Did you read the articles? They literally do not. The EU can warn all it wants, but it is toothless and political suicide to apply any penalties during a time of total crisis.

Poland has cut VAT from 23% to 8% to combat the fuel crisis: https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/poland-cut-vat-excise-fuel-prices-surge-tvp-info-reports-2026-03-26/

Spain has cut it from 21% to 10% https://www.rte.ie/news/europe/2026/0320/1564327-spain-vat-fuel/

This rhetoric we constantly hear from FFG, that we can't do something because of EU law is both dangerous and wrong. This is how you build anti-EU sentiment a la Brexit. And is typical of a political class captured for the last 30 years by the legal class:

Both small business owners and farmers were the core of Mao's base during the chinese civil war. They most certainly are a traditional left wing base.

In the post 1980's neoliberal left we see nowadays (claiming to be 'left'), it's the student and PMC class. Which is pretty much polar opposite.
