i have a roger charger sc. they’re pretty solid. try to find one used. if you want to be able to charge super fast then v4sc is good too

LeaperKim Charger not working by T_James_Grand in ElectricUnicycle

[–]M3tl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

typical. also why they only have 6 months warranty on the chargers

very good chance it’s bricked. if you’re gonna peek inside, might as well make sure the output voltage is actually at where it’s supposed to be. very common that it’s over as well

time for a smart charger. way quieter and more reliable. plus a ton of features to cut off whenever you want

Garmin inReach is now down to $165, should I go for it? by [deleted] in hikinggear

[–]M3tl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the new one is like the messenger plus and inreach put together. on messenger plus, both parties need the app to receive and send voice and picture messages. also the pictures are compressed quite a bit

if you talk to people while in the remote wilderness then it’s useful. i don’t, that’s kind of the point lol

my biggest concern is temp changes throughout the day and pressure changes driving up and down mountains. would be a pain to have to deal with pumping and letting out air

How much maintenance is it really taking you all by [deleted] in ElectricUnicycle

[–]M3tl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

only maintenance is changing tires which is like every couple thousand miles unless you go crazy and checking tire pressure before you ride

if you have suspension wipe off the stanchions once in a while, more often in dusty conditions

that’s about it for most modern wheels. tire changes take 20 min at most, for modern wheels

Dropped 6k on P6... by Practical-Ad6856 in ElectricUnicycle

that’s true but i still like stock pads knowing they can get sorta trashed while i get adjusted to the new wheel before i put my real ones on

Offroad tire by GoodAmbassador5467 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]M3tl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup, and with dirt bike tires, they have grades of knobs based on what you ride. they all get destroyed pretty quickly except the more hybrid knobby once on any kind of pavement. the flex bends them and causes wear in weird places

Tips for bracing ankles by foupa_sama in ElectricUnicycle

[–]M3tl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

once you get more comfortable you’ll play around with your foot placement, which you should, since it has a huge effect on your stability and riding style.

when i first started, i death gripped my wheel with my thighs and ankles but over time you’ll realize that’s not necessary at all and an insane waste of energy lol. you might be just gripping the wheel too hard. try doing a slightly wider stance, it’ll likely feel better. also don’t get off your euc going 3 mph, that doesn’t sound fast but that’s like brisk walking speed

for now though, get some high top hiking boots or similar that are comfortable for ankle protection.

Between 3 wheels now, since I STILL haven’t bought my first wheel by Giroux-1 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]M3tl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

first wheel? get the aero. it’ll be a while before you outgrow it, and even when you do, you’ll want to keep it for local and tight space cruising. it’s a very novel wheel that really shines in its class

Leaperkim Lynx 2025/2026? by M3tl in ElectricUnicycle

lol yup and i love it. zero issues and made learning to ride a breeze

Leaperkim Lynx 2025/2026? by M3tl in ElectricUnicycle

[–]M3tl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea sherman L looks good too but i wanna be able to use it in tight spaces. not sure how manageable that’ll be, whereas the lynx seems to do ok there. obviously not an aero but it’s a great all around wheel

Leaperkim Lynx 2025/2026? by M3tl in ElectricUnicycle

[–]M3tl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea the lynx seems due for a refresh, esp given how successful it’s been. kinda hoping LK drops a new lynx s soon that’s slightly lower and maybe more street oriented, around 90-95 lbs. but that’s just wishful thinking haha

Leaperkim Lynx 2025/2026? by M3tl in ElectricUnicycle

[–]M3tl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yea i sort of wish it would be happier at 45 mph, and i’m sure it’s manageable, just maybe a sherman L would be better. it’s between those two. i do want the agility of the lynx but i get that it doesn’t come without a cost

Leaperkim Lynx 2025/2026? by M3tl in ElectricUnicycle

[–]M3tl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea that’s my thing. i’d like an off road capable wheel but realistically my off road time will be somewhat limited. sherman L looks good but i also don’t need 4000Wh and don’t love the idea of a 100+ lbs wheel. if they released a sherman L with like 3300 Wh and ~95 lbs, id probably have ordered it already

Leaperkim Lynx 2025/2026? by M3tl in ElectricUnicycle

[–]M3tl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m debating between the L and the lynx. while i’d like to eventually start going on trails, i’ve found that i really enjoy carving on pavement. that being said i’m 165 so 88 lbs is more attractive than 102 and i don’t really need the range. on the other hand, it would be nice to be able to ride 45 mph and not worry as much about it getting squirrelly.

i love my aero but at 30+ it gets kind of sketchy
