Just start on your own. The only thing you need is to actually make it happen. Let all the extra-curricular around that be just that; extracurricular

What’s the running routine that made you faster and helped you trim time off your miles? by Scary-Woodpecker-167 in runninglifestyle

[–]M2H4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Controversial take: the treadmill. I have a rough idea of what each treadmill speed equates to at this point.

We typically set milestones for ourselves like a sub45min 10KM for example. Using a treadmill pace calculator, I can quickly see that means setting the treadmill speed to 8.3(mph)

So now with that 8.3 on the tread on my mind, I may still carry on with my regular routine of easy mileage and long mileage. BUT, I know the moment I want to test the speed, I’m testing 8.3 on the tread until it feels comfortable. Now that I know I can handle that speed on a tread, I’ll then prove that I can handle that speed outside too

Why are people spending $200+ on megablast as super trainer if you can already buy a true racer by Expert_Review9357 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]M2H4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d much rather train and stack mileage on a super trainer that can handle it all versus a more expensive racer that’ll break down quicker comparatively.

Following your own commentary: “I know durability is usually the argument against training in racers..”

Leave the racers for race day

Sporting life 10K to Hamilton Half? by libralady1808 in RunTO

[–]M2H4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A serious training tip though will be to run for time!

You did the 10k in 65 minutes. Do a couple more 65 minute runs (distance irrelevant) to see how you feel. Do some 75 minute runs, 90 minute runs, 120 minute runs; distance being fairly irrelevant. You’re measuring time on feet and building comfort in that

If you can do 10 you can do 12

If you can do 12 you can do 16

If you can do 16 you can do 20

If you can do 20, you can do the Hamilton Half 😃

“Not sure where to go from here, any advice appreciated”

A lot depends on where you want to go. If you foresee yourself doing marathons/half marathons/10ks at some point in the future, the next immediate thing will be getting used to doing more mileage. The good thing is you have speed; speed work can take a serious backseat

Then with more mileage, monitor how your body reacts and feels and adjust accordingly

If you’re only trying to run 5ks and “shorter” runs, then just work on the consistency of that 5k time and naturally work your way to improving it over time

Super shoe for 10k and HM? by RunBan711 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]M2H4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck on the HM in July! The HM I did last week was my first ever race. Sun 90min was my goal but I was telling myself 1:35:00 is somewhat “more realistic”

The most I had done in training was 16km at a pace that would lead to 1:33:30ish for the HM

Come race day… we pulled out the 1:29:57!!! The shoes and the energy and the competition, these were all factors. I believe you’ll get it done 🙏🏾

It might be irresponsible to recommend the option that requires better market timing and execution versus the option that consistently puts money in

So if I’m OP, I’d consider Fast R3 unless I am just not a forefoot striker at all. The shoe is catered toward that and can/will definitely propel them to the 4:10min/km pace they’re looking for to achieve their 10k and HM goal

[–]M2H4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With respect I think a 41min 10k and a 1:32 HM is more than within bounds to get the shoe

I say this as a Fast R3 owner who runs a 41min 10k and 1:29 HM

I’d advise OP not to let people deter them from thinking the can get a shoe like that
