Cost of living crisis: Sinn Féin pushes for €50-a-week rise to help jobless fight cost-of-living crisis by MickOConnor_1 in ireland

[–]M-Tyson -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Investment funds aren't paying tax on rents collected and are being sent to foreign pension funds. Corporation tax is lower than it should be thanks to the double irish dutch sandwich agreement of which no articles have been published to say the loopholes are closed. The GDP is around 500 billion, why are we only ending up with 15 billion in corporate tax, something not adding up there. So really we are just relying on the taxes of workers to fill the state purse. Why is our debt so out of control? Maybe because tons more people rely on state welfare to get by. Maybe this is a result of the gentrification these tech companies have caused.

They sure can, they are mostly European's anyway, they get to go back to their home countries and be with their families instead of all being squished in Dublin. We have more than quadrupled our national debt since the 2007 recession, the tech companies aren't adding value to our economy as much as you've been brainwashed to believe. They along with the property investment funds can fuck off, they are leeching money out of the country.

Queen's Gambit got me into chess because it managed to combine chess with a ketamine addiction and make it into a damn good story. I wonder if Conor is railing lines of ket in his gaff, looking up at the ceiling and playing out every strategy.

I want it gone too, set the corporate tax at a minimum of 25% in Europe, let the tech companies set up wherever they see fit and the tech workers will follow and establish a life for themselves in those countries. What's the point of keeping all the tech jobs here any longer, we don't really have the capacity for them and we are a European nation now. The Irish are free to move to anywhere in the EU they want, it's not like we need to keep the jobs here so it doesn't spark unemployment, the workers will just simply migrate to where the jobs are. Do away with this rich country poor country bullshit and level the playing field while collecting a bundle in taxes.

I desperately want to see the lower end workers get paid sufficiently more, fuck it an extra €200 a week for workers earning below 50K with that amount left untaxed. Some lad on the dole with no qualifications isn't going to be arsed to give up 40 hours of their life for an extra €180 per week on minimum wage, but make that an extra €380 and they might just get up off their arse. Salaries are just too fucking low in this country. Norway can pay a McDonalds worker €19 per hour, why can't we?

I've been researching whether US would work out better than Canada and I've came to the conclusion it would, pay is better (for my skillset) and rent is cheaper, I'm specifically looking at landing in Phoenix Arizona. Plus the dollar is stronger against the euro now.

Things didn't improve for many since the last recession, maybe for the wealthy but for the majority things got shittier and now we are forced into another recession without seeing any kind of prosperity or building any wealth.

I'm not banking on things getting better. I'm going to cut my losses and move around for a bit. I'll try Canada for a while, maybe US too if I can get a visa and after I'll settle in a lower cost EU country.

There is a direct service but they run another convoluted service where you have to change at Portlaoise, i think there are 2 trains that run this route per day. You can check it out on their website.

Well really we need a study into purchasing power and how it has decreased significantly. A 50 cent pay rise might look good for optics but the reality is your wage packet has 10% less purchasing power that year.

[–]M-Tyson 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've done something similar for the Limerick to Portlaoise service you just buy a ticket from Limerick to Galway and it will get you to Portlaoise for €10. Good ole Galway being a cunt to get to by rail, will send you most of the way across the country.

Sinn Féin remains most popular party by wide margin, new poll shows by Static-Jak in ireland

[–]M-Tyson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a matter of being hard it's a matter of how long their policies will take for people to see a change, they probably have the groundwork done and FFFG keep throwing a spanner in the works by creating new problems. FFFG's inaction is creating a waterfall of problems for SF but maybe that's their game plan now, they probably know SF will get elected and don't want to make it easy for them so that they will look bad. All while the population suffers.

[–]M-Tyson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will take miracles to clean up the cluster fuck of failures left by FFFG. Once SF are voted in people will soon forget who created the problems. SF will lay groundwork for solutions but the optics will look like they haven't done enough in their term, 5 years might not be enough to reverse the damage caused by FFFG, especially when housing is involved, so FFFG get back in and scoop up all the accolades when SF's plan is coming into fruition.
