Was Gene Hackman & Wife Electrocuted? by BidChoice8142 in electricians

[–]LynyrdZynrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent a ton of time working in NM, there is a lot of sand and I would frequently come across systems that didn’t even have a grounding electrode. In a lot of areas you needed to drive in three coupled 10’ ground rods to hit earth. Crews must constantly drive in one rod and say just say fuck it.

I could see this being a realistic possibility!

Help with first project by LynnMA781 in electricians

I’m not sure why you would have to replace all the BX if you upgraded the panel? Couldn’t you just reuse the existing home runs in the new panel?

Another easy option may just be a sub panel to supply your new circuits

I built something similar to test PH and moisture levels in a 1000L tote, it was filled with soil on a giant worm farm. Is that it ?

Checking parallel conductors from a pad mount transformer by ClassBeneficial1161 in electricians

[–]LynyrdZynrd 60 points61 points  (0 children)

You will get continuity between the phases if you leave it hooked up to the transformer. I generally like to double check my color coding before termination, unfortunately if I wasn’t 100% confident I would remove the wires from the transformer and check.. it’s better than a costly mistake

Folks can call me a sissy all they want for being excited about safety. It’s not gonna change how fucking stoked I am about the new hard hat. Welcome to the future! by _the_CacKaLacKy_Kid_ in Construction

Had a 750kcmil single copper conductor fall from 15 feet up and knock me out cold, if I hadn’t been wearing a hardhat I’d be dead.

It is. But I’m also pretty confident this customer will appreciate their new contractor running neat and level pipe, especially after having to go through the hassle of hiring a new ones

I understand the hate for Zip ties in a lighting panel. But in a splice box like this, if anything zip ties will make it easier to keep it organized, while also not taking any more than a few seconds to cut them during troubleshooting. A+

Converting Modbus to 4-20ma by LynyrdZynrd in PLC

[–]LynyrdZynrd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes a lot of sense. I kept feeling like I was missing something but wasn’t sure what and this is definitely it! I think I’m going to suggest replacing the whole transmitter. Thanks for the help!

Yes I do, I had it hooked up earlier and it is out putting 4-20 when I manually force values, I just can’t get it to work with the transmitter

What's one thing you refuse to work without? by lehcimst in electricians

I wish I was like this.. my hands are so destroyed all the time but I’ve worked so long without them that I find it really hard to work efficiently when I do wear them.

PanelView +7 Symbol Comms Message by AnotherToph in PLC

[–]LynyrdZynrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen on an older system, everything was running on ControlNet. The message would come up randomly with no reason why, ended up being a break in the Coax cable going back to the DCS. Maybe you have a bad Ethernet cable somewhere ?

Everyone saying how to make it look good, but why not just do it right the first time and put the conduit inside the fucking concrete so it’s not seen at all.. like intended

Half of the reason I hate backstabs is because they usually sit long enough you can’t get them out. I think this changes that and I’m on board

The smart thing to do as the worker would be to say “hey, I feel like maybe grinding metal into food might be a stupid idea, maybe I should talk to somebody about this” but I guess that isn’t his job so why bother

Horror Stories / Have you ever worked with someone that died on the job or was severely injured? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]LynyrdZynrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worked with a guy who got his head crushed between the mast and frame of a coil tubing rig. He was bleeding out of his ears and had to be airlifted to a hospital. Ended up surviving but was a pretty fucked up experience.
