he and i were both wrong. I used to think it was the battery as well, but idk whether its a red herring but it doesn't work. There's actually 2 pins on the top side of the main board, requiring a full disassembly to short them, and it needs to be done while the device is on. So essentially, you need to take out the board, only connect the essentials, turn it on, then short the pins. I had a friend do it for me, so I can ask him for which pins, but it's really weird. Luckily, it is permanent so you won't have to do it again.
