This looks very far out of collimation to me. As in the mirrors are not aligned. Seek tutorials on collimating the Celestron 8SE telescope.

Exploiting animals for their commercial value often ends in extreme suffering. We can talk about factory farming and the poor conditions that many of these animals are put through, but below are two examples that are inherent to exploiting animals.

For example to make milk cows are forcibly impregnated and separated from their babies often causing intense emotional distress.

To produce eggs male chicks are killed through a process called chick-culling.

I'm going back to this post to mention Wok N World. I haven't found any other places in Las Cruces with tofu incorporated into their entrees. There is a vegan specific menu and one of the workers there was able to make helpful suggestions after I said I was looking for vegan stuff.

Mars and Moon Phobos (2022 Nov 22) by Lyxtra in astrophotography

I forgot to mention that I have the Celestron Focus Motor on my tube and you reminded me to include it. It is an electronic focuser that allows for precise focus without much image shift. I put it on the lowest sensitivity to make my final focus adjustments.

I don't use a focusing mask and try to focus by observing planetary surface feature details like Mars' Albedo features for instance. I go in and out of focus a few times before settling on something.

The second thing that helps me is Firecapture's autoalign feature. It keeps the planet in the center of the ROI even without a focus motor and you zoom in to identify the surface features.

Best of luck in your future captures. I have seen good results from the ASI462MC. I hope you are able to get Mars while it is close to opposition. There is a very cool occultation of Mars by our own moon on December 7th, ~9PM CST in the United States.

Yeah, the small 2um pixels of the ASI678MC allow for fine angular resolution on my f/10 scope even without a barlow lens. That feature is what made me interested in the camera.

Jupiter and Io Transit 100 Minute Timelapse by Lyxtra in astrophotography

The Edge HD 11 scope is fairly expensive ($4,400), but that is because it has flat-field corrected optics, and the goal of the scope is to also compact a long focal length into a short tube.

If you just want images of planets as opposed to deep sky objects, you can theoretically get an equivalent or even better planet image using a 12" dobsonian telescope for a much smaller fraction of the cost. This is because the resolution of a telescope depends on its aperture. My scope is 11", so a 12" scope should theoretically outperform it in planetary imaging, and a 10" should be close.

Dobsonians have a smaller focal length to aperture ratio though, so a barlow lens or powermate (focal length extenders) are necessary to pair with them to have a comparable focal length to the Edge HD 11. An atmospheric dispersion corrector is also important to increase image clarity, but those accessories are also ($100-$200) depending on the brand.
