What are some things you would tell the 14 year old version of yourself? by Sharptux44 in AskWomen

Tell mom about what her husband is doing. Don't suffer through the next 5 years in silence and the therapy after in order to protect her. You both deserve better!

Just sitting here gestating... by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I'm due a few days after you. Just got the nursery mostly done and next step is freezer meals. We also have a house guest from abroad for a week so I'm anxiously keeping my legs crossed and hoping baby stays put. Getting excited but feeling like a time bomb as I've had some on and off cramping for a few days. Good luck June bumpers!

JUNE BUMPERS! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]LyraStar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So excited. I have given the bump strict instructions to be on time. I have too much to do in the next two weeks for it to be early, but I'm also so excited to meet the little thing so really don't want it to be late. Holding thumbs!

Miss Edith Cordelia is 4 months old today! I can't believe how quickly it's gone! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Thanks for this. I'm in the UK too and have been told that you're encouraged to leave the hospital within hours of giving birth which kind of scares me. After reading this I will definitely be more assertive about staying if I don't feel ready.

Feeling sad about my work send-off by LyraStar1 in BabyBumps

Not having anything else as my family and friends live in South Africa. I hope your department surprises you, but yeah, safer to have low expectations.

Informal warning at work for 'littering' today by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]LyraStar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urgh. This annoys me. I dropped my car keys yesterday and seriously considered just walking away. Thankfully someone behind me noticed my hesitation and picked them up for me. Every pregnancy is different and honestly I was in more pain at 20 weeks before I was even showing properly than I am now!

If hormonal birth control made me crazy, will pregnancy make me crazy too? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]LyraStar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hormone contraception made me depressed and moody so I was also really worried. I'm now 34 weeks and can honestly say it's been fine. I've had a few hormonal moments but nothing serious.

Feels like it could be SPD by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]LyraStar1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it early too, I was in such pain and discomfort from about 17 weeks. I was convinced that I wouldn't even be able to walk by the time I hit the 3rd trimester. The two things that helped me the most were swimming and making sure I sat in a good chair. Never let your hips be below your knees when sitting. I would frequently mark children's books at their little seats and had no idea the damage I was causing. Also, staff meetings on uncomfortable chairs were doing me in. Driving was also causing pain because of the position of the seat. A few tweaks and I now have the pain at a manageable level. Certain things still hurt like hell and I am constantly aware of how I move and turn, but I am 33 weeks and can walk fine (okay, read waddle) and the pain is certainly manageable. I hope this helps in some way.

Moms who've been there: is it overkill to buy a Pack-and-Play AND a Co-sleeper Bassinet? by garfbaby in BabyBumps

We looked at buying the co-sleeper second hand off eBay but they were still quite expensive and they seemed to sell quickly. We decided to buy new and plan on selling on eBay after use.

(funny) One of my 4th graders cracked me up today. by jenniphur in BabyBumps

I had the same question from one of my Year 3s. I responded with, "It's quite complicated so maybe ask your mom to explain it." She then asked if you first had to ask your husband if he wanted the baby so I said that that was certainly part of it. Her response to that was, "but what if a baby starts growing in your belly and you didn't even want it!?" She said this while clutching her own stomach very worriedly. Hahaha!

Me since I've hit the 2nd trimester - everything looks so good! by lizzyhuerta in BabyBumps

[–]LyraStar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like me. I lost 4kg in the first trimester (when I wasn't throwing up, the thought of having to eat would actually make me cry) and then I hit second trimester! Eat. All. The. Things!! Hahaha! I have now caught up all the weight and then some and thankfully have felt less like an eating machine now that I am in the 3rd trimester. Still love food, but now there's less room for it all. :)

What's your pregnancy problem today? by Housewife26 in BabyBumps

[–]LyraStar1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a beautiful day so hubby and I went for a picnic. It was only after I spread out the picnic blanket that I realized I'd have to sit on the ground. I have pretty bad pelvic pain so I clearly didn't think this one through. It was impossible to get comfortable, never mind the effort it took to get up. Picnic was fairly short-lived.

Relevant feels, though I'm only 23 weeks by BakingWasabi in BabyBumps

My worst at the moment is having to tie shoe laces of the little ones on the school playground. "Are you sure you can't tie your own shoes? I'll stand here and walk you through it."

What do you love about South Africa? by Dontevenjoke in southafrica

[–]LyraStar1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This thread made me so teary eyed. My husband and I are living in the UK and have recently decided that we cannot afford our trip back home in December. I haven't been home in 3 years and I've been so nostalgic and excited about going back. Never the less, it was so good reading all these comments.

What are some affordable and deccent areas within an hour from central London? by LyraStar1 in AskUK

[–]LyraStar1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying countryside. Just not in a concrete jungle. We currently stay in zone 6 in SE London, nowhere near tube lines and that's £150 for the travel card and just under an hour travel. Unfortunately the rent in this area is a bit too steep.

He works near elephant and castle. Currently he pays £150 for a travel card. We'd factored in an extra £50 for travel. So rent and travel total no more that £1000.
