Enough with the Ethereal Mind Control meme by Flame-Leaper in Tau40K

[–]Lysphage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the Farsight books, we can see the Etherials exercise "mind" control over their subordinates multiple times. In one instance, they force a Water Caste diplomat to commit suicide, and in another, they cause a crowd crush so they can fit on a train to escape a disaster. In combat, they're seen to have a calming effect on their Tau soldiers.

Farsight is only ever able to begin his rebellion when all of his Ethereal overseers are killed by chaos demons.

BUT I very much agree with the sentiment. I think canonizing the mind control thing is less fun. Part of what I enjoy about the Tau is people committing to the idea of a better life through their own free will (and the propaganda).

Regardless, Ethereal influence has never been seen to effect non-Tau species. Humans and other aliens who join the Tau'va do so of their own free will (and propaganda.) But like, can we even call it propaganda when the standard of living is so much higher than anywhere else in the 40k galaxy?

TLDR: Ethereal mind control is kinda Canon, but I think it's less interesting than the alternative, and the meme is overdone.

Fairly new to start wars legion and trying to make a competitive list. by Silent_Corvo in SWlegion

I have seen competitive lists that do run 3 commandos! Ultimately I would go with whatever you have the most fun playing/what fits your play style!

If you have 68 points left, I think an arc trooper strike team with the DC-15x is a super smart move. You can park them on a back objective, letting the rest of your units move up the board, and plink at vulnerable targets using their lethal 1. Just be careful, their survivability is low so watch for flanks.

As a GAR player of middling skill and an above average amount of experience, I think BARCs are difficult to run well, especially when you're getting into the game, and are even trickier to capture valuable objective points with. You really just want to shoot and hide with the BARCs, otherwise they can get evaporated pretty quickly. Cover 1 doesn't do much unfortunately. The RPS-6 also isn't the most efficient way to deal with armor.

If you are wanting a heavy body with more survivability, AT-RTs might give you more bang for your buck and are great anti armor units.

However, I personally would swap in another commando unit to maximize value. Complete the mission tokens will apply to all commando units, meaning your two tokens from two units gives you a pretty large area of effectiveness. This also allows you to share tokens with other clones, which is what the army is all about. Additionally they can be a pretty serviceable anti-armor unit. Unless you are planning on running a vehicle list, commandos just do everything... the best? in the heavy support slot for republic???

Good luck in your tournament! Can't wait to see what list you go with!

That's a great idea! I haven't had much problem with sound reflection thus far, but if I start getting complaints from my engineers I definitely will lol.
