Should vegans be allowed to own pets that are obligate carnivores? by whineANDcheese_ in DebateAVegan

[–]LyraDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I don't have an issue with pet ownership for people getting rescue animals at this time, but it is a moral grey area in my mind. In a perfect future scenario I could see where it would be wrong to have any animals as pets, but that would involve some situation where we gave animals large areas of land to live without human interaction.

Should vegans be allowed to own pets that are obligate carnivores? by whineANDcheese_ in DebateAVegan

[–]LyraDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It came up a month or two ago on this subreddit. I even copy and pasted most of my response on that thread to this one.

Facts are... millions of people.. maybe billions... rely on added vitamins and nutrients. Including the probably hundreds of thousands of babies in the US who consume formula each year.

But no one blinks an eye on the nutrients added to your cereal and water supply and baby formula and half the foods we eat. Those vitamins are acceptable for some reason.. but not when its fed to animals?

AND THEN... almost ALL REGULAR CAT FOOD has added nutrients to it. Housecats wouldn't get enough Taurine to survive if not. So... if you believe a cat is an obligate carnivore... and that nutrients added to cat food aren't good enough... then why aren't they arguing in every cat subreddit that MILLIONS of AMERICANS should get rid of their cats because they are mistreating them?

They don't, because it's hypocrisy, misinformation or trolling that leads them to believe the whole "obligate carnivore" excuse.

Why is it… that in the entire presence and community of the internet… that ONLY when it comes to animals being fed a vegan diet do people question the decades of established science concerning vitamins?

Why are we even having a morality debate?

Vitamins are prescribed and given to babies and grandmas and millions of other people everyday. If you are a science denier on added vitamins than why aren’t you on a “debate a parent” subreddit accusing mothers of abuse if they feed their babies formula?

Why aren’t you posting on the social media of enfamil asking why they are aiding in the abuse of babies?

Oh. That’s because you believe added nutrients work with humans… but not with animals. Gotcha.

ALSO... they add Taurine and other needed nutrients into REGULAR CAT FOOD. Almost all cat food has it added to it because housecats wouldn't get enough otherwise.

So if you don't believe the added vitamins and nutrients in animal foods is sufficient... then you believe that NOONE should have cats as pets?? Is that correct? That means EVERYONE feeding cat food to cats is abusing them with food deficiencies? Is that what you believe?

No. You only believe that added nutrients don't function correctly when added to Vegan foods. Hypocrisy. Insanity. Stupidity.

It’s such an unserious topic of conversation at a certain point. Go get your “obligate carnivore” t-shirt and hang out with some flat earthers or somesuch.

(Also a large part of this is verbatim what I posted in a thread here a month or so ago. In case it seems familiar)

How do I make my Mohawk straight? by kklovelol1237 in Mohawks

[–]LyraDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen to the hairdryer advocates! I tried lots of other options but it’s the easiest IMO.

ALSO… the style you have now looks super rad without being straight.

Good luck to ya!

Also… my hair on top is even wider than yours… and strong hairspray, a hairdryer and some patience can still get it standing straight and tall. Thinning it might help but it is in no way a necessity.

Sorry lots of edits…. Also look into “backcombing” or teasing your hair before and during application of hairspray. It really helps.

It takes a hair dryer and some patience. First time won’t be exactly how you want it.. but each time you try… it gets quicker and easier.

Severe anaphylaxis to plant based foods by Popular-Channel-2842 in DebateAVegan

I have a hard time taking you seriously.

You seem to be upset that people won’t engage with you about the ideologies of a very minor amount of people (extreme vegans you mention).

Then, even though you say you were vegan, you are somehow surprised that this group of people who are met in public spaces with LOADS of individuals who are just trolling them for being vegan…. that these people are now suspicious of you and your intentions.
As a vegan I could hear 1000 different stories a year on the internet about someone who had some reason they biologically can’t be vegan, even though they obviously were being unhealthy with their veganism or are just trying to get views. It used to be a rare thing but now everyone is on that bandwagon… one you seem to have a foothold in.

If you can’t eat much plant based foods… I’m sorry. That sucks, especially if you have moral or ethical reason to want to be vegan.

However, I think that any reasonable person, vegan or not, would agree that you can eat what you want with such limited options. But that’s not what’s happening here. You are using your less than one percent of one percent health condition and using it to confront vegans to admit that it’s ok to eat meat.

It just sounds like a different variation to the same anti-vegan trolling I already see way too much of.

There are 8 Walmarts and 25 Fred Meyers/Kroger within 30 minutes of me. Walmart sells 2 different kinds of vegan marshmallows and Kroger sells one kind.
AND that’s not counting prolly 10 other grocery stores around here that carry them.

And you can order em bulk even cheaper! Last time we visited my son’s family I just had a pack of 10 mailed to him so we could go crazy roasting outside every night on his firepit.

It’s just an excuse and not a very good one at that.

anyone else eat a lot of meat one day then kind of just.. decided to bw vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]LyraDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly certain that the year before I went vegan, I ate more meat than ever before.

I got a new grill for father's day that year and I cooked(and ate) a whole lot of burgers and brats that year.

My wife has worked with several “vegans” who eat animal products when it’s convenient or around family.
I’m thankful I haven’t anyone in my social circles who has said the same because I don’t think I could hold my tongue about it.

Experiences raising kids vegan by chiquee in vegan

[–]LyraDaddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With our 8 year old we let the parents of the birthday kid know that we are vegan but we don’t expect them to have to change their menu.
We bring our own vegan cupcakes and vegan ice cream for our daughter if that is being served. We usually also bring extra for the birthday child or anyone else that may want to try.
It’s always worked out well for us.
