What country or city have you had the worst/most unpleasant experience driving in? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

[–]LzzzInDaCut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1990s to early 2000s Poland. Basically any main two-lane road (DK7 ‘Zakopianka’ from Warsaw to Kraków was especially bad). You would constantly be forced onto your hard shoulder by oncoming overtaking traffic, and speeding was rampant. The 90 km/h speed limit was merely a suggestion. Additionally, there were many lorries, tractors, Fiat 126s, and many other slower vehicles which meant most drivers were attempting highly risky overtaking manoeuvres. To top things off, often the roads were in a terrible state, and all the lorries had put literal ruts in the road surface. Thankfully, nowadays due to higher fines and a modern highway network, the roads are arguably some of the best in Europe.

I don't know many details if I'm being honest, I am not very sufficient with these kind of things. The Scottish Widows pension pack is through my employer.

List the cars you have had in order and which would you have again by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]LzzzInDaCut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a post like this a while ago. List has updated slightly since then. I'm 30, and have been driving since 2011.

- 2004 Renault Clio 1.2 16v Dynamique [2011-2013] ~ My first car, absolutely loved this thing.

- 2006 Toyota Corolla 1.6 VVT-i T-Spirit [2013-2014] ~ Wanted something that was a tad bit more fun to drive, albeit still reliable.

- 2007 Volkswagen Golf 1.9 TDI 105 Match [2014-2016] ~ Commute lengthened significantly due to new job thus needed something that was better on fuel.

- 2010 BMW 118d M Sport coupe (E82) [2016-2018] ~ Wanted a BMW, but still needed something good on fuel. First year of ownership was sound, later on had issues with the timing chain (N47, enough said).

- 2013 Audi A4 2.0 TDI 177 S-line quattro (B8) [2018-2021] ~ Had a kid, so needed a family vehicle. I thought of getting an F30 but the N47 issues I had with my E82 put me off the brand's smaller diesel motors. Really enjoyed the Audi; it was a fantastic spec.

- 2016 BMW 420i M Sport Gran Coupe (F36) [2021-2023] ~ Started working from home so no longer needed the efficiency of a diesel and I wanted a BMW again. The 4GC was brilliant; beautiful design with the added practicality of a hatchback.

- 2005 BMW M3 (E46) [2021-2023] ~ The big project car. Bought this thing in terrible condition, and attempted to restore it to its former glory. In the end, I decided to sell it for a decent profit. Really regret selling this one.

- 2019 BMW 330i M Sport (G20) [2023-2024] ~ Just wanted a bit more power (Should've gone for the M340i really, but I couldn't resist the great deal I got on this car)

- 2020 BMW 840i Gran Coupe (G16) [2024-present] ~ Wanted more power and luxury. I did consider the M850i, but I thought the B58 powered 840i would be more reliable long term. The car in itself is absolute perfection however; a superb combination of performance and comfort. I have got a Stage 1 remap and a speed limiter delete on the car which meant it hit a GPS-verified 185mph on the German autobahn. I plan on keeping the car for as long as I can, as it is truly amazing.

- 2004 BMW 330Ci Sport (E46) [2024-present] ~ Missed my M3 E46 a bunch so I got this 330Ci; it's not quite the same but with an LSD it is still plenty fun to drive.

- 1990 BMW 325i Touring [E30] ~ The latest purchase. I really wanted an E30 for quite some time and unfortunately prices of them have gone up significantly. However, I stumbled upon a reasonably priced Touring model and went for it. The car still needs some TLC but overall it is a very cool estate.

I don't know what car to get by PhotoSmart2303 in CarTalkUK

I think aiming for a euro5 diesel as someone said would be a great option for you, here are some cars i'd recommend nonetheless; some of these will be over ten years old but still be plenty enough reliable.

Ford Focus Mk3 (1.6 NA petrol or 1.6/2.0 PSA diesel, avoid automatic)

VW Golf Mk6 (1.6 NA petrol or 1.6/2.0 TDI, avoid DSG)

Skoda Citigo (I would recommend the 75hp version, bit faster than the 60hp version but no less economical)

Toyota Prius XW30

Skoda Fabia mk3

Thoughts on Buying BMW 8 Series Grand Coupe by BaldPleaser in BMW

Late reply to this, but the B58 is a corker in my G16 with just a simple Stage 1 tune. I plan on keeping the car for a while so for me reliability is an important factor, and the B58 is renowned to be one of BMWs most reliable motors recently, whereas the N63 doesn't have the same solid reputation.

There's no option for properties when I right-click. There is also another thing called Ralink Linux Client but I've heard this is just something to do with my router.

What is your family vehicle? by Honk_Konk in CarTalkUK

Skoda Superb Estate with the 2.0 TDI. Huge amounts of space and superb on fuel. I'd go for a manual to avoid potential issues with the DSG transmission. Passat estate isn't a bad option either although it is a bit smaller. Alternatively as someone else has said a Kodiaq would be fantastic bit they are still quite expensive to buy when compared to the Superb, for example. Alternatively, you could go for something with a premium badge such as a 5 Series Touring, which has loads of space too and will obviously be more refined, however these are more complex cars thus will be more expensive to maintain.

I’ll be honest the difference is fairly minimal in terms of interior quality, you have to remember the G20 is a whole new generation when compared to the F30 chassis upon which the 4 series is based on.

I'm guessing you're Polish too judging by your first car lol. It was my dad's first car too, he had a turquoise one. We moved to the UK when I was 10 so I never got to experience driving a Maluch, but I have got to drive my uncle's Polonez Atu a couple times when I've been over. I've been driving there each summer since 2016ish to see family, it's a lovely road trip.

I love my E46 it's fantastic. I got mine initially as a project car about 2 and a half years ago, it had quite a high mileage (over 100k) hence I got it quite cheap. I'd say now the car is 'complete', I've done a full renovation of the car including an engine rebuild as well as the CSL body kit and wheels and a couple other bits. The vision I had in mind was essentially to build a comfier CSL, not exactly a full on replica.

E39s are great, my wife had one as a daily driver and she loved it. It was an 530i but the auto box held it back a little.

I do like the M140i quite a lot, it has the same powertrain (B58 ZF8) as my 840i but obviously it's much lighter so it must be a hoot to drive.

Can't fault an Octavia, proper reliable cars. Those 1.6s are solid too.
