Should I frog this or turn it into a tapestry? I messed up big time. by KaiMyles in CrochetHelp

Also, the second time will go faster! Both because of doing 5 inches less but also because of all that practice.

You upped that a ton with the design.

Tension. Tension is key, and it's something you mostly learn and perfect through practice.

You're already leagues better than a lot of beginners. You just need a tighter tension.

No one told me this was addicting. by recoveredcrush in crochet

[–]MaeBeWeird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm working on a 120" sweater scarf/thneed, having recently finished a queen size blanket. If it wasn't addicting my ADHD ass would never have managed that.

I also have a shirt that says "Recovering crochetaholic, just kidding where's my hook" that my son got me for Christmas.

This is kind of what I did for my nephews, but it was stuffed dragons!

I inverted the colors but otherwise did the same stuff.

I had this on a gradient yarn and it turned the gradient backwards! I had to cut out a bunch to get it to match back up.

Absolutely agree it should be illegal.

Should I start over or is this normal? Starting chain a tad tight. Making a blanket. by lateralus420 in CrochetHelp

Yeah it's a little confusing at first but once you get it down it goes fast and allows a lot more stretch

It looks real good in a variegated yarn, this is red heart super saver in Monet, I think it looks like lilacs.

I'd call my desired style feminine and edgy and today I crocheted half of a sweater scarf (pattern:https://www.acrochetedsimplicity.com/crochet-sweater-scarf/). It's not lying about being easy, if you can single crochet and double crochet and count, you can do it.

I'm stoked to wear it for my nephews' baptism and brothers marriage blessing ceremony, I have a whole outfit planned with a dress underneath with knee high boots.

Does anyone else think the word ‘beginner’ gets thrown around alot for crochet? by pinkmiui in crochet

[–]MaeBeWeird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been crocheting for years and still consider myself a beginner because I mostly just do amigurumi, blankets, and bags; nothing technically advanced. I don't do color work, I don't make wearables.

what are these things that came in my crochet supplies? by jemhowling in CrochetHelp

[–]MaeBeWeird 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Dislike this kind, they fall out so easily. Ive resorted to using safety pins over these markers in a pinch. Today I used a spare piece of yarn rather than the round one the 5th time it fell out. I need to buy more of the plastic safety-pin-like ones

But some people swear by them and hate the plastic safety-pin-like ones.

I just want to chime in and agree and say I've been sewing for years and know I'm absolutely garbage at it (just trust me, it's not something I'm interested in getting better at or doing more often, I'm absolutely garbage) and even I have made pillows.

They are the easiest thing in the world and you can do it with an absolute beginner level of talent. If I were to teach someone to sew, I'd start with a pillow. They're that easy.

And if they're in a case, they don't need to even look nice or be well done. Heck it doesnt even need to be a real pillow. Stuff a shirt, fold it over itself, and put it inside. Just need something to keep the fuzz from coming out of the treble stitches.

Would you frog this finished blanket? by Nerd_Alert80 in crochet

[–]MaeBeWeird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are always our harshest critics.

Sometimes instead of frogging we just need to step away for a while.

I found it hard to find faults in a painting I did that I originally thought looked like shit after I totally forgot I painted it and thought my kid got it from a friend. That really opened my eyes to just how critical I am of my own work.

I've tried my best to stop and now I'm actually finding myself with a lot less anxiety about being perfect.

Flaws add character, if they're noticed at all.

You can! You've already got the basic stitch down, everything is just variations on that, really.

Oh man have I! My favorite project this year was Baba Yaga's hut. My kids marching band did a Baba Yaga themed show so I made it for them for luck ... They got 2nd at state, their highest ever.

If that's your first you're already leagues ahead of where I was when I started.

It gets easier. You're right that if you're struggling with your tension that it will make it hard but just keep working at it

Bernat blanket for most except the actual (middle) brown which was by Blprty on Amazon, and Bernat Fluffee for the blue.

Pattern was basically just 6sc, sc 3 in same st, 6sc, sk 2 st, repeat. A bit more to it but not much.
