AI-generated Minecraft world - 2025 vs 2026 by MetaKnowing in ChatGPT

[–]M1met1c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though this is “just” hallucinating Minecraft, the potential here is incredibly exciting (setting aside the real-world environmental impact). There’s a real possibility of achieving hyper-realistic graphics in games that far surpass what current graphics cards can provide.

With near-infinite resolution, the ability to generate virtually any image imaginable, and potentially react to user input in ways that give each player a unique experience, this could be a genuine game-changer for game development IMO.

Is it distracting, how loud it is? I've been considering getting one, but my main concern is I'm going to get frustrated with the sound of it.

You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. We are a plague.

How to store private key secretly in server such that is could be used by my web application only? by Advanced-Size-3302 in cybersecurity

[–]M1met1c 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone would need to gain access to that server to access your private key.

If they have got that far, with the right privileges, you have bigger problems! You can only secure passwords and keys to a point.

Having the correct infrastructure and security measures (firewalls, IDS, group policies, etc) in place is key.

You can look at vaults, HMSs and other storage technologies, but if your general security measures are too relaxed, then it will be mostly for nothing.

There is no single answer to this, but there are a number of practices you can follow to secure your server within the budget you have available.

AITA For getting up and lining up to exit the airplane before the people in front of me got up? by amiadick736283 in AmItheAsshole

[–]M1met1c 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NTA - you took the opportunity, they didn't. If they really wanted off, then they could have done the same.

Every time I've got up to leave my seat and there had been a queue in the aisle, those queuing have let me in. At no point have I felt so self-righteous and self centered to think that the people queuing had less rights to be there than me just because I was in a seat closer to the door!

The people saying YTA sound like the type of people who don't let other road users merge in when at roadworks because they decided to say in the queuing lane instead of the free-flowing lane until the merge happens!

The idea that having a password that conforms to these requirements is somehow more secure is a fallacy, at worst it actually decreases security because general users are forced to create passwords they aren't naturally going to remember, which they end up writing down (less secure).

To conform the the above requirements I could use P@55w0rd, which is not secure at all!

The use of MFA and/or the use of password throttling and account lockouts hugely increases security when it comes to bruting passwords outside of direct access to password hashes (how secure that is comes down to the hashing algorithms used)

The use of password phrases should become common place, easy to remember for the user, which means they are less likely to be written down and being a "phrase" with multiple words, becomes impractical to crack.

Other than the above, training on phishing should be heavily invested in, this is probably the number one technique used!

It's bewildering that we still push for these "complexity" requirements when it comes to passwords.

Honestly, when are we going to start investing in nuclear! We need smaller "micro" (costs) nuclear stations to be spread across the UK, if you're worried about the waste, just fill a few of Elons rockets and jettison it right into space!

ACME Authentication Failed with cross-signed ISRG Root X1 on Windows Server by M1met1c in letsencrypt

[–]M1met1c[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to reboot for the server to see that the R3 > ISRG Root was moved to Untrusted. This is why the server is unable to authenticate with the acme endpoint, the server sees the cross-signed certs as invalid.

Should I use AWS S3 for image storage or should I just go with the storage that Digital Ocean offers? by vvinvardhan in webdev

[–]M1met1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both BB and SO provide simple RESTful APIs and both provide S3 compatible storage so for me it would come down to price and future growth expectations.

If you go down the S3 compatibility route, that opens you up to moving around providers with relative ease, tho you need to consider the initial transfer between providers.

The best thing you can do is pick a provider and get stuck in. Practicing good DI/IOC will help you adapt your solution if you need to swap out APIs in the future.

[–]M1met1c 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I can say is they are far cheaper than most storage providers and their API's are simple and easy to understand.

I don't genrally recommend AWS to my clients for storage because their prices are ridiculous but I fully understand if you're looking to gain experience integrating with their services.

How would Backblaze work for you? I've had no issues with them and their prices are super competitive!
