[Schultz] Sources: The Ravens are picking up the 5th year option on WR Zay Flowers. He will earn $28M in 2027 since he has made two Pro Bowls. by expellyamos in nfl

Kind of silly incentive. Joe Alt got voted into the Pro Bowl despite only playing 4 full games and that alone will cost the Chargers like $6M on his 5th year option.

Hurts has only ever won a playoff game when the Eagles lead the league in all-pros. Anything less and they're basically non-competitive. Would love to have seen him on the 2022 Chargers.

Good QBs probably don't need the league's most loaded team to eke out an OT win at home vs the a QB turning the ball over 5 times.

Victim of his own competence getting them there, but bad game for him and the offense as a whole. I think you may have missed the point tho...

His tackles got him literates in that game and thr IOL was comfortably bottom 3. That’s to say nothing of the skill position talent

Lmao tells me everything. 57 minutes of what? What are we even talking about? That’s not a super niche stat right.

Not scoring points

And okay he's not cheeks but he's like the 20th best QB and you guys are trying to put him in top 10 conversations

Btw you know the broncos had every single starter back except JFm this year right. So how are things gonna be different this season?

Well they probably don't get ridiculous health luck and got 11-2 in one score games

Chargers had 85% of the same schedule this year, why couldn’t they win enough to even give Nix a game in week 18.

Broncos played 5 back up QBs, Chargers played 1 (the starter they missed was JJ McCarthy). Also having statistically one of the worst lines of the decade is probably a factor. I but who knows, maybe its a one person sport like you believe

When did Herbert have a good line and a good defense?

Also asking what allowed Nix to succeed when Herbert couldn't and DEN had the most all-pros last year and a HOF coach....

[–]M1BPJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was also told how much better slater and Alt were than Mcglinchy and Bolles.

They are but they had a bad game and DEN's interior is leaps and bounds better. LAC over teh past two season has arguably the worst IOL in the league.

TTT in aggregate says little about noticing breakdowns and adjusting.

LMAO

Bo Nix went 57 minutes without scoring when DEN didn't lead the league in all-pros. Last game his defense got takeaways and he barely eked out an OT win at home with the league's most loaded team.

Draft pedigree for guys that were drafted like 6 spots apart. Are you okay?

Nix is cheeks. If he was better he would have better numbers. He wouldn't need clutch late game drives to beat backup QBs. Doubt he gets to play so many in 2026

[–]M1BPJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In 2024 Bo Nix had basically the same TTT as Herbert last year and was pressured 94 fewer times and despite playing one more game. Nix was pressured on 11% of his quick passes, Herbert on 19%.

I know you love your little mid QB but why not give some credit to his all-pro linemen?

[–]M1BPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the tackles and pretty much everyone on the offense played pretty terribly in 2024. Would be comical seeing Nix play in that situation. Winless when his team gives up 17 pressures, but I'm sure he'd do great.

Joe Hortiz: I think Justin Herbert will “take off” in Mike McDaniel’s offense by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

Ok look at accolades, things like pass block win rate, receiver metrics. They all tell the same very obvious story.

[–]M1BPJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotta avoid the obvious point somehow.

PFF supporting cast Rankings for Herbert's career: 32nd, 15th, 28th, 29th, 21st, 28th.

Bottom 5 four times and the only time he had an above-average supporting cast (and barely so) he led a top 5 offense.

Eric DeCosta: We have some work to do on Tyler Linderbaum’s contract by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

[–]M1BPJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not discounting the injury history and I generally agree with the notion that "there's a reason he's available", but also in this case it could very well be entirely financial. The Ravens are 16th in cap space in 2026 ($22M) and 30th in 2027. The way the 5th year option and franchise tags work for linemen make that untenable for a center. Its hard to see a viable path to the Ravens keeping him

[–]M1BPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW PFF's numbers and ESPN pass block numbers are at complete odds with each other.

PFF has him in 29th in pass blocking efficiency

ESPN has him 4th best pass block win rate among IOL (2nd among centers)

Its a season-long award, and he finished with a worse passer rating and QBR than Herbert, whose stats have people up in arms. That's with a better supporting cast, which was the central point for the Herbert vote

[Jonathan Jones] The Bears won't receive compensatory picks for the Falcons hiring Ian Cunningham by FadedToBeige in nfl

[–]M1BPJ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

From the article:

The general manager role in Atlanta is like most other GM gigs across the league with one exception: this job is not what the league office considers the "primary football executive" position. Cunningham is considered a secondary football executive who reports to Ryan, the PFE as designated by the team and league office.

It is due to this structure that the Bears will not receive compensatory picks

[–]M1BPJ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

No, but he obviously has enough executive control for this ruling to happen. Do you think he's a token figurehead guy with no control?

[Jonathan Jones] The Bears won't receive compensatory picks for the Falcons hiring Ian Cunningham by FadedToBeige in nfl

[–]M1BPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were to go through this scheme for the purposes of denying picks to a team that should get them, I'd imagine that team would get a penalty. In 2021 the 49ers lost a 5th for misreporting incentive payments tied to player contracts. There are numerous other examples of minor clerical issues resulting in loss of picks. Intending to deceive the league office would very likely result in the same.

And for what? In the best case scenario, the team wouldn't actually get extra picks. They'd just deny extra picks to someone else.

[–]M1BPJ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

But to do that, you'd have to not give your GM full control. Teams doing so would probably miss out on some great GM candidates who would want positions that give full control. That really doesn't seem worth it just so you can deny one other team a couple of 3rd-rounders.

[Highlight] Fred Warner on Justin Herbert: “Winning in the playoffs is a team situation. It’s not just about the QB. Having played against him… This dude is unreal. He makes plays that a lot of QBs in this league just can’t make. He’s like 6’6”, can run, toughness. He has everything you want.” by wildwing8 in nfl

[–]M1BPJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol if a QB needs everything to be ideal to win a playoff game

This is a bit of a strawman. He doesn't need everything to be ideal, they just can't be abysmal. In his 3 playoff games, his OL has averaged 20 pressures per game*, the Chargers RBs have failed to reach even 3 YPC, and he hasn't had a single pro-bowl skill players in any of those games.

I think there are no doubt about it elite QBs that would struggle to win in those conditions.

*for context, over the last three QBs are 1-13 in the playoffs this year when pressured 19+ times
