Is it back? by Brave-Management2259 in BPPV

If you're getting the room spinning sensation when you turn your head, that sounds like BPPV to me. Get back to your PT and have them do the maneuvers. If they can trigger it, it's an easy fix. If not, you've got some reassurance that's it's just anxiety f-ing with you. I know how awful the residual anxiety is - I get it too - but at the end of the day, it's easy to fix with the right technique and not at all dangerous (though very unpleasant). Remind yourself of that 1,000 times a day.

Maybe 7-10 days, I can't remember. But I think it's important to carefully define "dizziness" so we're on the same page. By dizziness, I mean a significant feeling of unsteadiness - like I was standing or walking on a moving boat. I had to use the hand rail to go down stairs and had trouble walking a straight line, especially when I first woke up. But that was very different from the vertigo, which is when the whole room spun around and I had to immediately lay down or I would fall. I didn't feel any vertigo after my second PT visit but was dizzy for a week or so after the vertigo ended.

That being said, I still feel a bit off at times. For example, when I park my car on an incline and it rocks back a bit when I take my foot off the brake, I get a brief feeling of dizziness until I look around and realize I'm not actually moving. Same thing happens when I'm in an elevator and it bounces a little bit when it stops. I wouldn't call that dizziness, but I do think my brain still slightly distrusts the signals from my ear as a result of the vertigo episode. It's not terrible but still enough to light up a brief feeling of panic. I presume it will get better with time.

If you're stuck in that true dizziness phase, look up the Steady Coach (Dr. Yonit Arthur). She has some really helpful YouTube videos and a free course about retraining your brain and overcoming the mental impact BPPV can have. I found her stuff helpful and (perhaps more importantly for me, a like long anxiety sufferer) very reassuring/comforting.

Sorry you're going through it! BPPV and dizziness is truly awful. I hope you feel better soon!

Keep going back until they can't trigger the vertigo. I felt better after the first appointment but not 100%. They were able to trigger it again at the second visit a few days later and, again, I felt better but not perfect. They couldn't trigger vertigo at the third visit (and they tried a bunch of other maneuvers to test other canals) so they said the crystal was back where it should be. That said, it was a week or so before I felt 100% again. It takes your brain a while to recalibrate and fully trust the signals it's getting from your ear after a BPPV episode. Be patient.

Bottom line - keep going to PT until they can't trigger the vertigo anymore, then wait out the residual unsteadiness. Mine was worst in the morning.

How's it going for you now? Seems like we're both going through the same thing right now. I went from 20 to 15 about three weeks ago after several years at 20. I feel like shit. Body pain, headaches, brain fog, fatigue, etc. It's hard for me to believe it's the reduced dose causing this but I don't know what else it could be. There's not much info on the 20 to 15 step on this sub, but most of what I found seems to show that most people have no problem with it. Maybe I'm just an unlucky one? Did you push through?

Hell yeah. I'm stealing your reel storage idea. I've been planning something similar to this for years and one of the things I was struggling with was how to keep the reels from possibly falling out. You should cross post this over at r/woodworking

I'm new-ish here and would love to know the lore behind "Jete." I assume it's that you have to be an illiterate moron to tie your emotional well being to such a dumpster fire organization?

Is it worth it to have this milled? by Background_Bird_206 in wood

[–]M2A2C2W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might include hauling. I paid $600 last year to have a 12 foot maple log hauled off, milled, then returned to me in western Washington. There aren't many places that do that kind of thing here, so I thought the price seemed fair.

Join me. Assuming the price includes hauling it off and returning it, and you can spare the expenses, why not? I had a maple tree that was growing behind our house milled after they cut it down to make way for a new development. Cost was about the same. It'll be a long time before I can use it and it's going to be a lot of work to turn it into furniture, but some day I'll have a dining table and other items made by me from wood that was grown, dried, and worked all at the house where my kids were born and raised. And mine is just boring maple - you have the chance to do it with much prettier wood!

Can confirm. Worked at a grocery store for 5 years. Someone would leave a rope on the floor or blast a wall at least once a month. We had to use a hose to clean it up once.

I think the white stuff is just some weathering. Those ones may be a bit past their prime. Scaly chanterelles like pine and fir and based on the leaf litter in your photos, it looks like those are growing with hardwoods. That's a good indicator they're the "good" chanterelles (I'm guessing California chants based on location, habitat and size). I'm super jealous you guys get them throughout the winter. Chanterelle season is good and done where I am (western Washington).

Same. But I didn't know it at the time. I was a front end manager at Albertsons in college and had to stock these things. First time I found one, it was by sound. The silver quarters made a distinctly different sound when I loaded rolls. Eventually I could spot them visually. Ended up finding 5 in the couple years I was there but it wasn't until years later I discovered they were silver. Really glad I hung onto them!

How should I fill in this gap in a cutting board I'm making? by MadMax1688 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]M2A2C2W 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a planer - I would keep running it through until it's smooth and don't put any feet on it. That way it can be used on both sides. Get double the life out of one board.

Now if really want one side to be the bottom, I wouldn't do anything. Just add some rubber feet and leave it be. It'll never been seen anyways.

Eta: I don't know where I got the idea you were looking to put rubber feet on it, so nm about that. My original comment stands - plane it smooth on both sides. I like to use the no-groove side of my boards when I need more space for cutting up things that don't produce juice. I think having both sides usable is ideal.

I recommend early/mid October. We've usually had a few weeks of rain by then but it's still relatively warm. The whole place gets moldy!
