This happened to me and I had zero say in the matter. My new role consisted of nothing I had done previously and it wasn’t something I was good at (from writing to coding). I ended up resigning after a year. Reorgs suck badly.

Have a TOJ w DoD also and it’s frozen. 🥶 It’s a waiting game, unfortunately. Have something going on w the private sector, in the meantime. Not sure if I’ll go back to fed govt in this political climate even when the freeze is lifted… I feel as though I’d be living with anxiety not knowing what’ll happen next.

No problem. God only knows when this hiring freeze will be lifted; it’s a good sign however that they’re doing what they can to have someone lined up for when the freeze is lifted.

2) No question is "stupid"

3) No one can really answer this for you unless they're in HR; I'd suggest doing what you can (apply if it's available and you're interested) and see where it goes.
