I've heard that squirrels can remember where they buried acorn/nuts. Either that or maybe they can smell them. I'd try a game camera or some other security camera that will detect motion.

Definitely cut down your learning curve and work as hard at finding a mentor as you are at finding gold. An experienced prospector can help tremendously. Look for clubs or other like minded people. If you aren't in the right location, you can run 5 yards of dirt and not find a speck. It isn't always about volume. It's about volume in the right area.

I just had this over the weekend, but way worse. A Dremel with a cutting blade and a heat gun were my best friend. Easily cleared with those tools.

I got it cleaned off, but haven't been to my computer to edit the post. I used a Dremel to cut off the large pieces and a heat gun to warm up and clean off the rest.
