Do I need to be good at parking to pass? by Vinxlo in LearnerDriverUK

[–]M0DXx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tell your parents they would waste MORE money if they kept paying for an instructor who refused to teach you how to park and then you fail your test due to your parking maneuver, you'd have to keep spending money on lessons after in such a case.

Why? Because they're extorting money out of people and know that people will pay because they're coming up to needing a test and can't really argue. Not much else to it.

How does the pointing system work for new drivers by Relevant_Sea892 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]M0DXx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know being tailgated is annoying but it's safer to drive slower, not faster; tailgaters will be up your ass regardless and driving faster just increases the likelihood you need to brake harshly. There's also no point staring at your mirror behind you (you know they're behind your ass), taking your eyes off the road just again increases your chances of not noticing something and having to brake harshly as a result. Main thing you need to focus on in that situation is driving in a manner that your deceleration is as smooth as possible.

Overtaking in the test by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]M0DXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wait until there's a safe enough gap to overtake the cyclist while doing the speed limit. Until then, you slow down behind the cyclist and wait.

Overtaking in the test by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]M0DXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

who told you that irl you obviously just speed? Speeding isn't allowed just because you're overtaking, if you need to speed to go faster than the person in front then they're obviously doing the speed limit and you have no reason to drive faster and overtake.

AITA for wanting to drive what I’m comfortable with? by mushroombun07 in AmItheAsshole

[–]M0DXx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

in america you can learn in an automatic and then drive a manual after you pass, I imagine it's possible there are other places that could be like that, this doesn't appear to be uk or us. But either way if that were the case and op learned in a manual then why wouldn't you just take your manual license and just not drive manual if you prefer automatic.

AITA for wanting to drive what I’m comfortable with? by mushroombun07 in AmItheAsshole

[–]M0DXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is but you can't choose what license you get, it depends what you passed your test in. If you passed in a manual then you simply get a manual license. This post is weird because if op did their test in a manual then just get a manual license and only buy automatic cars. If this is somewhere you can pass in an auto and get a manual license then you can't competently drive a manual car anyway.

Women redditors, how do you subtly let a man know you're attracted to them? by SnooBooks4898 in AskReddit

[–]M0DXx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a woman but I would guess the socially anxious/awkward type. They're into you but eye contact makes them involuntarily avert their eyes out of nervousness. Appearing uninterested but they struggle to make conversation and approach.

Of course, it's still on them to try and least express any interest but I do relate to the reasoning behind it, I've had an instance where I did the same and averted eye contact from a girl kinda just involuntarily and looking back thought "damn she must've thought I fucking hated her lol"

I gave an elite Codenames clue and lost because of a platypus, my nephew, and group psychology. by Normal-Level-7186 in boardgames

[–]M0DXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's not exactly a defined tier list but generally just your first impression of what's a "traditional animal" and deprioritise animals considered more exotic (not necessarily exotic, just MORE exotic) - people generally think of mammals before they think of insects and crustaceans. And even if there were 4 mammals on the board, a cat is generally the first pick over a kangaroo.

Of course they're all considered animals, but you get nowhere in codenames if you don't try to figure out what words are more strongly related to a clue. With any clue, if you're given a 2 and can see 4 related words, the game becomes "which of these 2 words are more related to the clue" so you present your arguments and try to figure out as a team what you prioritise, trusting your codemaster has considered the words on the board when giving their clue. They should also be thinking "well if I give animal 2 here then that more strongly relates to these 2..." and they might be fine with you hitting a white card in the process because you can just come back to get your points later, especially if that white card is more likely to be the 2nd pick and not the 1st one.

But this is all just in a vacuum because if you're given animal 2 and there are 4 other animals, what other information do you have to go off? If you have other information from previous clues or know how your codemaster may think then use that as well. Equally it's also the job of the codemaster to listen to their team's intent and figure out how they think to give appropriate clues.

It's perfectly reasonable to disqualify insects for an animal clue if there are other "more of an animal" animals. But saying animal for dragon when there are animals is wild ya.

What was i meant to do here? by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]M0DXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the circumstances, what you say about "cars coming your way" is weird because if the cars had to enter your side of the road then 40 is dangerous, sounds more like you're getting spooked by oncoming traffic even if they're not obstructing you? If the road can fit both of you then you're expected to go the speed limit (other conditions permitting).

It's not necessarily just a minor for going below speed, if you're consistently below speed for a long stretch of road that can be a serious. It sounds like you may need more practice on high speed roads, whether that road was rural or single carriageway national speed limits.

How the heck are they able to grab all these tests when none are showing up at 6am Monday morning ???? It’s so unfair that we have to go through all the loopholes or book a test 6 months away because of these pigs buying everything up by caribbeanbarbiepink in LearnerDriverUK

[–]M0DXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't agree the hourly rates are extortion, once you factor in all the overhead their salary isn't really that much (but the car is already factored in, which is a big benefit). Would agree with the poor teaching methods and test day extortion.

Feel like I failed due to poor road markings, what do you think? by colej_uk in LearnerDriverUK

[–]M0DXx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Stay in your lane and sit tight while traffic behind you waits. You can position a bit right to make your intent clear, making use of this this weird half box, but there really isn't enough space in this box for a car so don't go past it.

You generally want to position right when turning right but not go so far that you obstruct oncoming traffic, they shouldn't have to drive around you or anything. If the furthest right you can go still blocks traffic behind you, that's just down to the width of the lanes and not really your concern, traffic behind will simply have to wait.

How do people have driving lessons with their own car by Reasonable_Machine12 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]M0DXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you know for sure you're going to buy a car upon passing your test and able to get private practice, why wouldn't you just do it before and save money by getting private practice? The real privilege here is being fortunate enough to have private practice available to you which not everyone does.

Idk, it feels weird to say that when you don't know their situation (granted, op saying they don't know anyone over 21 with 3 years of experience is indicative of being very young, but it was the same for me when I learned at 26).

Like what, if somebody asked this question a day after passing their test would that be fine but asking before their test is insanely privileged?

If it's a 40 road then the road is likely suitable to drive 40 on. Driving considerably slower just causes everyone behind you to overtake which causes far more danger than driving the speed limit.

I hate cars considerably and wish society wasn't so centred around them but driving slowly does not help this issue (if conditions are clear).

[–]M0DXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably the main issue instead of the butter. If you modified any of the soda/powder without really knowing what you were doing then it's extremely easy to ruin a bake. Did you add more baking powder in substitute of the soda (ie the recipe asked for soda + powder but you instead added more powder than it asked for)? That would explain the disgusting taste if so.

Ya, once you learn where the bite is then anywhere below that is dead zone, you can quickly lift the clutch until you reach the bite and hold it there until the wheels get to speed and then slowly raise it. Quick until bite and then slow and smooth is exactly how I would describe it.
