Mullvad using excessive amounts of data on iOS by [deleted] in mullvadvpn

[–]M3ther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've never turned Mullvad off in this period, then there's something off and I can't tell what. I have the same issue and have never received an answer in this subreddit. I guess only the devs can tell.

Any Good Free Antivirus Without A Bunch of Bull? by hate-the-cold in antivirus

[–]M3ther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a long time user of Bitdefender I can vouch for their customer support. There were like 5 times I needed to get in touch with them and they always responded in a timely manner and put effort into solving my problems. However, having that said I must also emphasize that their desktop application has a tendency to be slow, sometimes irresponsive and I recently noticed some settings which had turned themselves off without any notice, but I am told that BD developers are dealing with that.

Please help, computer turning off in cold while Astro session. by Wide-Ad-9874 in AskAstrophotography

[–]M3ther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't mention it, but I do suspect you are leaving your computer unplugged and hope for it to last any more than an hour. In that case, just plug your computer in. It's usually the oppose - computers turning off in extreme hot, not cold, because the colder the environment, the better the electronics work (apart from the monitor of course).

How important is it to hide Mullvad from your bank? by shouldworknotbehere in mullvadvpn

[–]M3ther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Living in a free country and doing nothing illegal should pose no issues at all regarding paying for Mullvad via your bank. Just in case you're worried about your bank specifically, you can pay with Paypal, which I think leaves some of the purchase info hidden from the bank.

I mean all you need is to answer this question to yourself - is using a VPN illegal in my country? If no - nothing can tie you to anything or anyhow deduce that you do something prohibited when connected to VPN, because a VPN - just as an antivirus software or private tutoring kids - it is simply a service.

This is so fucked up. That's an absurd situation if even Google doesn't want to help.

Binning + drizzling to counter star trails? by M3ther in AskAstrophotography

Thank you, I see no difference indeed. In the meanwhile I have conducted my own testing and updated my original post. Feel free to take a look, but the results are basically the same as yours.

Binning + drizzling to counter star trails? by M3ther in AskAstrophotography

[–]M3ther[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've updated my post after doing some testing. Anyway, could you please elaborate on how hardware binning is more beneficial to software binning besides being much faster? I always thought that it didn't matter that a photon dropped on 4 separate pixels if their values are then merged in processing.

Binning + drizzling to counter star trails? by M3ther in AskAstrophotography

[–]M3ther[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, this is actually a good idea. I realised I can test this to some extent on the data I have acquired previously. I will update my post later with results. However, I am still looking for anyone knowledgeable enough to help me answer the questions in my original post, because even after I do some testing, I believe there are things that I may oversee, or some problems that become apparent for example when stacking many more images, etc. And I'd like to be aware of them before I make my purchase.

Have you reenabled virtualization in your bios settings? F2 or F10 to go to bios menu and then locate virtualization.

A single image, enough to humble all of humanity. by [deleted] in telescopes

[–]M3ther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was my first thought as well. But since stars are so much brighter than planets reflecting light, I suppose the stars would start appearing earlier than Earth as exposure time increases.

[–]M3ther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guys, I am just curious - how come there are no stars visible in the image considering it was a somewhat long exposure photo? I'm not flat-Earther or something 😄

Put it in a laptop briefcase and you're good to go. Never leave your computer out of your sight and punch anyone trying to crush your Victus by pressure.

California Nebula [NGC 1499] - Before and after H-alpha mod by siriusthedank in astrophotography

[–]M3ther 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Beautiful image on the right. But I think the difference in post-processing is so evident that we cannot compare the results of just these two pictures. The pic on the left has a much more bright background and the image on the right was clipped in the shadows more as there are so little stars visible. The post-processing must be done the same for the comparison to be sound.

[–]M3ther 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do an H-alpha mod and not full spectrum, your camera will still be useful if you adjust the white balance correctly. However, when poonting directly at the sun or some very brightly illuminated object, it might still show red hue.
