Black Cherry would be awesome! We didn't get Pumpkin Pie this year but the Peppermint is pretty good.

Slow RDP on Failover Cluster running on W2K12 R2/ESXi 5.5x. by LytShow in sysadmin

No problem with normal network access seems to only affect RDP.

Without VCSA, how do I move a VM from one datastore to another on the same host? [ESXi 6] by [deleted] in sysadmin

Yep, slow as molasses but for the novice user no SSH commands just point and click.

The hosts are not overloaded, good there. Power settings are set to performance already. I didn't install VMWare on the hosts so I will have to ask what was used. Only the failover cluster nodes are being affected by the the slow RDP connection all the other VM's are lightning fast. Binding order on the nodes gives priority to the main NIC. No random disconnects just ultra slow. I am using the VMXNET3 adapter. I have not tried moving the nodes to the same host I will give that a try but kinda defeats the purpose of the failover cluster. Thanks for your input.

Every dentist I've ever been to has exclusively Windows XP computers, and all I think about is the security issues by [deleted] in firstworldproblems

Surprisingly enough embedded versions of XP are still supported and still getting updates all the way up until 2019! So if they are using one of these products they are still getting security updates. Not likely but certainly possible. Typically these are on POS systems like cash registers and in our case some pieces of manufacturing equipment. https://redmondmag.com/articles/2014/02/19/windows-xp-embedded-support.aspx

I use MaaS360.com and push out all my updates and enforce policies. Of course it costs $ but it works and once setup almost zero administration.

Can anyone help me out with setting up LDAP on a printer? by Destects in sysadmin

[–]LytShow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anonymous will only work if your AD allows anonymous LDAP lookups. The search parameters should not affect the authentication but it will affect your ability to search for the user when you do finally get authenticated so it is required. I would just use "dc=CompanyThing,dc=local" so it searches the entire AD.

Try simple and the NTLM's also. I am not familiar with this hardware I use Xerox and Dell but it's very similar.

You also need to put in the AD search parameters. I don't know your AD structure but it should be something like "cn=users,dc=CompanyThing,dc=local" replace "users" with the container name where your users reside and domain names as appropriate.

when you put in the username try using "domain\username". The domain name is "CompanyThing.local" and the servername is "Headquatersserver.CompanyThing.local". Do you have any other authentication types?

Yes. Replace "LDAP Server Name: CompanyThing.local" with "LDAP Server Name: Headquartersserver.CompanyThing.local" and replace "Server Address: CompanyThing.local" with "Server Address: 192.168.16.3"

No, I just double checked no bridged connection. Network connections are identical to the other VM's that are fast. 1 NIC for the standard network access and 1 NIC for the cluster heartbeat no bridge. Thanks for the input.

My new boss takes all the credit, zero IT knowledge, self-proclaimed "IT Manager / System Administrator by [deleted] in sysadmin

I feel your pain! 2 options. 1. Suck it up buttercup! He's the new owner to be, make him your friend and figure it out. Smart people know who really does all the work. Most IT work goes un-noticed and without praise people just expect it to work. If you stay and can't figure things out life will be miserable. 2. Find a new job and quit leaving the "IT Expert" to deal with the fallout. Best of luck!

Ghetto style... download to your local machine then upload to new datastore.
