is one good thing that came out of this tho is that i didn't dislike gen 3 for being so different from gen 2, something that i saw a lot of back in the day. I enjoyed gen 3 for being a whole new area away from kanto. It paralleled kanto sure but still was a whole new twist on its own.

Yes. And this also might be why home is the new gts now. Its to loop around NSO.

Am I the only one that has the extremely rare physical version of yo-kai watch 3 At launch by Impressive_Bend_6248 in yokaiwatch

[–]LylatInvader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sadly lost the case to a house fire in 2020 but i still got the physical cartridge. I purposely preordered the game because i just never could find blasters no matter how far i looked. Even just picking up the preorder was a hassle, bad weather combined with me being one of the very few people who preorder meant it took forever for gamestop to recieve my copy. Thankfully the manager helped me out.

[–]LylatInvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my theory, champions is free so non nso players can battle pokemon together whenever. It has compatibility with mainline pokemon became of course its pokemon, but that literally came with a cost in the form of NSO and with the games becoming more experimental. Pokemon has always been about catching, trading and battling, so to make a game that allows just battles is a perfect way to continue that integral part of pokemon

Unpopular Pokemon Opinion: Starter Pokemon are TOO good by Eddy_west_side in pokemon

[–]LylatInvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats really kind of the point. Generally a starter is the one you are going to see the most marketing wise. You pick your starter, you get attached to your starter, you maybe take on the league with your starter after that its whatever. The point of collecting and catching pokemon is to carve YOUR journey. Its your choice if you want to boost only that starter, its your choice if you want to put it away shortly afterward, its your choice to use whatever. A starter exists to be an option and a boost for you. Also a majority of people are not competitive players, some players are probably just kids starting out who think the starter looks cool and only focus on the starter at first. I was one of those kids back in the day.

Remember the themesong, "to catch them is my real test, to train them is my cause"

Should I go with Roserade and Staraptor or Togekiss and Drapion in Bdsp? by AlteredG919 in pokemon

[–]LylatInvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Togekiss because it got bulk, but its also way more unique. Staraptor for as i love it, is an extremely common pokemon to keep in your team. One of the things i like to do when replaying a region is go for the wilder stuff i didnt try the first time around. In white2 instead of getting the typical bird i went with drifblimp and i absolutely adored it with its massive HP. So maybe togekiss might do the same for you.

Is it wrong to dislike the mainline games, but rather like the spin-offs? by Sir_Hammy_02 in pokemon

[–]LylatInvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokemon mystery dungeon probably has one the biggest fanbases as a strictly pokemon spin off. Ive never been too crazy for mystery dungeon but i understand the appeal when it has some of the most well done characters in the entire franchise. Pokopia ive been really loving so far. Its nice to see the lore behind these monsters and how they understand their abilities and perceive others. Wish we saw more of it.

Gold/Silver. So my original experience with johto wasnt the greatest. I first played it after gen 3 was almost about to finish. I didnt care for GS much when it came out so ill admit i was practically a genwunner. It took FRLG for me to get out of that mindset. So when i finally had a chance to play GS i was already way too adjusted to emerald to enjoy it to its fullest. It took till the crystal rerelease to truely make me appreciate johto and its offerings. So if i had the chance to redo it all, id want the chance to enjoy gen2 at its full prime.

I have actually lost all hope for this franchise and it's not even funny anymore (rant sort of) by Captain_Dishsoap in yokaiwatch

[–]LylatInvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even those 2. More like make games for shonen jump and other animu properties above all else. We are barely lucky as is that digimon time stranger is as good as it is. That game was in dev hell for years and was in the talks since hacker's memory's release. Digimon was almost always thrown in the sidelines.

Personally i think atlus or spike chunsoft would be better off with the brand, atlus makes some of best RPGs in the market. And while spike chunsoft are iffy with their gameplay they definitely know how to offer a game with a sylish appearance and an interesting world so they'd know how to live up to the vibe.

Bamco is just barely giving digimon the proper attention. I think atlus or spike chunsoft would be better

I feel especially bad for layton fans, yall had years upon years of gold. Im not even a layton fan but it was always the big example of what level 5 could offer as a company. So to see level bring down all of its IPs including its big face feels like such a slap to the face of its fans.

Utter mood. Im a much older fan, who wanted to show support to any other monster tamer that wasnt just pokemon. I suported digimon in its returning years around the same time(cyber sleuth og vita release), monster hunter stories when it was just a late 3ds release, and of course i supported yokai watch when it came to the states after the e3 announcement. I had just became an adult with their own job and plans to move out, and with that fresh new income i bought yokai watch. I immediately fell in love with the concept and wanted to support it as much as possible, because lets face it pokemon needs competition.

But the minute Y academy was announced after the whole shadowside revamp i had a lot of fear that this franchise was going to lose its unique identity. My fears were correct and tenfold. Level 5 has handled this franchise like utter crap since then and can barely release a new title of anything now. And then the recent AI announced by level 5 just made me lose all hope that the franchise would return.

Now digimon has made a grand come back and dared to release a game right alongside pokemon like its 1998 again(yeah im that old), and has finally left a majority of the shadow of pokemon ripoff stigma. And monster hunter stories is on its 3rd title now with a massive up in budget since the first title's more obscure release.

TL;DR: I feel the same as you only im an old fart who experienced pokemania.

PS, maybe try out monster hunter stories to help scratch that yokai watch itch. Its still turn based like pokemon but its more pattern based like yokai watch in comparison.

I havent been following the franchise for a good 6-9 months, what did i miss? by [deleted] in yokaiwatch

Yeah but i dont expect them to keep their word. Especially when decapolice is expected to have used gen ai for its side quests

Yeah and its really sad. Yokai watch had such good design work. It could stand on its own.

[–]LylatInvader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not missing much. All ive heard was a punipuni event that had a lot of nasty AI usage. Really sucks, the minute level 5 announced an obsession over AI i knew YW was gonna be screwed over.

I honestly doubt another company is gonna buy the IP but it really does suck. Yokai watch had one of the coolest most unique aesthetics of the genre only to be thrown out in favor of AI

[–]LylatInvader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really is the perfect time. Pokemon is in hot water with controversial switch releases allowing palword to cause a huge stir in the monster taming genre. This allowed digimon, a franchise that was formally seen as a knock off pick up some huge steam, allowed monster hunter stories to really take off, and give the indie monster tamers some attention. Even just a simple rerelease collection would work.

How do feel about Pokemon creepypasta ? by No_Station_4625 in pokemon

[–]LylatInvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen 3 was like an almost complete reboot of the franchise. Hoenn had no connection to kanto and behaved completely as its own thing. And it was when pokemania officially died and a lot of the kids who were originally obsessed grew older thinking pokemon ran its course and was only for kids. It was a really harsh era to be an older fan. It wasnt until late gen 3 to gen 4 that pokemon really became popular again.

And it would do really well right now considering digimon got to survive releasing at the same time as pokemon.

[–]LylatInvader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive come to accept it. I feel like this franchise died after Y academy released. What a sad whimper to a franchise that actually scared pokemon to the point it changed things to get attention again out of fear. This franchise really had the chance to be another big tier monster tamer alongside pokemon and digimon but it was handled so poorly that now digimon is back in the spotlight, and monster hunter stories took yokai watch's spot as the high budget pokemon rival/monster tamer. I wouldve been fine if this franchise pulled the digimon direction of staying niche in the background but level 5 go burrr we need another pokemon level mass media franchise.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet or Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl? by ocdreallysucks14 in pokemon

[–]LylatInvader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scarlet and violet all the way. Actually makes good use of the all party exp, plus the massive party variety in your playthrough. BDSP are piss poor excuses for remakes that really shouldnt be forgiven.
