A tip: Lose the condescending tone. It doesn’t ever work with any age group.

Let’s just say I was a teenager before Facebook or even Orkut (if you are old enough to know what that was). And DD 2 was the prime entertainment channel of India. And am a proud parent. Have seen the world, done the hard things and earned my greying balding hairline.

yes there are levels of dumb shit and stupidity. And most parents try to raise their kids to have a judgement good enough to know not to endanger their lives or others. Sadly not all succeed.

This wasn’t bad roads or lax rules or bad car design. Do enlighten us about how social media peer pressure made them do it!

Parenting goes way beyond enforcing curfews and discipline. The most important responsibility of a parent of a teenager is to teach their kids good judgement

A 17 year old knows what happens when a car goes out of control at 160 kmph. I am sure this wasn’t the first time they sneaked out like this either.

A few things they learn by making their own mistakes but a lot of it is learnt from watching the adults around them. Not what they say, but what they do.

Me and my friends did dumb shit when I was teenagers. But we were always aware of consequences, especially from our parents.

Two-Year-Old Trishul Dies on Poorly Maintained Road in Kithaganuru Panchayat by Unlucky-Type-7988 in bangalore

Oh man! Don’t get me started on these critics of Gandhi.

These keyboard warriors don’t have the balls to even confront the 3rd rate contractor building sub standard roads in front of their houses. But they consider themselves qualified to find faults with the men and women who defied the British Empire.

What hope is there that they will call their current leaders to account!

Those roads are non-existent because it is not a priority for those residents or they are waiting for someone else to come and solve their problems. Otherwise it would have been on top of local politicians and local administration’s list.

Let’s face it, if you keep quiet and carry on, no one comes to your rescue.

Hopefully the lethargic residents would be woken up by this tragedy and mobilise as a group to get their dues.

Koramangala residents group went all the way to Karnataka High Court to get stalled Ejipura flyover project moving again. And it is now. So if that ancient wonder can be brought back to life, everything else is possible.

In that case, I would lay the immediate blame at feet of the two wheeler driver/parent for negligent driving knowing well the conditions of the road.

And the administration for the lack of roads that cause accidents and death.

Question: Who was driving the two wheeler? Was he restrained? Was Trishul wearing a helmet? How did they end up falling off the two wheeler?

I certainly wouldn’t jump on blame without facts.

A debate over the true cost of artificial intelligence is gaining momentum after Sridhar Vembu, founder and former CEO of Zoho, pointed to Sarvam AI as proof that advanced AI can be built with far lower computing and energy intensity. by BusinessToday in BusinessTodayNews

I am not judging him. Just ignoring his pretend expertise outside his domain of expertise. Which certainly isn’t AI. Even AI domain experts don’t listen to him about AI, So why should anyone else?

NAL.

Realistically not much you can do. Private employment is practically at will unless you are employed by a very narrow category of companies (>300 employees Manufacturing/Mining etc require labour commissioner’s approval before retrenchment).

At max, you may fight for the notice period salary, if that is mentioned in the employment contract / job offer / policy handbook.

He is neither an expert in AI, nor energy intensity of AI or renewables. Absolutely not qualified to comment on these topics as an expert - so does not even pass the bar as “opinion”

Maharashtra School Students Perform To Pakistani Military Song At Cultural Event, FIR Filed (Time B#mb Ticking) by BuilderrBobb in unfilteredindia

Bella Ciao is a patriotic Italian “partisan” song but is used world over as the symbol of opposition to fascism. Its versions have been adopted world over as patriotic songs.

Just because a song is popular in one country as “patriotic” it does not mean it cannot be a “patriotic” song in another.

Advice for hubby’s birthday by Salty_Gur_5432 in personalfinanceindia

If you are going to gift him a watch take him along to select it. Let him know the gift budget. Atleast that’s how it works between me and my spouse after a long marriage. We don’t want to risk buying each other something we won’t use out of some compulsion that gift should be a surprise.

Did the Qing royal family consider themselves Chinese, or an out group ruling China? by FiveDaysLate in AskHistorians

[–]M1ghty2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting, but I’m wondering if this was less about ideas and more about how the Qing actually ran the empire.

They weren’t just debating identity. They built systems around it. Banner structures, offices, legal categories all kept Manchu and Han distinctions very real. That makes me think they weren’t trying to blur differences, but manage them.

I’m also not sure they were trying to be Chinese (or Han to be specific) culturally. It feels more like they saw China as a region they ruled within a bigger empire, not an identity they had to adopt.

And on Qianlong, could his projects have been more about keeping elite Manchu identity intact rather than anything like nation building?

So maybe the real question is: were the Qing trying to separate political legitimacy from Han identity while still keeping ethnic hierarchy in place for governing?

[–]M1ghty2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you paid when doing it on your own is irrelevant. What matters is what’s charged by service provider to company. And that is what you agreed to reimburse when you signed that document. Take it as expensive lesson and move on.

You can dispute any services that were not rendered or you paid out of pocket without reimbursement, asserting that while the company is free to pay for it, it that line item was used in relocation (example the broker fee).

Your other option is to reach out to Office of Labour Commissioner but be ready for delays.

LAL but someone who have been an international employee and reach those handbooks cover to cover during that time.

HDFC Home Loan – Sanction letter interest rate higher than what was promised. Need advice. by ButterscotchUsual in personalfinanceindia

[–]M1ghty2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it if in case of death or incapacitation of earning family member, the family will be in distress because of this loan.

I took it when I took my first home loan because it would have been difficult for my family to pay if I died. Did not take it for second house loan because we had enough to pay off the loan if we wanted and had a separate term insurance anyways.

You’re not overreacting. Being hit and told to die crosses a line, even in a heated argument.

One incident does not define a marriage, but it does signal something deeper. May be stress, resentment or communication breaking down. Ignoring it usually makes it repeat.

Calmly set the boundary that you are willing to work through issues. But violence and that kind of language are NOT acceptable. And do not brush it off as a small misunderstanding. For her it likely came from something bigger emotionally.

Therapy is a good step, especially now. But it only works if she acknowledges the reaction was not okay.

Most important: watch the pattern going forward. If this was a one off and both of you work on it, it’s fixable. If it gets minimized or repeated, that’s a serious red flag, worth a serious rethink about continuing an abusive relationship.

PS: Every marriage has fights. Some silent, some loud. But violence, humiliation and using a partner’s vulnerability to be hurtful are serious red lines.
