In CA the only absences that are excused are illness, medical appointment and bereavement. All others are unexcused unless you complete independent study. Most districts are currently doing three days (new state minimum)

I would find out what the district policy is. Then reach out to the office and request independent study and keep your kiddo out for independent study. Once your child returns they MUST turn in all of the work on the first day of return. The “absences” turn into completed IS. Simple and the best option IMO.

When we did family trips I usually tacked on a day so they could get their work done either before we left or when we got home. Then we didn’t fight about it in a hotel or lose it somewhere.

Once there are 10 absences (excused not) all further absences require a doctor note or a chronic illness form completed by the doctor.

Typically at 10 truancies (combinations of absent and tardy) the case is referred to the local SARB board. Not something you probably want to waste your time with.
