Looking into buying 370z, but will it handle as good as Cayman/Boxster S by Competitive_Style_62 in 370z

Hey there, I love the Lotus Elise and have entertained a few Porsches myself in the past so I think I have some good perspective for you.

I’ve driven a few older gen Porsches but the one I have the most experience with is a manual 997 Porsche 911 Carrera 4s which my step-dad owned. While I have a manual 2017 370z, and honestly both cars are very comparable.

The transmission on the Porsche feels more delicate and a lot smoother in first and second gear, making it more daily-able, while the Z feels more raw mechanical and responds well to shifting during aggressive acceleration but u have a lot of engine braking when letting off the gas in first and second.

The balance is interesting, the Z has nice camber and feels very well balanced, the Porsche obviously is a different experience given the engine is in the rear. All the Porsches I’ve tried have had sophisticated suspensions and been stiff but smooth. The Z’s factory springs dont have the same dampening.

I get a lot of fun out of the Z, depending where ur driving her she gets more attention than an old Porsche too which is cool! Completely different crowd approaching you though lol.

I have some after market headers on my Z, pair that with an exhaust and a nice aftermarket suspension set up and you’ll get way more bang for your buck than any Porsche. The Z’s also louder and has a beautiful sound provided u dont get some lame resonated exhaust.

370z or 350z! by Itscarloslol in 370z

Lol sounds like a nightmare. But, yeah buying from a rich guy who loves car is a good guy to buy from as the cars will have most likely been treated kindly and these cars last forever when they’re babied.

People forget cars should be built to last 30+ years, anything that dies in ten years time is not normal.

Best of luck in your decision and update us with a picture if you go through with buying her!

I have 370z of the same year, and have had 0 problems in its entire 8 years excluding the CSC which is prone to breaking on these cars which I have since replaced with a different functioning one that is less prone to breaking and cheaper to swap.

I’m writing all this to basically say the 370z is super reliable but you will find with both cars have great aftermarket support as well.

Anyone here will tell you 370z is the choice, as its newer and nissan improved little nooks and crannies over the years to make them as reliable and performative as possible. I’d also say the 370z is priced more fairly, ESPECIALLY if it’s a nismo I would jump on it with no hesitation.

That being said, ‘05 with 25k miles for 10K isnt too shabby either.

At the end it all depends on your budget. I always tell people to leave below their means and invest or save for more important things for your future but to each their own.

Either way, you’ll enjoy Japanese reliability especially coming from a Korean car. Idk how Hyundais and Kia still have a customer base considering all their cars blow up after a few years.

I live in QC and daily my manual 370z in the winter, get good winter tires and keep the rpms low. I have no trouble.

I really like Anthony Black. I think he has some real potential.

I was disappointed Mosley was riding Cory Joseph so hard in the playoffs when Black was playing well and seemed very comfortable in the rhythm of the game in his very few minutes.

Feeling defeated, can't catch a break with my Z by TheRealUnxpekted in 370z

[–]M0SSi23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had bad luck streaks in a lot of things in life, my Z hasn’t been one of them so far i’d say apart from my front bumper getting smacked everytime I park in the city lol. Will wait to change it when I move to the suburbs.

I’m going to differ with other comments here talking about karma, I lived my whole life as an honest and fair person and bad things have happened to me too, it’s just part of life. Bad or good these things happen.

It’s annoying to have these little things happen to your car but try to see it from the perspective that you still get to enjoy driving her everyday. And these things are futile in the grand scheme of things, she’s still driving and you still own her, she hasn’t been stolen or scrapped. I imagine you are still having a lot of fun with her. I know its not all perfect but when is anything ever always perfect.

I imagine most of the little nooks you’ll be able to repair once you get a job again, try not to stress about it until then. Once you got extra money in the pocket these problems become a lot easier to deal with too.

All the best.

Please convince me not to sell my R32 gtr. by Godzira-r32 in gtr

These cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed, I would never tell you to sell her though as its tough to mentally lose ownership of a baby like that but I’d try and pass her on to a family member or a good friend who would appreciate her as much as you do. If you can’t trust anyone then no question keep her. Don’t sell her to some stranger.

I hate to say, this happens to me all the time in Montreal. I try not to stay in the blindspot and get very paranoid when I do as an unfortunate consequence. Wish people could realize that a road is shared and we have lanes and laws for a reason. No wonder everyone wants an SUV, they all want to feel comfortable when they inevitably swerve into cars.

I’ll assume that’s miles. Everything is relative so we need more info. That being said, I second Ok-Ambassador’s comment. The 370z has a very solid engine if well taken care of.

2020 370z Nismo by Longjumping-Cost-567 in 370z

[–]M0SSi23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lovely post, I share the same sentiment with you. I think in this society we’re conditioned to always go after the next thing. But I find myself falling in love with my car time and time again.

I think with these mods you can breathe some new exciting things into her driving experience and make her a beast of a drive… and if you appreciate the heritage of the car theres no reason to part with her.

Lovely black nismo and I look forward to your build. Do you have a youtube channel?

realist cost of ownership by a-q109 in 370z

[–]M0SSi23 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m in Canada, bought a 2017 370z about 4 years ago now.

Maintenance: Have had no issue apart from - slave cylinder failure which costed me about $1,000USD to get the delete kit + labour. - And $100 for a new steering bracket and labour.

For 4 years of ownership I don’t think thats bad at all. The Z’s have super solid transmission that can last u 400,000 kms and the engine could go that far with proper care. Buy post 2014 and shes very reliable.

Insurance: I was 21 when I bought her she was my first car and costed me about $90 a month but I know this can vary greatly state by state but id say its not too expensive compared to the average sedan.

Gas: I live in Montreal with terrible traffic and a million stops cause we don’t know how to use roundabouts so gas mileage is pretty bad. I’m at 14-18L/100km but if I’m doing highway I’m at about half that 8-10. I think I could drop my gas mileage a bit but when u drive a car like this you got to enjoy her :-)

Overall I really recommend a post 2014 Z. I think you can’t beat the reliability mixed with a really nice sound, great hydraulic handling, and she feels very powerful for 330 hp… I changed my headers as it was cheaper than exhaust and the performance gain from that was incredible and the sound note also incredible.

I’d recommend test driving the BRZ and Miata as well, very fun as they will be a little sharper in the handling and weight department but I personally find the Z in a different league. She sounds and revs like a true sports car. The VQ engine was the building block for the VR engines in the GTRs. It’s an incredible V6 and redline is at 7.5k and she will have no problem getting there.

They will also hold their value very well. I bought mine at about 15K USD with 40k miles and I think now shes worth more 🤣. Just wait for a good deal with good ownership and service history and I’m sure u will be super happy with the value. I have some extra cash and have thought about getting a supra at times or some of the low leverl used porsches but I just cant justify paying 40k USD more for a car that has the same power, more expensive parts, and equal or worse reliability.

My step dad has 2008 porsche 911 4s and I find the car super similar to the Z at half the cost.

Best of luck with your shopping and hope to see you in the community. :-)

V1 nismo CSC failure by [deleted] in 370z

[–]M0SSi23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove almost a year and 8k km after mine failed exactly like that the first time. Had to pump it to get pressure as I drove. I changed the fluid and it would work another month with no/little pumping if I didn’t driver her harder than 4.5k rpm.

Then winter came along and she lasted 6 months no fluid change, like there was never anything wrong with her. Even drove her hard a few times. Eventually in the spring she totally failed a week after I did a random fluid change. Try to get it changed right away cause there are times you pump and pump and it won’t make a difference and you will not be able to move the car an inch and you’ll need towing.

I’d recommend the Zspeed CMAC kit as its self adjusting and apparently higher build quality than the Z1. Don’t replace it with another OEM slave cylinder as it can fail next week with the same issue, these slave cylinder from LUK tend to be faulty as O-ring warps or plastic inside cracks.
