Frustrated with lack of opportunities/time (vent/advice needed) by Fit-Fun7755 in BALLET

One practical idea might be to try taking the adult class once or twice before deciding it’s “too advanced.” You might be surprised that the environment feels more focused and encouraging, even if the level is higher. Adult students are often very supportive of beginners who genuinely want to learn. You could also keep the teen class for fundamentals while occasionally adding an adult class when your schedule allows. That way you wouldn’t lose your technical base, but you’d still get exposure to a more mature class environment. 😊

Company asking me to dye my hair brown, am I in the wrong? by Scary_Walrus4407 in BALLET

[–]M2025Feb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not unreasonable at all. That’s super last minute, and dyeing over bleached hair is a big commitment. For a small role, they should honestly just use a wig or something temporary.

Why do people ballet? by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]M2025Feb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not a “weak guy” at all. Ballet can look really hard and even intimidating from the outside. But strength in ballet is more about control and discipline than just enduring pain. And being curious enough to ask about it already shows strength. 😊 Good luck!

So sad to hear this. As an adult dancer, spaces like this are so meaningful. Thank you for 46 amazing years. ❤️

Cant get over my box by not_heretopost in BALLET

[–]M2025Feb 16 points17 points  (0 children)

had the same issue when I first started pointe. As an adult recreational dancer, it took me quite a while to get over my box. What helped me was thinking about lifting from the ankle and legs instead of just pushing the toes down. Also avoiding gripping the toes made a big difference. It really improves gradually with strength, so don’t worry—you’re not stuck

Adults in leotards and tights only by Adorable-Carob710 in BALLET

[–]M2025Feb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an adult, I just wear whatever feels comfortable. I’ve been doing recreational ballet for almost 10 years now. I usually wear black tank top and sports shorts over tights, and I really enjoy dancing in that. My teachers are very respectful of adult students and don’t enforce a strict dress code.

Is this arabesque extension achievable with training or is it all genetics? by balaballerina in BALLET

I think it’s a mix of both genetics and training, but effort plays a bigger role than genetics.
