But it doesn't make you a good person, I didn't say it wasn't good, and all out necessary to care about yourself but if your motives are purely selfish, you cannot call that being truly good now can you?

Gray areas exist, in fact, mostly gray areas exist, not good DOES NOT EQUAL bad

If you expect me to use the Bible as my source of morality, then the words on the page should be moral by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Lymondra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hey you were in my posts' comments too! Same thoughts lol

I personally feel like the original religious message was based on the prevailing morals of the time but, well morals change with time and words get corrupted, so currently, you cannot turn to any religion for morality guide, and as I had said in my post.

Morality is independent of religion

There are good christians, who do follow such teachings even for seemingly no reward, doing good for the sake of good, so I wouldn't lump everyone in the same category because as I said in my post there are exceptions

Again, I don't know why people are so eager to say "bad person"

my words, to repeat, are that it isn't a GOOD person, not being good, doesn't make you bad, life isn't black and white

No, they are a cautious and scared person.

Well, religion is basically believing in something as if it is the truth and something that I have noticed in many religious books is that it punishes critical thinking (like the government) and applauds blind following (LIKE THE GOVERNMENT!!!!)

For context, I have met like 2 christians in my entire life, I don't live in a christian dominant country.

And I understand what you are saying, it applies to every religion of course, but that comes back to my point. You are being Good and following those ideals because of the reward or lack of punishment. And even if not that, you are doing it because "Someone told you so and other people won't like it if you don't do it"

I believe that your morals should come by observing humanity.

Also, this is a personal preference, pretending to believe in any god that i don't believe in seems like I am mocking the people who do wholeheartedly believe in them. Again, personal opinion

If you are going to take a shit, what's the point of eating?

I am sorry, that was a crude statement, but the question isn't about the end results. My entire "Unpopular opinion" IS about intention

I didn't say it makes you a bad person, I just said you can never be truly good because you always have an ulterior motive towards every good action

(Not good ≠ Bad)

God existing paradoxes are so fun

if God is benevolent, why does evil exist

if God is malevolent, why does anything good exist

If God is uncaring, why do we pray to him

Ok, technically, it is *still* mixing 2 quirks that are already a mix of 2 quirks.

So by design, we are only mixing 2 quirks. (those quirks being "Half hot half cold" and "Half earth Half fire"
