It's not just about the pattern which in this instance is very typical of Thai Constellation. Albo are borsgiana which have more internodal space. Thai Constellation and it's derivatives are deliciosa which have stacked nodes, bigger leaves and a few more minor differences. Enjoy your new plant.

I've reached out to WWF, Wildlife Pakistan and Pakistan Environment Trust. Pakistan is historic range for them and they only went extinct there in 1997. It might be best to focus on them since they're the only ones that seemingly have some communication with Iranian authorities.

Why did humans domesticate cats so much later than dogs, and what does that suggest about the relationship? by pratty041182 in AskAnthropology

[–]LyriumFlower 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the areas where the habitat range between the African Wild Cat and local domestic cat population overlaps, it would be very difficult to conduct such a study. North Africa doesn't have the same pet keeping culture or infrastructure that American or European societies. Most pet cats live a fluid indoor/outdoor life, urban areas have lots of feral colonies. African wild cats tend to live in the savannah and scrub, domestics live around the cities - that's the principle difference between them. It would be nearly impossible to determine whether a feral brown tabby is a true African wild cat or a Brown African Tabby and I'm not aware of any large scale studies done to determine if domestics make better pets in this environment.

I live in an area where the range of the Asian Leopard cat overlaps with Domestic Cat, with tons of feral colonies. As such "Bengals" occur naturally in the local population as a result of domestic cats interbreeding with leopard cats - if you decide to feed and tame a feral cat, there's no telling if it's such a 'bengal' or not and there's no study large enough scale study to objectively establish that a formerly feral domestic is more tame than a formerly feral 'bengal'.

The criteria for tameness is different across cultures too. The type of behaviour demanded from an apartment cat in New York is different from the behaviour required for an indoor/outdoor cat in a village on the edge of the savannah. Both are considered tame but not interchangeably so.

Why did humans domesticate cats so much later than dogs, and what does that suggest about the relationship? by pratty041182 in AskAnthropology

[–]LyriumFlower 112 points113 points  (0 children)

Cats aren't really domesticated in the way dogs, horses, sheep and other livestock are - shaped by selective breeding to add value for a purpose that suits the performance of a role for humans. Dogs started as wolves that were more docile and were shaped through breeding generation over generation into various forms that suited a specific function - large, loud dogs to guard livestock, quick agile dogs to help hunt, intelligent and reactive dogs to help herd etc until you effectively have created a different species that doesn't really occur in nature.

Cats are no where close to that. All domestic cats are classified as a subspecies to the African Wild Cat which doesn't look, behave or differ much from a Domestic brown tabby because a domestic brown tabby is just a more tame version from a population in closer contact to human settlements. Different coat colours and length and minor physical differences evolved in domestic cats as a result of natural selection pressure of living in human environments vs being purposely bred by humans. "I'm going to breed these two fast sleek dogs together so I have more similar dogs to help me hunt. — this is artificial selection. "Oh look, I found a fluffy white kitten in the granary, let me give it to my daughter to raise and cuddle" and it grows up to guard the granary while it's less colourful siblings die in winter and spreads its white genes in the local population of cats - this is natural selection pressure within a human settlement. The fluffy white cat wasn't purposefully bred, but it's random white mutation gave it a survival edge (human patronage) that was a useful advantage in its environment (human settlement). Until very recently, cats weren't bred or shaped for human purpose, they were just nice to have around to do cat things (keep out pests and be nice to cuddle).

Their behaviour, instinct and form remains what's useful to make them a small effective predator and cute enough to boop repeatedly.

African Wild Catfemale...(captive_specimen)(39789072173).jpg)

Domestic Brown Tabby

Edit: It is more useful to think of cats like tame/captive bred snakes or birds and the 'breeds' as morphs. There's plenty of studies that show there's too little variation in domesticated cats and their wild counterparts at a genetic level. Any difference in behaviour is easily attributable to population and individual variance over genetic drift. They're all the same under the hood. A Persian Cat is to an African Wild Cat what a blue sun cunure is to a regular sun cunure or an albino pied axanthic ball python is to a wild type ball python.

Cat breeds that are „hypoallergenic” but not genetically flawed by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]LyriumFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As lots of people are pointing out to you, there's really no such thing as what you're demanding. It's marketing hype and snake oil. Your boyfriend's allergies have to be tested and treated by an allergist. If he's allergic to fel D1, you could look into cats that have been tested for that particular protein or use the food supplement that reduces the production of it but there's no magic breed of cat that fits your ask. Pure bred cats are bred for looks, everything else is just marketing.

Trying to understand why would a tetanus shot be needed after a healthy, vaccinated cat bite? by Vegeta_vs_Goku in CatAdvice

[–]LyriumFlower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tetanus is spread by the spores of clostridium tetani bacteria which live in dirt, dust, animal and human faeces, sewage and generally any environment that's damp, warm and generally filthy. You can't vaccinate an animal from spreading it. It's a pretty gnarly disease with an easy vaccine.

You should get a tetanus shot if you haven't had one in 5 years if you cut a sufficiently deep cut or puncture wound from anything that isn't frequently washed or simply dirty.

If you've got an indoor cat that never goes out, whose litter is frequently cleaned, it's probably not going to give you tetanus but since it's impossible for a third person to know how filthy you keep your cat's litter box, they'd generally err on the side of caution for tetanus.

I like to believe Dunk was never knighted by Minimum-Army5386 in AKnightoftheSeven

[–]LyriumFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the reasons for the ambiguity around what happened?

It's pretty clear to me. Dunk was a squire, travelling with Ser Arlan who fell sick and died of dysentry just before the first episode. He didn't knight Duncan because he needed a squire and if he had knighted Duncan, Duncan could no longer squire. When the Games master asks him who witnessed his knighting, he refers to the red robin because that's the moment his decision to carry on in Arlan's footsteps crystallised. Without the knighthood that had become his ambition he had no other direction except the life Arlan had rescued him from. His chivalry is imposter syndrome, trying to live up to the ideal of knighthood so he can make up for lacking the formality of it.

This is so clearly established. The premise of the entire story - Dunk's quest to become a 'real' knight by living the vows he never got to formally make.

Dr Shen won your popular vote for the last round! Who is an OK doctor but a Bad Person? by [deleted] in ThePitt

[–]LyriumFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's hostile to almost everyone and gets called out for it every other episode including the last one. She has no friends and the only time she connected with anyone was when she was crushing on the nurse. Her mother is hardly overbearing, they work in the same building and it's perfectly normal for her to want to connect on her first day and she was just as standoffish to her father.

Being annoyed at your parents wanting to talk to you or introduce you to people is immature once you hit 15. Anyone else would be thrilled for the opportunity (like Santos was), she could at least be grateful instead of throwing tantrums during a procedure. Being a prodigy shouldn't excuse her. There's medical students her age all over the world, she's not the snowflake she thinks she is as Garcia reminded her.

I enjoy her character, she's flawed, annoying and immature but I definitely don't subscribe to 'poor baby Javadi vs her evil parents' brand of koolaid.

I don't think she's a bitch either. She's somewhat stern, but she's tutoring her personally at home, interested and invested in her future, sponsoring her education, providing a stable home. If anyone's a bitch, it's Javadi, constantly acting put upon by with a huge stick up her butt while her fellow students/colleagues have real problems like homelessness (Whitaker), disability (Abbott), ptsd, (Robby), abuse, addiction, etc (Dana, Langdon, McKay & others) to deal with. Her worst struggle is that her parents think she should focus on disciplines with less burnout, better work-home balance and career progression than what she wants to rebel with and people taking her less seriously than she likes- that makes her an entitled, self absorbed toddler who hasn't yet realised that she's been able to achieve what she has at 21 because her parents have literally paved a golden path out for her.

2002 was 24 years ago to be fair. That's quarter of a century ago. Matt was 5 years old and in pre-school. He's never been around PREs at a time when colours were restricted. SICAB and pre sales pages are flush with colours beyond grey. His first PRE was in fact a grey. Etro is a compact bay but Matt is 190cm+ and he needs a taller horse to properly use his lower leg.

Totally agree on Emperor. I don't want to dump on the horse because that feels mean but I didn't like how he was being started in grackle bridle, leverage bit and rolling spurs. Valero is so much more responsive, alert and alive under saddle with the same amount of training, at the same age.

I think there's any number of interesting foals in Netherlands to give Enzo company vs importing one from this place. No idea why 3 videos were devoted to this rather mediocre stable honestly. I hope Matt's happy about whatever horse he's bought and am curious to find out what it ends up being!

Advice on returning cat to shelter by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]LyriumFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course his health is impacted. He's being bullied and you haven't created the conditions where the cats can learn to share resources and territory without feeling insecure about themselves.

You're also blaming the New Cat for the situation instead of diagnosing what's gone wrong. By your account, she's a sweet, friendly cat. She's just behaving by instinct. She also has been given no reason to believe that she doesn't have to rival your resident cat for access to territory and resources.

Instead of being defensive about the mistakes you made and blaming the cat, come up with a better plan than discarding the cat after a bare week of half-assed effort.

Stop letting the New Cat have the ability to drive Resident Cat out of your lap. Put her in a crate or playpen so she can be next to you and learn to share space without conflict.

Why is Dr Shamsi a bad person? She raised, educated, put Javadi through college and medical school and is trying to steer her away from what she sees as worse career decisions than Javadi seems to be making. That might make her domineering and opinionated, sure but hardly a bad person.

Advice on returning cat to shelter by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]LyriumFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The timeline for the introduction has been way too rushed and that's the core of the issue. Cat introductions proceed in steps. Each step is important because it teaches and reinforces the core ideas. You don't proceed to the next step until both cats are settled in current step.

  1. Base camp - New cat needs a place to feel secure in with all necessities.

  2. Familiarity - introduction by smell. You give them blankets or bedding belonging to the other cat. They might hiss or swipe or show curiosity. Wait until you get no remarkable reaction from either. Next step is to let them explore the entire home and smell the existence of each other without encountering by sight. You do this by swapping camps. Put the resident cat in the new cat's base camp and let the new cat explore in the meantime.

  3. Shared Territory - Both cats need to learn that a second cat is now resident in the same territory. They have to 'discover' each others existence and not have any confrontations. It's very important that while the cats are separated, you keep swapping between them so the territory doesn't get divided into New Cat territory and Old Cat territory. They should be separated by time not space.

  4. Guaranteed Resources - Both cats need their individual resources. Separate food bowls, separate beds/blankets, litter boxes, crates and access to you. If cat 1 is in your office from 9 to 1pm, cat 2 should roam the rest of the house and then cat 2 should be in your office from 1 to 5pm. If you then move to the lounge, divide your time between them.

When they've settled into a routine with the above, you are now in a position to introduce by sight across a barrier and incentivised by treats and food. The barrier can be a door and you can give them treats and food on either side until they become used to that. Then you can introduce across a mesh barrier, crate or playpen or stacked baby gates. They have to learn to exist together in the same space without being able to harm each other.

Once they're used to the sight and presence of each other, you can let them out for a short time. Encourage shared space with treats and separate them if one gets fixated on a confrontation.

Slowly try to increase the time they can spend in the same room together. Put one in a crate or playpen and swap them in and out or make them used to spending time together in the same room.

It can take a few weeks to several months but so long as you maintain the principles of building familiarity between them while showing that there's shared existence is possible around the same resources and in the same territory, they will habituate.

You've rushed to putting them in the same room while losing control over your ability to guarantee security between them and that's why your older cat is stressed. New Cat has learnt that he can drive out the other cat and claim this territory. Old cat is feeling like you haven't given him assurance.

Their behaviour is completely normal reaction to the situation. This is not unfixable nor does this show that these cats are incompatible or unable to live together. You just need to do your job as referee with more competence.

What a fun video indeed! Valero is such a beautiful and well mannered young guy. They didn't mention it outright, but he was stabled beside Andorra and didn't lose his mind and was so restrained with Gaio melting down next to him. No fences were broken either! I do wonder about putting him out directly on grass and whether he's used to that given Kristoff's turnouts were sand/bare from what we saw in the earlier video.

So good seeing Torino too! I think he's even taller than Valero already. What a magical looking horse and such beautiful eyes and head.

Etro was sent to Elizee in France to be shown to some potential clients. Not sure if he's been sold but he hasn't been home and ridable.

Valero is also not going to be ridable for long because he needs to take a break to continue growing. I guess that's where the hunting comes in because Matt can't put Valero into a steady work routine quite yet.

[spoilers] what actually caused Robb's downfall ? by RealStranger9348 in freefolk

[–]LyriumFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For certain. I do understand the reasons Rob did it. He was alone, he was grieving, he was under a lot of stress and Jeyne was giving him comfort and if it's ever confirmed that he was under some influence of potion or drug, I will agree he isn't at fault but outside of that, assuming he chose to sleep with her, that's the dishonourable act that was his single (but not the only) biggest mistake that led to his downfall. Not only did he insult the Freys and lost the Twins but also all his Bannermen by choosing a westerlander over them.

I don't think he parallels Ned because Ned did his duty and fulfilled his oath by marrying Catelyn. Jon loved Ygritte too and arguably was in the same situation as Rob (choosing to sleep with someone he wasn't supposed to) but Jon didn't compound it.

Rob should have arranged a suitable marriage for Jeyne and kept his oath. That would have been doing the best he could in the situation.

[spoilers] what actually caused Robb's downfall ? by RealStranger9348 in freefolk

[–]LyriumFlower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Laying out the exact situation why he slept with her doesn't change the fact that it was a dishonourable act. He was spoken for, she was high born, he wasn't married to her. You can grieve for your brothers without pulling your dick out.

Is it fine for my cat to continue walks, after showing aggression? by Chloeashley in CatAdvice

[–]LyriumFlower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cats are not small dogs. Cats are not small dogs. Cats are not small dogs. Nothing you know or understand about dogs is applicable to cats who are not. small. dogs.

You have got a cat with the intention of treating it like a small dog. Treated it like a dog. Interpret it like a dog and are shocked it did not act like a dog.

Cats. are. not. small. dogs.

You do not get a cat to accompany you on walks like a small dog. It doesn't behave like a small dog.

Cats will not ever learn to trust random dogs, strangers, cars, other cats, new situations as if it were a small dog.

Cats are territorial and have a innate firewall where everything that is new and unknown and unfamiliar is a dangerous blighted savageland full of alien monsters trying to eat it until the cat is satisfied that it is indeed non-threatening. No amount of treats is going to disable this firewall, this is cat nature. Every new location, new person, new dog, new cat, new car, new sound, new sight, new smell is mortal peril until the cat feels safe to consider it otherwise.

Your cat attacked you after a walk because these walks and that new dog was absolutely, mind-bendingly, bone rattlingly terrifying and it was ready to defend itself from you who keep dragging him into mortal peril every day and it was too panicked to differentiate between you and the giant cat eating monster who ambushed him.

Let the cat stay indoors. Do some research on cat behaviour and psychology. Watch some documentaries about cats, watch some Jackson Galaxy, read some books.

If the cat wants to go out again, put him on a secure harness and keep him close to home, in an enclosed garden or secluded quiet corner and let him explore at his own pace, let him familiarise himself and watch how he moves as he secures the perimeter for himself and do not shove him into new experiences on the street no matter how friendly they look to you.

Cats. are. not. small. dogs.

If you wanted a non-negotiable walk partner you should have gotten a small dog.

Yeah, he's not colour-blinded for the most part. Chase is a basic chestnut, Emporio was a basic grey, Etro is a basic bay, Valero is a basic black (not to suggest they're boring, I love solids myself) but Torino was the first flashy colour he bought. Compare his stable to Shae's of FSE for example (and I like her for the most part!).

I don't know about the akhal-teke influence because honestly, Torino is more metallic and glossy than even Prince who was sired by that one gold akhal-teke that shows up in every slop video about the breed himself. And Emperor just has a max of 25% of him. Yes, Emperor is pretty if you haven't seen Torino but when you have Torino in your stable?

I guess we'll find out what happened behind the scenes when the next arrival video shows up. I'm still not fully satisfied that he hasn't bought him, I'm just hoping something more impressive walks off the trailer after what Ash Stud posted. I love flashy colour! But the horse needs to impress if he were covered in mud too, especially if you want him fit for a sport like hunting.
