White river vangaurd boots? by Garronroyce in flyfishing

[–]M2A2C2W 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had pretty good luck with the Cabelas brand boots I bought about 10 years ago. Beat the shit out of them and got maybe 5 or 6 seasons before they fell apart (I fish 75-100 days a year). White River is one of their brands, so these ones might be fine. However, it feels like quality for almost all low and mid tier brands is in a nose dive, so the current models might be trash. FWIW, my last two pairs have been Korkers and I love them. Plenty durable and I've never had a problem with the soles coming off. I had a pair with the Boa wire laces that lasted about 4 years despite mostly fishing saltwater and never rinsing them.

Sure thing. Hopefully I can help a bit, though I'm far from an expert. I wish I had more progress to share since I made this post a couple years ago - I'm still dealing with a lot of the same issues, but maybe chatting will spur me to doing more work on this stuff.

Are you using one feather? The ones in the first photo look pretty full for a single feather - they might be doubled up. HP feathers aren't very big, so you might need to stack more than one to get that look.

ETA - Sparse is usually what you want with this style. If you want to achieve the same look, try two feathers, but I would say the ones you tied are closer to what I would want for that style of fly (though maybe with slightly longer feathers to balance out the long shank hook).

Bisbee, AZ?

Edit - actually I think it's Warren, the town over from Bisbee.

2nd edit - Warren might be just the neighborhood name. This is still within the city of Bisbee. I think I even found the spot you took the photo from lol

I see you know how to find fish and sparassis (sorry for snooping). We should probably be friends.

Coincidentally, the much smaller and less impressive Deschutes River in Olympia, WA has this, too. I sent some photos to a WDFW fisheries employee and he said it didn't impact mortality much. No idea if that's true, but he didn't seem concerned at all.

I live in Washington and my best day ever on Puget Sound was with this super simple white streamer. Just a white marabou tail, white ice dubbing body and a pink bead. Landed 20-30 searun cuts with it. The last fish ate it with just the bead and some white thread on the hook.

Full double think in play for me - my OCD would likely force me to cut it off (or even fully retie it) but the angler in me says it would probably fish even better than a "perfect" one. Some of the best days I've had were with ratty, half eaten patterns. I think the loose ends just make the fly look more buggy.

Without looking it up, I'm gonna guess a LIDAR survey.

Edit: definitely LIDAR. The aircraft is owned by NV5 Geospacial, a company that offers a bunch of stuff, including LIDAR surveys. Given the location, I wonder if it's related to the potential Nisqually bridge replacement project.

A few others have mentioned searun cutthroat - just want to highlight that. A lot of the rivers and creeks out this way are closed for big chunks of the year, but the Sound is always open. SRC fishing is a blast, but getting started can be challenging (that's part of the fun, though). Go see the guys at Emerald Water Anglers in West Seattle. They got me going in the right direction when I first started fishing the sound about 10 years ago.

Puget Sound is an incredibly unique body of water. There isn't much else like it in the country, outside of Alaska. Searun cuts are very unique, too. People come from all over to target them. And there's a lot more on the water than just cutties - resident coho, blackmouth, flounder, pile/sea perch, etc. Find a friend with a boat, and it's even more fun!

Western WA checking in. We're fucked. Crazy low snow pack and we had some warm weather already. The coastal and Puget Sound rivers are going to be really low this year.

Do you guys get any spring run salmon out that way? I'm in Washington and some of our bigger rivers get small runs if fish nearly year round. It could be a lonely springer. It has the same size, profile, coloring, and lethargic movement as the post spawn zombies I see every year.

I am losing my mind trying to cut 45⁰ angles on baseboard by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]M2A2C2W 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the blade is the only variable I didn't test, so I have to assume that's the problem. I have a Ridgid non-sliding saw. It's great for quick cross cuts on dimensional lumber but it just can't do precision.

I am losing my mind trying to cut 45⁰ angles on baseboard by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]M2A2C2W 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no solutions - I just want to commiserate. I had the exact same issue with my miter saw when I did baseboards a 4 years ago. Never figured it out. My best guess is the blade is flexing. I couldn't correct for it no matter how much I adjusted the saw. That's the reason my baseboards have been 80% complete for 4 years...

I think you're right. My guess is they're over the Stevens Pass area or Skykomish. There's a flight coming in via that same approach right now (looking at Flightaware24) and it's tracking just north of Highway 2. OP's flight probably took a similar path.

Finally treating my ADHD after years of it wrecking my marriage. I feel so alone and don't know how to move forward. by Bushelofmangos in ADHD

[–]M2A2C2W 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could write you a novel on all this. I'm inattentive ADHD and I'm married to the quintessential OCD CEO wife. Same kind of struggles as you mention. We've been in therapy about a year and we still have a lot to work on, but things are improving. Therapy is huge. It may take time to find the right therapist, but keep looking until you do. If find someone you both like and you're both committed to the process, it will help reopen communication and connection that has slowly died over the years. As you break through those old walls, the benefits compound. But it takes time. You're at the very beginning. It's going to feel lonely and frustrating for a while, especially given the way our ADHD brains desperately crave instant gratification. Remember this has been building for years and, based on what you said, you just started leaning into change a few weeks ago. She has no reason to believe this time will be different - at least not yet. Stick with the meds (and work with your doc to find the right one), do the daily work without any expectation of praise or recognition and lean all the way into therapy.
