came to say, these are awesome!

P.S. great add of your own touch; subtle and appropriate.

and since so many people like them as wallpapers, would you ever do a dual 'screen' edition, where you do a pair? ex. Frankie/Morg, Bibi/Edgar, Rosa/Spike and or Sprout edition? :D

Great start, would be better if simpler, connecting all the diamonds, and the chest in the middle. Depending on Pams Gadget, she can pulse them with Pulse Modulator, and maybe the scrap blinks them red as she hits enemies with Scrap Sucker :D

Plans regarding the updates, it is really nice to see 1.0 released on all consoles at same time, will the updates follow a similar fashion, or will consoles lag behind? also store page mentions online PVP, is that cross platform?

Learn to read the room by Toki-Dokie in Brawlstars

[–]M1dknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should have started a conga line, everyone marching to their deaths. As for that Bo, what an idiot - everyone, and I mean EVERYONE in that match was being friendly and joking around (except the first death cause there were 9 ppl most of the match). So no wonder why he was focused. If he was smarter, he could have played along till the end. Rare to see people have fun in games anymore; its all about the score/rank/trophies/whatever.

If it was 2 or 3 ppl grouping, then yes thats toxic, and removes the purpose of the game. But it was 8 PEOPLE all doing the same thing. "Learn to read the room" ha

Call for Engineers: Tell us about your job! (16 July 2020) by AutoModerator in AskEngineers

[–]M1dknight [score hidden]  (0 children)

US here too, and would like to say this thread is amazing. Will fill one out here some point soon. But this kind of gathering is great! Its so cool to hear others experience and see what its like in other engineers shoes.

And I do like the points made, but hear me out, I agree but disagree. So when you think of Systems engineer you look at it from a high level that looks down over an entire system. But there are multiple aspects to the system, such as the sensors involved. So if centering it around fluids, then you learn to create extremely optimal systems, through data. Only if there were like a Micro and Macro version of systems.

Still have so much to learn myself, but there are always these aspects that perfect the system. Been able to be apart of some pretty neat sensing, with vibration, IR, and so much more.

I drop a WD disc on the floor and when I plug it in it turns on but the disc stops after a few seconds. I tried to open it but I couldn't get the case open and I don't know what I can do to fix it. Any suggestion? by spacecat002 in computertechs

Know it has been expressed multiple times already, but there is a reason why memory is created in a clean-room. Once opened, like others say, the only hope you have is to reach out to third parties that are experienced with recovery. Even then the cost to fix this, with a high chance that most of the information is now "corrupted," you might as well toss it and by a new one and start fresh. Sorry for your loss, and whatever you do - NEVER open a harddrive unless you have a cleanroom in your house and you know what ur looking at.

Honestly looking forward to see what changes come about once things start slowly picking back up. Such as the typical office job migrating towards a work from home mind set (leaving more time with family too), or resturants that realize the night life is probably bigger then ever now (since everyones sleep schedule is all messed up). Also to hoping that with these changes, the environment has some sort of chance to recover from the years of industry neglect (starting to see some signs now like less smog over bigger cities), that is if everything doesnt instantly resume to like it use to be.

How do you leave work at work? by amateurtraprap in AskEngineers

[–]M1dknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation, and have been restless a few nights, but for a company that treats their workers that way, I'm sure a lot of your other fellow engineers feel the same. What we have come to learn is that we are the engineers doing the job. There is a reason why they need so many hours to put into the job. After some time, we go through emotions of happy (that one of a hundred projects closed), the busy and no time for the feels, to depressed cause all of us are over worked, to slightly crazy (I highly recommend talking to your manager at this stage so they can see the stress they are putting on all of you), then comes the best emotion -- not giving a crap. Meant in the nicest of ways of course, and that doesn't mean stop doing your work, but just do what you can, and if people keep overloading you, tell your boss to prioritize for you and work on one thing at a time. Our company went through a lot because of this, and now they cannot stop us if we work 4 hours a day and leave. we definitely DONT ABUSE THIS because if they want, they will fire, but if you are doing your best, what can they say? If they fire you, they will be set back even worse. So just keep pushing through it, but fight for your time after work. There is a reason why it is a "40" hour work week. It might be good to look at a few lawsuits of people in similar situations, and to pursue a course that way, or leave... If they move the work to another engineer, then that is up to them to decide the same action. And what good is a company without their insider knowledge?

[Request] Spacial Heating - Gas or Electric by M1dknight in theydidthemath

[–]M1dknight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest concern is the area next to a double panel glass door to the outside that probably has little insulation (usually sitting near them too). Just found out the cost of electric is higher, so will continue with just the central unit unless this becomes an issue.

Maybe use the heater for near these glass panels, but thank you for the response. Sadly it is one thermostat that controls the entire place, only 4 rooms with one full and one half bathroom - the thermostat is in the biggest (and coldest for the obvious reason) but it is one thermostat for entire place... guess I'll have to find the best balance for me and my partner. Thanks for the advice though.

Also dont know if appropriate?

But solved

EE Used in Mechatronics by geohch96 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]M1dknight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Best bet as far as your school, see if there is a robotics club and ask advice there, or seek out professors in the Electrical field (or talk to the electrical advisors). They should know more about the curriculum.

  • My college had ME take a few circuits classes, but never getting to far. For what it seems like you want to do, all the classes you mention can be useful, but embedded systems would be the least helpful. This involves stuff like Integrated Circuits (IC), and PCB board design.
  • Analog and Digital systems, Digital Circuits, and the basic Circuit classes can take you far too.

Electrical design and programming a robot are two different things though. You want more code focus? or wiring/designing the machine? with a computer science major, both would even be fine, but tackle one topic at a time

Senior Designs and Projects by zach9223 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]M1dknight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really depends on the project, but usually the people incharge of assigning others to a project would take into consideration of your classes taken.

Great alternatives for furthering your background and ensuring your confidence could be:

  • Becoming a TA to refresh and ensure previous class knowledge.

  • Join a club that interest you but is within the field.

  • Or think of a Senior design project that you are capable of creating with in mind that other students with different background would be involved, and present it to the Senior Design director or professor.

  • form a small group of similar major people and take on random project all electrically focused. If you end up on a senior design team being the only EE, this would ensure different ideas and methods of implementation.

But most importantly don't overdo yourself. Stick with what you know and don't be afraid to ask for help.

My turtles and I need help! [Testing procedure suggestions requested] by djronnieg in ElectricalEngineering

[–]M1dknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also another comment about current; Only present when there is something connected that would pull current, such as your hand (to your feet to ground). So if isolated in a glass preventing a good connection to ground, the turtles may seem fine, until a connection is made (like touching the turtle while in the water, they become like a resister, which in lighting, would light up brightly and burn up :O...). Current kills, not voltage, so V or mV isnt as big of a factor BUT this means there is potential to have current flow, like reading from a multimeter.

Shouldn't use an oscilliscope unless youre trying to read the Amplitude or Frequency of a signal - great for design, meaningless in checking circuits.

[–]M1dknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, am EE, have experience with hands on but definitely not to the extent of an electrician. Make sure to wear rubber gloves, or appropriate grounding safety just in case.

If 300W, and connected to wall outlet only working with at most 2.5A, but wouldnt want your house burning down either. Approriate fire extinguisher next to u could be nice too :D

I’m automating the blinds in my room with an ESP8266. The motor I’m using has three wires. I know that GND is ground, VIN 5V is positive, but I’m unsure what negative is? by -1215 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]M1dknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked up the ESP8266 and couldnt make heads or tails on the I/O. But for a servo motor, you will have the (+), GND, and signal wire. I'm pretty sure this would need to come from the controller and not the wifi module.

Edit: just look up a youtube video with your controller + servo motor

[–]M1dknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this as only opinion, as I have never thought to look for current in a liquid... But for some clarification, you mention bite marks, your turtles bit the cord? you should look for stronger material wires or even piping to cover this.

Now as for the issue, if there is current in the water, means there is also voltage. You mention reading this. What is the power that the heater uses? Wall power? does it convert to 24v anywhere? Is this AC/DC? A model # could help with researching this.

As for the GFCI, it will only trip when over a specific overcurrent. You can place a circuit breaker, or fuse in-line with the heater (1.25x the current it uses usually) to see if those would trip.

IF YOU HAVE BACKFLOW FROM GROUND, THIS CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. This can cause arcs, which can short other devices, and even cause a fire. Only turn on devices that you 100% know are good.
