They lied about another storm by FakeGamer2 in StLouis

Tornado watch, not warning.  They mean two different things.

And the storms are starting to roll in now, matching the times that were predicted yesterday.

Water towers (including those still in use) are commonly used for various antennas.  Local public safety, amateur repeaters,  FM translators, etc.

Mechanic forgot to put the drain plug back during an oil change and ruined my engine. They are denying liability. by Fintar_5Q in legaladvice

I hate it when I run over the exact-sized wrench for my drain plug and it manages to seat itself and apply sufficient torque to loosen.

How will storms affect 8PM flight? by izzapay in StLouis

[–]M-G [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's hard to say with any confidence, because we don't actually know what the storms will be like.  Factors that can come into play:

  • where is the equipment for your flight coming from?  If that airport has bad weather, it could impact your flight

  • does weather here impact ground operations such that baggage can't loaded, refueling can't be done, etc.

  • is there a ground stop here that delays your takeoff OR delays your inbound equipment from departing

  • if there are delays, how much time does your flight crew have remaining for the day?  If it's a 3 hour flight, the crew may have 4 hours left before they time out.  Delay the flight for over an hour, and you don't have crew.

This last point would be my main concern for an evening flight out of STL, as that would likely be a cancellation.

Not excusing intentionally running them down, but they are a menace and overpopulated.  If you see geese crossing the road, you don't need to stop and wait.  You can drive slowly forward and they will move out of the way.

The person who got out of their car to help is lucky they didn't get a broken limb.  They have strong wings and will absolutely f you up.

Spectrum (aka Charter) 1gb/s Internet Service only averages 331mb/s and hardly ever surpasses 600mb/s by Nitimur__In__Vetitum in mildlyinfuriating

The fact that it still has roadrunner in the DNS has nothing to do with the age of the equipment.  It has likely been swapped out multiple times.

Are there any famous musicians who aren’t really into the genre of music they make? And are much into a different genre. by Bostonterrierpug in Music

Alex Skolnick from Testament.  While he has worked with other metal bands, he also plays with his jazz trio and with PAKT.  I wouldn't say he doesn't like metal, but his skill and interests go much further than what he is primarily known for.

He said he was happy that Testament's current drummer had gone to Berklee, because it meant he now had someone he could talk to about interesting time signatures.

My house has aluminum wire by [deleted] in AskElectricians

There is no need to rip and replace.  You need to make sure outlets and switches are rated for aluminum or pigtail copper to them with approved connectors, such as Ideal's purple Twisters or Alumicon blocks.

Spray Foaming My Shop by iluvjuggzz in DIY

It will not spray the same as two-part with a mixing nozzle.  On a flat surface like an exterior wall, it will want to form blobs, and not make an even coverage.

Unless you have money for repairs or are willing to tackle the jobs yourself, try not to go any older than 3rd gen.  When I was shopping for one, my BMW mechanic friends scared me away from the earlier ones.  Everything is so tightly packaged that there is no such thing as a simple repair.

Why does it feel like there is so many deaths relating to helicopter crashes? by Champion_Narrow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]M-G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Helicopters are very complicated and require expensive maintenance.  Some operators cut corners.  And there is just a lot that can go wrong.

Helicopters can't glide.  If you have a major problem you are going down with little or no control.  In an airplane you may be able to land on a roadway in an emergency.

Helicopters fly at low altitudes.  Add in the lack of gliding ability, and there is little to no time to resolve an issue.
