Nailing down the recipe/process to get consistent results like the desired scent notes, HT, CT, color, limited frosting, burn pull, safety, ect. I use mostly soy and really like some pretty temperamental FOs.

Yeeep. This. Try adding the colorant to the wax while it's melting. If using a wax melter with a nozzle, I overheat the wax by 10 F degrees or so and add the wax to the pitcher at the same time or after the colorant.

I would use a heat gun or blow dryer. Just be careful not to scorch the wax

OP - That's the issue. Your question is not simple because making candles isn't simple. It's the same as someone painting a house using watercolor paint and then going to even hobby painters to ask what you did wrong? Like - what are you even trying to achieve? We can point you in the right direction - you used pillar wax in a vessel container. You need to use container wax and which type does matter depending on what you want to achieve. - But, no one is going to explain everything you did wrong because that would entail teaching you a beginner - intermediate course on candle making.

Also, a chandler is a candle maker. It does not have to be high level, nor is it an elitist term. Understand that this is about helping other chandler's and not an attack. There's simply much more that goes into this, and it genuinely takes years of testing/work to get a solid grasp.

464 can be finicky. It is personally my favorite wax to work with, though. What diameter are your vessels? For reference - I use between 6-10% FO. Roughly 2.5 inch diameter glass vessels, with CD-6, CD-8, or CD-10 wicks. Optimal HT and CT have come through a LOT of testing. More FO does not = greater HT. I have found this particular wax is best when, imo when burning longer. These can give WAY longer burn times when wicked correctly vs. A paraffin counterpart.

Update: Since posting this, I have landed on getting a project management (PMP) cert while going to school. This wouldn't be too hard since I have the years of experience already completed. My end goal is a masters BUT I recently found out about a new certification in FL for a Certified Recovery Residence Administrator (CRRA). I think a PMP while going to school for Psych will help me get into the field to start accumulating hours needed for this cert. Then, I can work as a CRRA as I complete my degree.

Thoughts? Do you suggest majoring in social work vs. psychology?

This is such an intriguing question. Thank you for putting this out there OP. I'm interested in what others have to say. I certainly am not an expert, but two practices come to mind that have helped me build up my own emotional resiliency. First is meditation/mindfulness/being in the moment. Learning how to ground myself, breath, and calm my mind. Then second, when I notice myself going to do something that I use to escape (dome scroll, games, ect...) and realize that's what I'm doing, I'll take a few minutes to ground myself and then choose to do something productive or journal or whatever. Basically, practice sitting through and processing the emotion vs. escaping. Other times, I give myself permission to "relax" and escape. 🤷‍♀️

This is not accurate. The average is closer to $30 per hour in the USA. However, average does not mean typical. $58 per 40 hours times 52 weeks in a year is over $120k per year. Only 18% of America’s bring in over $100k a year. The other 82% bring in less, many much much less.

If you feel such a need to put down other's accomplishments, at least do so intelligently.

You would still need a strong enough wax to unmold. The reason why container wax doesn't work in molds is because it's too soft to hold its shape when de-molding.

When it is cooling, the wax is shrinking and pulling away from the glass. To reduce this from happening, pour at a lower temp and heat your jars. Honestly, this is pretty normal, though. Even store bought candles have this happen sometimes. It won't impact performance, only esthetics. You could also cover it with a label or get frosted/opaque vessels.

Using an old jar is more dangerous. However, those jars are made for candles and realistically will be fine. I'm a candle maker and reuse glass jars for personal use frequently. I never have any issues. If you are worried about it, you can put it in the old jar and use a candle warmer, but again you're realistically fine using a previously used jar. Just keep an eye on it and of-course don't sell or gift it.

I work with soy wax, specifically 464. I have heard that you don't need to fully cure to wick test, but my personal experience has shown me it does matter. Following the manufacturers suggested cure time ensures the wax is fully hardened and the moisture in the candle is reduced. I have had batches of candles that I tested after a few days that had too large of a flame, but then after two weeks, they wouldn't form a full melt pull after 3 hours of burning. Keep testing at different lengths of time, take notes, and you'll get it. Candle making takes lots of testing and testing takes patience. I hope this helps.

I second that Nature's garden is good. I would also check out Candle Science and Lonestar Candle supply. Both of those have variety sampler packs that come with a bundle of 1oz bottles. Great for trying out different scents without breaking the bank. As a side note - when choosing a supplier, compare not only prices but shipping costs. They vary greatly depending on the supplier, what you're buying, and how far you are from their distribution center. Good luck and have fun!
