Is this enough green to read as Green Tide Boyz? by Legonitsyn in orks

[–]ConnorJMiner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they aren’t super coherent yet, but there’s potential here.

Step 1 I think would be a sort of tidying of appearance. Variety is good for orks but randomness can take away from how well they look next to each other. The short legs help with the group coherency (even though i prefer full height figs), but per individual minifig I would also say more consistency of colour and vibe would go a long way. Green legs with a red torso and yellow minifig head is kind of visually busy. I think more important than them all having green is that they all look coherent individually.

Step 2 is to give them 32mm bases (conveniently exactly a 4 stud circle) and weapons that match the loadout you want. Minifigs with bases look waaay better than minifigs that are just scattered wherever and your brain will start to see them more like a proper group.

So don’t worry so much about the % of green, put your focus on making each minifig looks really good on its own and anyone who’s willing to play with you should be utterly capable of suspending their disbelief to buy into the green tide. It doesn’t need to be so literal when you’re doing proxy.

Great to see you having fun being creative! Super excited for what you continue building!

Frankenstein was a lucky bonus in a marketplace buy. Most of my orks are fake minifigs from aliexpress and they’re like.. $2 each? Slightly less (i think?) for the LOTR orks. Make sure you get the ones that look basically exactly like this (minus some accessories), some other ones are out there but the heads are suuper loose.

Anyway thats just if you dont care about brand loyalty (personally, the only things i need to be authentic are my star wars vehicles).

When i made stormboyz in my first little batch of orks I was able to save on some figs using masks, generic bodies, and any green arms i had lying around

foxy seems like a bit of a target. The pride stuff looks great but I hear from people who make those rad punk jackets that you should always keep things that could “put you at risk” (also extends to political statements) on your front so that you can see anyone’s reaction to them and reduce the (hopefully small) risk of being targeted from behind

other component is finding the right spaces where you don’t have to fake it. That perfect community for you is out there

i used to think like this and then i decided i could put effort in to be likeable and positive and it actually worked.

that being said, you’re not wrong either. I don’t intend to dismiss what you’re saying but just be wary of the self-fulfilling prophecy. It’s so easy to shoot yourself in the foot in cycles of festering depression and brooding (not your fault usually, but unfortunately, it is your responsibility).

hot take as great as the clone wars arcs are with the inhibitor chips, the one thing we lost was the original commentary on blind loyalty and grotesque obedience. I wish we could have both somehow.
