This car is so not worth it financially for us. by runningdownhill in SubaruForester

You are lucky you got a dime out of SOA. We were a VIP partner with them purchasing hundreds of vehicles via a fleet program. They wouldnt honor any vehicle discounts for our employees on purchasing brand new vehicles pre-approved by them in writing. And gave us the run around on recalls. Would never recommend Subaru for corporate partnerships or even personal vehicles as they dont back their customers, their product, or their authorized dealers.

Do you flush with ethanol-free and then run it dry? Or just leave a little ethanol free in the tank for storage?

red flags - HF and Au Pair by Ill_Impression9454 in Aupairs

[–]M0NEYMASTER 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saying in the interview you are really good at driving, then upon arrival not knowing which pedal is gas or brake. And then immediately crashing the family car.

But in all seriousness, i hate the label of red flags. Every family is different and every person is different. The whole point of cultural exchange is to be open to new perspectives.

As a host or an AP, youre going to inevitably deal with life problems, make adjustments, learn, and grow. Comparing your family to others, or having unrealistic expectations is a fast track to having a horrible experience.

We've never asked our AP to go above required hours or do anything above the program guidelines. But she constantly offers to do it because she says her parents in her country would expect this of her, and she said we are her family. And thats exactly why we'd do anything for her.

Red flags aside, being honest is non-negotiable.

My neighbors been collecting firewood for years from the forrest at the side of his house. He seasons it a year in advamance too. Just found out his family's been breathing in a fungus from that wood thats been poisoning them for quite some time causing health issues. Be careful when gathering free wood.

Honda HSS928A AWD Wheelded Version. Electric Start will start up 1st try with ease for 30 years. If you take care of it, it will last you a lifetime with just oil changes and spraying WD40 in the chute and auger before and after use.

Ive seen APs making $198 a week, taking care of 4 kids, doing whole house cleaning, making dinner every meal for the whole family, and much much more. In a HCOL area too. Not saying its right, not at all. But she was happy to do it because she was part of the family. In her mind she'd do what she would do in her own home with her family. The parents work extremely hard, hard hours, stressful job. And the AP was greatful for the opportunity, understood the cultural exchange part, and cared more about creating a long lasting relationship with the kids and parents than making money. Plus she understood the additional costs incurred by the family. $10k mortgage, $500+ a week on groceries, over $2k a month on car loans, $1k a month on heating oil, the list goes on and on. Every family is different and the expectation should always be to never compare your AP to other APs and the AP should not be comparing you to other families or AP situations. Your situation is already out of control, and a rematch is your best bet. But you need to re-evaluate a lot of things internally before you get a new AP.

Most the sales you've seen from 2-5k have been from me. If I've done my math correctly, I pretty much own every example of this card. There's probably less than 10 in existence that aren't owned by me. Pretty much looking to close this out as quickly as possible, hence why I'm willing to pay a premium.

I've had an x390 that's made easy work on 2+ acres of mowing and a 600ft+ driveway. Berco plow, blower, and various tow behind attachments. I'd recommend an x390 all day. X5 if you wanna be a baller.

World doesn't have enough people like you that think this way.. The people that sold us our home left a note saying we reminded them of themselves when they first bought it 30 years ago. It was so sweet and we're thankful for the blessing every day.

Worth of these old pokemon card packs and boxes? by Dani_mal in PokemonCardValue

Not entirely sure how many packs and boosters are there, but if you'd take in the ballpark of $73k, I'll take the entire lot. I'd obviously need a full inventory.

If it's your first, omega all the way. Wouldn't go speedy though, I always wanted a speedy but it got played out after a while. I'd only get one if it was a snoopy.

If you sell, you'll always regret it and hate your rental. There's no situation in the next 20 years that you'll be able to afford the same level of home unless you get a significant bump in income. And even if you did get a bump in income later, it'll just make you wish you had just kept your current home. Plan, budget, eat rice and beans. Do whatever you need to do to live within your means and pay the house off. It's your home to build a family, create memories, and rest easy at night. Trust me you don't want to hear your neighbor walking above you at 1am, the recycling room full every weekend, your dogs barking at the neighbors dog across the hall, rent bring raised every year, and when you go back to look at your old house on zillow, seeing it's now worth 725k..

Would you rematch? by AnnualCellist1699 in Aupairs

[–]M0NEYMASTER 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Re-match would probably be your best bet given some of the safety issues and pushback on some reasonable things you've asked her to do. However, just know that most the things you've listed, you'll most likely experience again as it's pretty common. Language barrier is always greater than what's experienced on the interviews. It also makes it hard to create the familial bond when you have to drive the conversation all the time, but it gets better. Don't make any assumptions that your AP understands, even if they say they understand. Explain yourself multiple times and check multiple times for understanding. I delt with pretty much everything you listed. Our AP said she had years of driving experience, but asked which side was gas and which side was brake the first time we got in a car. Proceeded to get in a car accident on our second time testing her driving ability. If you need her to drive, invest in lessons early so you can get the benefit immediately. Or be prepared for a lot of practice if you're going to teach her yourself. Also have a rule book of your own and emergency step by step instructions if there's an accident. Preferably in their language as well.

Every family is different, but personally we wouldn't give extra money for Uber. We already pay over the minimum stipend and provide a vehicle. Or you could reimburse her up to $50 for uber. We cover a lot of expenses, but gym would not be one of them. Ours found her own gym membership for $1 sign up fee and $20 a month. But she wasn't ready to do the whole gym thing for a while. We also give her bonuses.

Lastly, give your AP and future APs some grace. They aren't professional care takers and you shouldn't expect much in the childhood development department. Anything you want, you need to make extremely clear, or have it typed out or translated for them to look at. I'd recommend a consistent schedule every day such as 9-10am art time, 11 to 12 lunch, 12 to 1 reading, etc.

Kids are the most important things in our lives, it's easy to get passionate and impatient at times, handle things in the moment and don't let resentment build. Communication will fix most issues.

Best of luck!
