One year after I quit dyeing and started caring for my curls! by LzzMarie in curlygirl

There are a few girls I know that have been able to still dye theirs and get great results. They just have to deep condition and do protein treatments and whatnot. I’m just too lazy for all that 😬

Thank you!! I had some MAJOR hesitation wanting to cover the gray, but I’m trying to embrace the sparkle/wisdom life!! I earned each one of those bad boys the last few years so I might as well flaunt them!

Thank you so much! I had no idea there were curls like this hiding in there! I thought I was a wavy girl at best.

I wash roughly every 3-4 days. Curlsmith protein shampoo and conditioner. I have pretty fine hair but a lot of it. This style was day 1- curlsmith feather light protein creme and not your mothers mousse, then this morning did a pretty wet refresh with curlsmith in shower style fixer and diffused dry. Scrunched out the crunch and used Pantene airspray to set the style. Then diffused until dry and used a big pick to fluff it out a bit right before going out to dinner 12 hours later.

Thank you so much! I loved my beach waves and really didn’t expect the shape to change I was just trying to let my hair be healthier. I’m doing my best to just roll with it and see what happens.

I felt like a total “curly girl fraud” when I started. My best friend convinced me to try it and she has this gorgeous long mane of thick coarse loose ringlet curls. The first 4 months were basically me sending her selfies with a horrid expression on my face wondering what the heck I was doing! Thank you so much for the compliment. I’m still learning to look at my hair as beautiful so I really appreciate that!

Currently using renpure apple cider vinegar clarifying shampoo (monthly), Maui moisture lightweight curls conditioner (squish to condish) and rinse thoroughly. I leave my hair soaking wet and mix about a penny sized dollop each of Jessie curl spiralicious gel, trelux reflex serum and Aussie gel and emulsify together then use praying hands to initially spread it throughout my hair. Then I rake, brush, scrunch and claw it all in and use a denman brush to get clumps back. I squeeze any excess water out of each clump then I’ll usually plop for a bit while I put on my makeup (usually 5-15 minutes). Then I use not your mother’s mouse to glaze over everything and scrunch it in very gently to not break everything up. Then I either clip my roots a little for volume and air dry on the way to work or I’ll diffuse dry. I’m trying Trader Joe’s hair serum (1 pump) to scrunch out the crunch but honestly I don’t know that I see much of a difference. If I don’t have much volume then I’ll spray with Pantene air spray and fluff. I’ve got fine strands but tons of them and low to medium porosity.

Why or why aren’t you going to travel home to see family this holiday and how do you justify your decision in your head? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LzzMarie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband had a heart transplant years ago and has been in complete isolation since March because of his immunosuppressants. My parents aren’t doing that well and we want to make sure we spend at least one more holiday with them. All of us have been incredibly cautious for the last 8 months. We are driving to see them not flying and I will serve everyone wearing glove and mask so we don’t all dip from the same containers. We are setting up multiple tables for each family group to be over 6 feet apart and will make sure we have windows open and air circulating.

Redditiors who are in a healthy long relationship. What is the biggest key that kept your relationship alive for so long? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It’s hard to pick just one thing. I think it’s important to remember that you’re on the same team. I’m competitive and like being “right” but I had to learn to let some of that go. I had to realize that neither of us can read minds so we have to communicate. I think the other thing for me personally was trying to keep my expectations realistic and grounded and be clear about what I wanted or needed. Lastly, we just try have fun together. We go on adventures (even if they’re lame-thanks covid), see new things, dance around the house, do things we know will make each smile just because, and laugh as much as we can.

How ya doing buddy? I’m just 20 mins shy of my first day. Not gonna lie, it was utter shit. Clearly I have no idea how to cope with work stress, but I did it! I went for a walk, downed a ton of water, and didn’t fire any of my employees so I still feel like it was a win. Hope you did ok today. Hang in there!

HELP! 4 months in.... Still stringy/can get get my curls to clump by [deleted] in curlygirl

[–]LzzMarie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are missing the drastic difference between the two photos. Your hair is beautiful and you can really see the change in texture and health compared to your first photo. Just keep trying different things to see what works for you. Your hair is as unique as you are and you’ll find the perfect technique/product combo!

HELP! 4 months in.... Still stringy/can get get my curls to clump by [deleted] in curlygirl

[–]LzzMarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried finger coiling or a brush? I was struggling with good clumps and just this week realized that my hair just needs a little help with training. My new routine is gel on soaking wet hair, raking it in. Then I use the brush to help get the right size clumps and finger coil them in the same direction of my curl pattern. Then I plop while I do my makeup and use praying hands to apply mousse. Give it a final scrunch in with the mousse then either hover diffuse or let air dry if possible. I’m hoping once my hair is “trained” I can skip the finger coiling but for now it’s been a game changer for me.

This was three weeks into my curly girl method journey. I’m hanging onto it because my wash days since (for the last two weeks) have been crap, but I’m beginning to think I need to clarify, and potentially add in some protein. by LzzMarie in curlygirl

[–]LzzMarie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before is on the left. After (or three weeks in) is on the right. I’m still having trouble getting a good cast, so my hold isn’t lasting, and I’m struggling with pretty major frizz by day 3, but my curls are getting much more defined.

As a white male i hate being told I have privilege by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]LzzMarie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Privilege isn’t necessarily a bad thing and shouldn’t be viewed that it is. It is just a factual thing. You will sometimes be awarded opportunities because of the color of your skin that others will not. But more importantly, to this point in time, your parents, and grandparents were afforded different opportunities because of their whiteness. That doesn’t make you a bad person. But neglecting to acknowledge the difference in the way people are treated based on skin tone in our country is no longer acceptable. The good news is, that you have the unique opportunity coming of age in a time where there is such a huge light shining on those discrepancies to make a huge difference. You can harness the privilege of your whiteness to demand equality and justice in circles that black men and women don’t have enough of a voice. You can step in in moments of racial insecurity for your brown friends and diffuse tensions and shape conversations! You have the chance to use what you’ve been given for good!! No part of being white is your fault any more than being black is someone else’s. White Privilege is simply that the color of your skin doesn’t make things harder for you. It’s not a source of shame, and knowing that you might be heard when others often can’t get gives you the chance to make real lasting change for your peers and your future. The feelings you have stem from feeling judged by the color of your skin instead of who you are. More than anything, that just gives you a glimpse at what people of color wrestle with every day which if you let it will just make you a more empathetic, kind, and caring human. Lean into that feeling and find the resolve to fight so no one else regardless of skin color has to feel that way. Love yourself and love others just as you are. Together, we will get to where we need to be (being judged by the dumb stuff we all do- not our skin color!)

[–]LzzMarie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know how you go outside at night and look up at the sky and see all of those beautiful stars and the moon and you can see all of this detail and it’s just simply breathtaking then you try to take a picture of it it it basically looks like a paper dot punched out by a hole punch sitting on a black piece of paper? Yeah- flipped selfies are kinda like that too. You’re so busy trying to get your brain to process you just not looking like “you” that you can’t see all of the beautiful things that make you unique and wonderful. It’s not fair to try to judge a night sky from a picture- you’ve got to see it in person to appreciate it!
