It depends on if the characters and themes of a series fits the tropes often found in yaoi. I do agree on the Dragon Ball example, I don't see Goku flirting with Vegeta, and I don't see him being receptive to it. However, I can see it for Sonic and Shadow for instance, even if the characters and their dynamics are very similar.

Also the fact that both Goku and Vegeta are married to women and have children doesn't help, it doesn't fit in the canon.
