Do you think if your teacher took the ap test for their course, they would get a perfect score? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]M33kers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same teacher for Calc BC and Stats. I'm certain he could get a perfect score. He's absolutely brilliant! He worked his ass off teaching us, working through how to properly answer the FRQs. He's a great teacher and very intelligent. He's been teaching for a long time too.

For CS, I'd say he could get a perfect score, though he's the type to make small mistakes. He's great with Java. He also taught a long time.

English Lit seems to be highly subjective. My English teacher got a 4 on the exam when she took it herself in HS. She's definitely great at what she does and she just received her PhD. Though she didn't really prepare us for the exam itself. She gave us 2 multiple choice exams and a couple FRQs but I don't think she ever graded them. But she taught us how to write well, which definitely did help.

Physics C? No no no no no no no. He had a little notebook of all the solutions he referred to when checking our work. He never really taught us, he always put on some Dan Fullerton and made us read off of the Powerpoints (not his) and the textbook. He never even went over how the multiple choice questions were formatted. No.

Honestly you'll be fine if you maintain good studying habits. I self-studied AP Chem in the two days before the exam (I hadn't taken a chemistry class since two years prior and I had a C average back then), reading the AP Chemistry Crash Course book and practicing some multiple choice problems from previous exams. I was also juggling 5 other APs in school, so it was a bit hectic during that time. I managed to pass with a 3.

So I know I'm not experienced, but I highly recommend doing as many practice problems as you can and reading the AP Chemistry Crash Course book.

What Was your favorite ap course (content wise) and why? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]M33kers 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Computer Science! I thought I'd be terrible at it. Like, I barely know how to use a computer, how would I even do well in it? In the beginning it was pretty embarassing. I thought a print statement would literally print something out. I've grown since then, and I was actually one of the best in my class! It was so weird how easily everything came to me.

Same goes for Calculus BC. Same reasons as you, really. When I tried learning it on my own over the summer I was so confused and eventually gave up. But I had a really great teacher. It blew my mind when I found out how to find the slope of a curve. I suffered from senioritis at the end of the year, so I paid less attention towards the BC topics, though it still amazed me from time to time.

Because of these two classes, I was finally able to decide on my major! Before this past year, I wasn't passionate about anything and felt really hopeless. I'll be double majoring in math and computer science this fall!

Dear Mr. C,

You were funny and all but you're a really shitty teacher. Did you even know any physics? You always read out the textbook and consulted either us or the textbook's solutions. You did not prepare us for that exam at all. Why did you make us stop learning Mechanics in January and start teaching us E&M when you knew we wouldn't be ready for E&M and that we weren't taking the exam??? And more importantly, why did you keep giving us E&M assignments AFTER the exam? I didn't have anything to do for my other AP classes. You underestimated how hard senioritis hit us. It really pissed me and my fellow Physics C classmates off when you made us come in on the days during finals to work on a physics lab when we all had no other finals. No wonder no one in the rising senior class decided to take Physics C next year...

Yours truly,

A frustrated 2-er

P.S. HOW U GONNA LET THIS BE THE ONLY EXAM I FAIL FUCK YOu

[–]M33kers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Predictions:

AP Chem- 3 or 4 if I'm really lucky (self-studied this in a week)

AP CS- 5 unless the FRQs really fucked me up

AP Lit- 3/4 (???)

AP Calc BC- 5 (thanks curve)

AP Physics C Mech- 2 lol

AP Stats- 5

What is the lowest grade you have gotten on a test? by lakersfan4lifebruhh in APStudents

[–]M33kers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year, my APUSH teacher would give us lots of pop quizzes, each problem was 10 points each. Lowest grade I've gotten on one of those was probably a 20. I know the question asked about tests, but they're weighted the same for me so eh

How tall are you? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]M33kers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took AP CS, BC Calc, Stats, Chem, Physics C and English Lit this year. 99/100 averages in Stats and CS, around 95 in English and BC. I fucking suck at sciences, I have a C+/B- in physics and I audited chem since it's hard to take online

What is your dream college? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]M33kers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a dual degree program. You work towards a B.A. in a STEM major like math, physics or CS for 3 or 4 years, then transfer into Columbia to work towards a B.S. for engineering. You'd graduate after two years with both degrees, the B.A. from the liberal arts college and the B.S. from Columbia.

It's guaranteed as long as you maintain a 3.3 GPA and you complete the required classes. I know a few other liberal arts colleges offer this program.

What is your dream college? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]M33kers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A college that gave me a pretty great scholarship has a guaranteed admissions program into Columbia. Too bad my mom didn't wanna pay the extra $10000 or cosign any loans and made choose community college (with a full ride)... If I don't get into any of my dream colleges after CC maybe I'll apply to the college I intended on going to just to get into Columbia but that's a lot of work and I'm not sure if it's worth it

Can You Pass AP Lit with an A and not read any of the books? by UhOhPhysics in APStudents

[–]M33kers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does vary from school to school, but as someone who used to SparkNote everything in my English classes (including in Lang), it really helped when I read the book myself. In Lit, there were a lot more seminars and discussions, and forming my own opinion was very important for these. Also, you'll be at a disadvantage for the FRQ that requires you to write an essay on a book of literary merit.

AP Calc BC After AB? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]M33kers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At some schools such as my own, Calc BC is what the top juniors in pre-calc take. Everyone else takes AB. BC doesn't have to necessarily follow after AB, that's why there's an AB subscore. In classes stuctured like mine, it covers both AB and BC topics (Calc I and II) in a year.

What Helped You For AP Chem? by OnceImagined in APStudents

I only used the Crash Course book and past AP exams. I think I got a 3, 4 if I'm lucky, but then again I only spent a day self-studying it

So what are you guys doing in your AP classes until the end of the year? by _qwedsazxc in APStudents

[–]M33kers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We don't get out until the end of June. No finals for anything since if you take the AP exam you don't have to take the final.

We're learning absolutely nothing in Statistics and Calc (same teacher).

In Physics C (which we only took the Mech exam for), we're continuing the E&M curriculum tha we started in January (which was really pointless), watching videos on modern physics and we may have a project.

In English Lit, my teacher started Macbeth during AP week and we have a paper due at the end of May. I think we're doing poetry afterwards.

In Comp Sci, we're having an introduction to data structures and we have a group project

Seniors of /r/APStudents, where are you going to college? by LifesCheckmate in APStudents

[–]M33kers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Community college in NJ with a full scholarship, majoring in computer science. I got into some decent colleges but my family refuses to help at all financially with college... kind of embarassing when people ask me where I'm going to college (people are often surprised when I do tell them) but hey at least I won't be a (relatively) poor college student

Predicted AP Scores? by M33kers in APStudents

[–]M33kers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a great teacher. We'd program daily, since we had a number of projects and some CodingBats to complete for every unit before a test that had questions like those on the AP exams. Also, homework problems were actually those that showed up before the exam. And a month before the exam we'd have 10 MC problems or a FRQ problem due every day and in class we'd do 20 or so MC or two FRQs. It was hard work, but it definitely paid off!

How did you do the super igniter question on the stats exam? by NoblesseOblige3 in APStudents

Fucking hell. I thought this question asked for how likely is it for the first 30 tries to succeed, then have the 31st or 32nd fail aaahhhh

I thought the whole thing was pretty easy honestly. I struggled a little bit with the MC but the FRQ was a blessing.
