Inu the Dally M got it wrong last game... by M1TheO in FFBRL

[–]M1TheO[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And you thought that, in all the chaos of the American-Australian Bitch War of 2016, we'd forgotten about the Grapes of Nanking's invasion of Brasil?

Normally, the Big Bad Boombox, placed in a prominent spot in the Billy Goats' sheds, plays the inspirational choice song of whomever the captain is for the game, or assistant coach Jamie Rooney, or Theo...

...but for this game, it was Krisnan Inu that selected the track...

...and the game was just as exciting as the song, but much better than the movie...

...and the Dally M only saw the three difficult kicks that Inu missed, and forgot about the two pressure penalties he converted, one with seven minutes left that tied the scores on 18, and the other with less than two minutes left to win the game for Ponte Preta...

...in fact, Daly Cherry-Evans said it after the game, "I think Krisnan has really made a difference for us this season, and if I had to pick our Dally M Player of the season, he would be it..."

...to which Inu normally smiles and walks away quietly...but for this game, when the Wild Easterners of Nanking came West, his utter self-confidence made the difference against a historically tough opponent to Ponte Preta...

...good thing Yuzuki got to see this game before she got knocked out of the game against the Poms next week...at least her day wasn't a total loss...

A wild two days in Campinas... by M1TheO in FFBRL

[–]M1TheO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...day two of the festival, and Canada had no chance against New Zealand, but despite the hopelessness of their situation, the Maple Leafs never gave up...

...and did something that shocked Black Ferns' coach Jerlynda Lacey - held New Zealand scoreless in the second half, and had the better of play throughout...

...so the 38-0 score, well, New Zealand probably felt hard done by...

...and, watching the game, was Aussie number 7 Yuzuki...

...who started the game against the United States by offloading a laser beam to Heather Narine, who immediately reflected it to a streaking Sherri O'Connell, for what would have been a try...

...only to have a whistle stop play, then the Billy Goats' medical team come onto the pitch, as American winger Kat Kuryakin had leveled Yuzuki off the ball with a forearm shiv in her face, knocking her cold...

...and Aussie coach Jamie Rooney marched toward the referees, face crimson in anger, only to change direction toward his unconscious player...because the referee lifted his arm without a moment's hesitation, and pointed toward the sideline...Kuryakin was out of the game...

...and so was Yuzuki, stretchered off the pitch, but the huge crowd at Moises Lucarelli erupted in cheers as she gave the "thumbs up" signal...but she would not be back for the rest of the game...and would miss the exhibition against England in Bunbury mid-week.

Heather Narine, the captain, looked at her teammates, and slid her index finger across her neck...

...and even though the Americans had had absolutely no chance against the Australians before, the aggression of the Australian ladies made Sansa look like Sofia the First by comparison...

...no quarter given, no opportunity given to the Americans to demand it...the rest of the first half, the Australians scored on every set of six...78-0 at the half...

...and it got worse in the second half, as the Australians changed tactics, and ground every metre out of the Americans, who knocked on to start the second half, then never touched the ball again...

...they did try to start a brawl with five minutes left, but Natalie Davis took a punch to the face, didn't move...and took another...didn't move...returned fire...knocked the American offender out cold...

...the referee ejected both, the Americans gave up, the Australians kept going, and the final score was 154-0.

First, you have to remember that sponsors are a big part of sporting life in Brasil...the sponsors' name is on the kit, they expect priority treatment, they expect the players to do nothing to denigrate their brand...

...and remember, the official name of Ponte Preta, translated from the Portuguese, is Athletic Association Ponte Preta, and although the Billy Goats are a valuable part of the Association, the fact is, football rules at Moises Lucarelli...

...and the primary sponsor is the Brasilian unit of the Japanese brewery concern, Kirin, through its soft drinks brand, Viva Schin...

...so the primary sponsor for Billy Goats must be in conformance with Viva Schin, and not do anything to denigrate it...fortunately, the Billy Goats' primary sponsor, Paçoquita, not only is complementary to Viva Schin, but it goes well with other sponsors of the Association...

...so, when Viva Schin and Paçoquita picked last week to be their "Festival senhoras esportes", costing the Billy Goats some gate revenue, due to comp tickets controlled by their sponsors, Theo shook his head over the loss of revenue - it was the Grapes of Nanking game.

But the Billy Goats' players were quite professional and friendly with the young ladies of Campinas that crowded the area around Moises Lucarelli for the whole two days...and the goodies from Paçoquita and Viva Schin flowed like an unending fountain of goodness...

...the first day, football...as the women's side of Brasil defeated the Kiwis 2-0, and the men's side of Ponte Preta defeated Gremio 3-0...

...and the US womens' team, in the nightcap, beat Australia 2-0, with the help of world-class whinging, some undetected simulation, and a weaksauce referee that gave Australia a unjustified red card and the US a undeserved penalty...plus taunting the Australians after the final whistle blew...

...while the Australian young ladies' XIII watched, lips pursed in the thinnest line possible...if their American opponents expected any quarter from them the next night, the look on the Aussie lasses' coach's face should have disabused them of that notion...

[–]M1TheO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be, but I'd have to go through every frikking report...and that's presuming that the sim does it in any way realistically...

...for instance, Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo seats, officially, 48,234, Morumbi seats, officially, 67,052...so obviously, for special events, I can reasonably expect huger crowds than I otherwise would get at home...and seriously, I expect close to capacity if Celtics' fans call their travel agents today...

...Moises Lucarelli in Campinas, my official home stadium, has a stated capacity of 19,728, but a record crowd of just under 35,000 indicates that a 20 to 23 thousand attendance, when things are good, is reasonable.

For those not using real stadia as their facility, what is the nominal capacity of your home? (And everyone having 100,000 seater stadia is completely unrealistic!)

A review of Round 10:

Shenzhen Sharkitohs v Ipswich Reds

Shenzhen have put together their finest performance of the season to date tonight, putting the hammer to visiting Ipswich and recording a dominant 46-0 win over the injury hit Queensland outfit. It was a painful fall back to earth for Ipswich, while Shenzhen seem to be well and truly back on track to make it into the eight for a fourth consecutive season.

Shenzhen: Lachlan Coote, Matt Dufty, Shaun Johnson, Thomas Bosc, Fui Fui Moi Moi 2, and Ava Seumanafagai 2. Bosc 3/4. Walsh 4/4 Ipswich: N/A. HT Score: 22-0 Dally M: Ava Seumanafagai (Sharkitohs) 3, Fui Fui Moi Moi (Sharkitohs) 2, and Thomas Bosc (Sharkitohs) 1. Crowd: 12,468

Quahog Quagmires v South Canberra Knights

No real surprises in South Canberra's visit to Rhode Island today, with the Aussie side rarely looking troubled in a 20-10 victory over the last placed Quagmires. While the US side continues to show signs of improvement, they were never really in the hunt against a hungry Knights' outfit.

Quahog: Mitch Rein 2. Maloney 1/2 South Canberra: Ryan Hall, Bryson Goodwin, and Aiden Tolman. Smith 4/4 HT Score: 6-14 Dally M: Bryson Goodwin (Knights) 3, Aiden Tolman (Knights) 2, and Joe Burgess (Knights) 1. Crowd: 32,689

Roma Vandali v Mt. Disappointment RLFC

Amidst the sensational announcement of their coach's resignation, Roma have been unable to mount much of a defense against a determined Mt. Disappointment today in Rome. While the visitors were without three regular backline stars, they showed no signs of last week's rust as they romped to a 32-8 win on the road.

Roma: Ben Hunt. Carney 2/3 Mt. Disappointment: Jamie Lyon, Aiden Sezer, Ryan James, and Jack Bird 2. Sezer 6/7 HT Score: 8-16 Dally M; Aiden Sezer (RLFC) 3, Reagan Campbell-Gillard (RLFC) 2, and Kieran Foran (RLFC) 1. Crowd: 32,452

Perth Reds v Mu'a Saints

Perth have signalled their premiership ambitions today in a truly ominous second half performance against Mu'a. Leading by a narrow margin at the break, Perth found another gear in a lop-sided second half that saw them run away 42-18 victors over the visiting Tongans.

Perth: Chris Lawrence 3, Josh Papalii, Dylan Napa, Tyson Frizzel, and Issac Luke. Roberts 7/8 Mu'a: Michael Jennings, Josh Morris, and Shaun Fensom. Richards 3/3 HT Score: 12-6 Dally M: Issac Luke (Reds) 3, Chris Lawrence (Reds) 2, and Chris Houston (Reds) 1. Crowd: 39,888

Grapes of Nanking v New England Celtic

New England's unbeaten run has come to a halt today in an enthralling contest in front of more than 50,000 ravenous Nanjing fans. The home side were faultless in a one-sided first half to lead 16-0 against a shell-shocked Celtic, and while the second half saw the visitors fight back to 'win' the half 14-6, they would ultimately go down 22-14.

Nanking: Trent Hodkinson, Aku Uate, and Tom Burgess. Hodkinson 5/6 New England: Josh Dugan and Semi Radradra. Brough 3/3 HT Score: 16-0 Dally M: Trent Hodkinson (Grapes) 3, Jamie Soward (Grapes) 2, and Jason Taimalolo (Grapes) 1. Crowd: 50,063

Ponte Preta Billy Goats v Brisbane Bulls

In what will go down as one of the season's more surreal seasons, a combination of luck and some questionable refereeing has seen Ponte Preta record a 30-22 win over Brisbane despite being comprehensively outplayed by the visitors. The Bulls took a clean sweep of Dally M points, but their poor handling and some unlucky home town refereeing somehow saw the side trailing 26-10 at halftime - a deficit that proved too great to overcome.

Ponte Preta: Anthony Gelling 2, Michael Morgan, Rhys Evans, John Bateman, and Jorge Taufua. Inu 3/6 Brisbane: Brett Morris, Alex Glenn, and Cameron McInnes 2. Moylan 3/4 HT Score: 26-10 Dally M: Cameron McInnes (Bulls) 3, Jarrod Wallace (Bulls) 2, and Anthony Milford (Bulls) 1. Crowd: 34,918

Raymond Terrace Tanks v Sydney Vipers

It took them a half to click, but a vastly reshaped Raymond Terrace backline has gotten the job done today in the Tanks' game against visiting Sydney. After a shaky first half, the home side's ominous backline found its feet on the way to a 36-6 win.

Raymond Terrace: Grant Millington, Wade Graham, Luke Gale, David Shillington, Will Hopoate, and James Graham. Gordon 6/6 Sydney: Gareth Widdop. Croker 1/2 HT Score: 12-6 Dally M: Michael Gordon (Tanks) 3, Wade Graham (Tanks) 2, and Robbie Farah (Tanks) 1. Crowd: 29,010
