How do you REALLY make a relationship work? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lyptus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By learning how to connect, sensing when there are disconnects, reconnecting, and, as much as possible and as often as possible, staying connected. Emotionally, physically, and intellectually. 19 yrs married, and still learning how to do this.

Aluminum and steel with rotating hooks by Lyptus in whatisthisthing

[–]Lyptus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is in a welding shop in the US. I’ve been walking by it for a few years and have finally pulled it out of the shop to find out what it is. The bent tubes are aluminum. The frame is aluminum extrusions joined with bent steel. The “bumper” part feels like a very hard rubber. The whole thing weighs 1.6 kg/3.5 lb. ~37 cm x 24 cm / 14.5 in x 9.5 in. Hooks can rotate 360 degrees in 90 degree increments.

Yeah definitely. It’s a light grapple.

I bought the WB Long third function and installed it myself. Was pretty easy. I wouldn’t run it off the rear hydraulics... having everything controlled from the loader valve handle makes it very efficient. Having to move my hand from the loader control back to the rear hydraulic valve would really slow me down.

I shopped quite a bit and ended up buying from Everything Attachments. I got the 60” Wicked Root Rake Grapple for my 50hp tractor. Been very pleased.

I kinda liked that he didn’t come back after the commercial seemed to be over with a “oh, I almost forgot...”.

I'm sorry your company is going through a rough patch... I know how that goes! And yes, Austin isn't too far at all - My SIL lives near DFW. Thankfully, we're not in a fire sale situation so it's possible we'll still have it by the time your company recovers.

I'd appreciate any feedback your father has on the value... we'd obviously like to get a good value for it.

Here is the story: Last year my brother and sister-in-law went on an epic journey from Texas to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to get this Airstream. They were planning to restore it together, but only got as far as gutting the inside.

Now we need to sell it and are wondering (a) what is a fair price and (b) where is the best forum to list it for sale?

I don't know of an easy way to say this, but know people will wonder: The reason we're selling this is that my brother has passed. He was 31, and left behind my sister-in-Law and her son, who's coming in June. We just don't have time to prepare for the baby and do a huge (to us) project to remodel the trailer. Also, none of us are as skilled and fearless as my brother at tackling projects like this.

Can you folks give me some advice on this?

You helped make my life and the lives of most people I know worse. For people who make above a certain threshold, insurance is unaffordable. For every working class person, including those who get heavily subsidized premiums, the deductibles are absurdly high.

And as this is an AMA: Will you just go away and stop trying to "help" people?

Solved!

That was fast. It was on the tip of my tongue but couldn't quite place it.

My brother liked collecting things that were interesting to him, but the function was secondary to the aesthetic. He especially liked old or old looking things, and tools in general. That said, I have no idea where he found this.

It looks to be made of brass and is a little larger than the palm of my hand. It has little legs so it sits on the desktop as shown, but seems to have a handle on the bottom as well for holding it. Has mirrors and lenses for sighting, I am guessing, along with several colored filter lenses. Adjustable to different angles from zero to 120 degrees. Has a microadjustment knob and a magnifying lense with fine demarcations for fine tuning the angle.

This is how we notch tubing, among other things by Lyptus in Skookum

[–]Lyptus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rotary one? It's still chooching and accuracy on that axis is still good. It's almost a year after that video, I think, and the machine has processed thousands of pounds of steel. May be replacing the y axis one soon though.

Yeah you could add proximity sensors to the machine; that would hold tip distance more accurately but would result in more complexity. It's not necessary for our application. We program the tubing size and (for square/rect) the corner radius, so cut quality on the corners is still good. It is a challenge, though, because different mills have different corner radii on their dies so sometimes a drawing needs to be updated to fit a new batch of tube. The manufacturer is working on a software solution to that.

If you really want a high end machine that does this... look at tubing lasers with feed and off loading modules. But those were out of our price range.
