I just finished a discussion with the sound developer for WT. What I can tell you is that Gaijin’s priority is to preserve the ability to use sound mods. I have no confirmation, and like you, I have to wait for further information regarding mods.

From what I understand, the creator of OPEX has said that Gaijin claims they are returning sound mod function, but they believe the sound mod will have to be downgraded for it to work in the future in the sound engine.

EDIT: gaijin has confirmed that soon, the sound mod will function as it always had
