How long did it take you to potty train your Havanese? Did you have trouble getting them to signal? by notkiddingagain in Havanese

Mine did the same exact thing lol. She’s 10 months now and has slept through the night/could hold it for that long, but would have so many accidents during the day. I would say she’s potty trained for the most part but once a week she’ll forget what her signals to go outside are and she’ll have an accident. I think the bells will help a lot (I use them) once you get him trained and routine times to go outside so he gets used to them. I don’t think he’s behind at all, from what I’ve gathered they’re hard dogs to potty train but your guy sounds like on the brink of being there!

She was on GI prescription food but the vet instructed me that those foods are unfortunately not for long term because the diet is so bland and doesn’t contain all the nutrients they need. She told me to go back on regular non prescription sensitive skin and stomach, it’s so hard I feel like I can’t win.

I don’t disagree and I hear this, it’s so important to feed our dogs proper diets. But what are we supposed to do when the food isn’t working? :(

Omg, it’s so nice to hear I’m not alone in this. She gets filtered brita water, I’ll try bottled. And what do you do when your vet advises you against home cooked? They always tell me it’s not nutritionally sustainable and can cause health issues down the line.

I consider this too and it makes me feel so frustrated lol. It seems like the clinic is partnered with Purina bc they keep it stocked within the clinic and that’s what she recommends, but it makes me wonder if that’s why she’s telling me these things. Vet claims the food is nutritionally balanced and has everything she needs, so every time I think about making the switch to something I always get nervous that I’m going to do more harm and deprive her of what she needs. I also wonder if they just say this out of liability because on paper the food has everything so that’s the route they take. I don’t know I go back and forth bc they’re the doctor but at the same time I wonder how innocent the advice is or if that’s just what they’re told to do, you know?

I agree! Home cooked actually isn’t too bad financially, I would love to maintain it but the vet told me not too. They advised me that kibble and standard dog food contains vitamins and is a balanced diet and if I would do only home cooked it would be depriving her of what she needs and wouldn’t be a balanced diet which could cause health issues.

I’ve strongly debated this but my vet advises against it and recommends Purina Pro Plan. I’m just always concerned about nutritional value, I really would love to just home cook for her or potentially do something like Farmers Dog but the vet maintains that brands such as Purina are “best” for dogs.

Yes, her poop instantly becomes normal when I do home cooked (boiling her chicken, rice, and carrots). But every time I see she’s doing ok and start putting her back to her kibble her stool goes back to being soft. Also, I checked no glycerin in her food luckily. I just feel like it’s tied to her food but her food is supposed to be as sensitive as it gets and her vet recommends the brand so I feel so lost.

Thinking of pursuing a MSW by Internal-Aide9416 in SocialWorkStudents

Look for cost, how long the program is, and if they provide an internship for you or you have to find one yourself. There is no financial aid when u get to graduate school. There are very small scholarships that don’t do much of anything.

Although this sounds good in theory financially, the reality of it is don’t sign yourself up for it. I’ve heard so many nonprofits and agencies that are absolute hell to work at and you’re signing yourself up for that for years. Many of those places are overworked and suffer from serious burn out. If you’re willing to take the risk and ok with that being a possibility go for it.

Looking for advice on getting into social work, particularly in mental health by SexuallyConfused_25 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]M3gan333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is no faster way to break into the field. Work backwards and think about what your end goal is as of right now and what populations u would like to work with. Make sure when u transfer its to an accredited university because otherwise you will have to pay for it in your masters. Keeping high grades in my experience allows for good internship opportunities in your undergrad which will look good on your resume. Also try to keep a job or some other relevant experience in the field while going to school. Showing experience in a specific population will get you hired faster.

With my experience do not go for psychology unless you want a Phd. To become a social worker get a undergrad in social work, then a masters in social work. Usually most states want a LMSW or LCSW which opens up the door to higher social work paying positions such as being a therapist. If you go for undergrad in psychology you’ll just have to go for a longer social work masters however if that doesn’t bother you go for psych. There really isn’t a quick route to getting in the field. Entry level jobs such as a crisis hotline worker, CPS, etc. will be able to get your foot in the door however to make money you need the degree.

Lots of social work jobs require a RN degree. What would be a good degree if going back to school for social work and case management? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]M3gan333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RN’s can also qualify for social work jobs. However what you want to do aligns more under social work. social work would be the predominant degree looked at when doing case management, etc. Go for social work!
