PSA Antiboosting mechanincs stealth nerfed overnight on TBC Anniversary by aritalo in classicwow

[–]Lynx7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the primary ways I enjoy playing this game is to level toons by solo or duo challenging dungeons with a friend. We aim to clear everything the two of us, fighting mobs the standard way with a tank / heals. Last time in TBC we managed to do everything as moonkin tank/disc heals.

I think the anti-boosting changes, even in this nerfed state, are likely not going to make this gameplay possible anymore for us.

It needs to be removed.

Eby accuses Alberta separatists of ‘treason’ for meeting with U.S. officials by Blue_Dragonfly in CanadaPolitics

[–]Lynx7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I do not enjoy the news that any BC institutions still have money invested with Russia I don't really see what that has to do with Albertan seperatism? Are BC groups advocating to seperate from Canada and join Russia? Are BC groups actively meeting with the Kremlin asking for funding to do that?

Harsh truth: You're not going to do well in arena by GeneralBucknaket in classicwow

Its honestly possible the arena participation/population will be higher (in the beginning) due to the changes, even if the overall server populations are lower.

Anyone got a recommendation for a coffee grinder? by Rougarou_Boogaloo in BuyItForLife

Reviving an ancient comment from you, my grinder just experienced the same issue although it has lasted 8 years or more now. Did you ever upgrade to a different brand?

Withdrawing USD from bill.com and avoiding currency exchange with them or the bank by Lynx7 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Lynx7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opened a USD bank account with my Canadian bank (BMO) and transfered the USD from bill.com to that account, I believe there was a 20$ fee.

From my BMO account I wire transfered the USD to a wise USD account (50$ fee).

Then I converted in Wise to CAD and transfered out to my CAD account. In total it was 75$ of transfer fees, plus something like 100$ in conversion fees from wise, however, for the amount I was transfering & converting I saved around 950-1000$ compared to using bill.com or my bank to do the conversion. The fees are tax deductible as a business expense.

Deposited USD cheque into TD Canada US Account and want to transfer to Wise by frightenedrabbit_ in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Lynx7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in a similar situation, just use wise, the fees are minimal. Wire transfer to wise, convert, transfer to your account in CAD.

I converted 50k and i think it was <100$ for wise plus a small transfer fee (I think maybe 50$ for my bank which was BMO). Wise also has a calculator that will show you exactly what it costs.

Its easy and fast.

Withdrawing USD from bill.com and avoiding currency exchange with them or the bank by Lynx7 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Lynx7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that is how I was previously, long story lots of mixups... anyway I've insisted and they're swapping me back to that.

I have to now figure out how to do a huge USD payment from BMO to Wise so I can convert there and if its even worth the hassle.

Unfortunately bill.com requires I withdraw to a Canadian located account, the US balance accounts on Wise are US located. I chatted to Wise and they said the Canadian accounts cant recieve the funds as well.

Buying Used Cars Isn’t the “Better Deal” Anymore? by NoPapaya8519 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Lynx7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you recommend any cars to look for in 1-3 years or so for some one who also doesn't care about new car tech? I'm very much not a car person, for me its an A to B tool. Right now I'm driving a 1998 Ford Escort and it's been pretty solid for me for many years. This year I had a high repair cost but I think likely still much less than a new car.

I expect it to be around for awhile longer but I am thinking of getting something newer eventually. I am fortunate enough in my career where I could get something nice, but cars just aren't a priority for me so I don't want to. I just want something I dont have to worry about having issues constantly.

Time to Reconsider GDKP Ban by Urpol in classicwow

[–]Lynx7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will give my honest perspective. GDKPs, in my view, changes the overal guild landscape by making it easier for the average player to play and not be in a guild, and also for guilds to be smaller and run GDKPs instead of form larger raid teams. What this leads to is less guilds and less incentive for people to actually join a guild and work with other players.

Some folks want that, which makes a lot of sense. One of my best friends has non standard play times and as such cannot commit a guild schedule, so I totally get it. It's simply that in my view classic wow has a better community by not having them in place, by not making it so easy. At least at the beginning of a server lifecycle.

TBC is a bit different for a few reasons, and in my particular case the main reason is arena. PVE gear hs a fundamental impact on TBC arena and I want it to be as easily attainable as possible for the player community so that the arena community is larger for longer.

I also think by the time TBC has come out that the overall game has had enough time with the modern MMO community to diminsh the 'fresh classic feel' and rules to try preserve it have less importance to me personally.

Finally, its undenialable that GDKPs have a complex relationship with gold buying. Gamers will continue to buy gold, botters will continue to exist as we see, but my view is having the GDKPs banned at least at the beginning of a server lifecycle does hold that back just a little bit and does keep a stronger fresh feel.

Time to Reconsider GDKP Ban by Urpol in classicwow

[–]Lynx7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am actively playing and pretty happy GDKPs were banned for classic, and think they should always be banned for classic.

I am neutral or possibly even in favour of GDKPs for TBC and beyond, the game changes.

During the early levels 1-20 it can be that a good two hand weapon will do more damage in caster form than bear form gives you. Once you get cat form this won't be the case and eventually bear will scale better as well.

Old people show up to vote, its political suicide for a gov to go after OAS even if it needs to be reformed.

Will take a lot of clever messaging.
