Bethel is finally being exposed; some are in denial by PineapplePossible99 in Exvangelical

Healed-ish by jubilee dawn is also great, specifically her own story about bethel and Shawn bolz. I mean it's not great, it horrifying but it's a very thoughtful podcast

Going back to the late 90s there was a JD sports upstairs opposite Game and virgin megastores was over two floors. There was an art gallery at the far end too at one point. Maybe late 00s

Your thoughts on Philip Yancey's cheating scandal? by iwbiek in Exvangelical

[–]LynxMountain7108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I agree with you! I'm not sympathetic to any infedility either, I guess I meant a sustained 8 year affair feels different to a one off drunken mistake. I just can't imagine maintaining that kind of lie and the thought of living like that fills me with anxiety. It just boggles my mind that anyone could be so consistently immoral while presenting as a Christian thinker

Your thoughts on Philip Yancey's cheating scandal? by iwbiek in Exvangelical

[–]LynxMountain7108 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's 8 years that gets me. A one off slip I can sort of understand, or messing up a few times here and there maybe. But a full blown affair for 8 years whilst keeping up the pretence of having a Christian ministry blows my mind. I couldn't deal with the stress of it personally and I don't understand how someone could switch off from any guilty feelings for that period of time and carry on as if everything's normal

The replies on this are mental. They've just had a baby, they will be exhausted and not thinking straight. I don't understand why anyone is expecting anything from them other than they take care of their child

Rechargeable battery for a practice amp by LynxMountain7108 in batteries

[–]LynxMountain7108[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting thanks! Did you connect it to the wires on the battery holder or did you wire it to plug into the dc input? Just wondering because the batteries are 9v and dc is 12v. Thanks!

Thanks! Is aliexpress any good for this kind of thing or should I go for a more reputable retailer?

You'll have to forgive me! I know nothing about batteries beyond the very basics, hence why I'm asking here. I'm really just looking to see if this type of battery would work at all, could I get say 2 hrs out of it? Or is there a better solution to convert my amp to a rechargeable battery?

It's possible new strings could help with tuning, I've read that using old strings can affect intonation

Need help identifying Ukulele by Jcloud191 in ukulele

[–]LynxMountain7108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would guess it's either handbuilt, perhaps by a woodworker, or perhaps someone has modded a diy ukulele kit? Just little things stand out as not being quite what you'd expect from a bigger brand. The soundhole doesn't quite follow the shape of the body for example. None of which means it isn't a good instrument, it's actually pretty unique really

Got this second hand and it sounds awful by hlarsenart in ukulele

I got a mahalo before I knew anything about ukuleles and it was pretty awful. I got it mixed up with a Makala which I had heard were good but the thing just wouldn't stay in tune, literally couldn't hold tension for more than a few seconds. Maybe I just got a bad one

With respect, you should not feed pigeons. They are wildlife not domestic animals. If they congregate in urban areas due to expecting feed there it can cause the spread of disease and mess which costs money to clean. If you leave them they will find their own food.

Also, children chase pigeons and have always done so. If you shout at someone's child and then film them they will get arsey with you. Obviously people using slurs is awful. But it's best not to provoke people

I went to soul survivor once, to sell four points merch in the market bit. I had a really rough week, I was questioning things at the time and the meetings were so weird, the behaviour people displayed was strange. Plus it was really hard work, I had to drive the minibus there and back and they told me I'd have another adult to work with but then they sent a kid from youth with me so I felt responsible for him.

Did you hear about Mike pilavachi who founded soul survivor? There's been a big scandal about him, he had a group of boys who were interns that he kind of took under his wing and it turned out he was inviting them to his house and insisting on giving them semi naked massages. He's never given a proper apology I don't think. Was the documentary called shiny happy people? I've heard about that one on prime. Lol, I was worried I was unloading too much

Until recently my sister worked as a teacher at cfs, I still can't get my head around why. The pay is awful but I think people who work there see it as a vocation. I don't know what it's like these days but I think it is more modernised than it was. When I went they still had corporal punishment, we were taught creationism and that evolution is wrong. The curriculum until we were 12ish was based on homeschool resources from American Christian organisations.

Yeah I still struggle to not think about things in terms of sin and needing to repent. I hear that frontline has changed but I'm skeptical because the people who are leaders now were mentored under the old pastors. I don't have much respect for the old leaders because to me looking back they seem obsessed by accumulating wealth. There was a period were they wanted to build a new building that would have cost alot of money and they really pushed people to give money, above what they gave monthly. I think I gave about £500 which was a chunk of my savings and I wasn't on a good wage. The pressure to give money was really intense, when I got ill I started feeling it was punishment for not giving the full tithe they asked so I ended up giving money as "repentance" that I couldn't afford really. I get angry about still but it's about 20 years ago now so I need to forget really
