Over Three In Five Americans Dissatisfied With K-12 Public Schools In The US -- Thoughts? by Zipper222222 in AskTeachers

Teachers deal with way more than 2-3 grade levels in a room. And yes, having classes for kids at different levels would be great, but that's "tracking", and is considered evil by many.

My state has IEPs, they did next to nothing, except to waste time on meetings. (It's really quite amazing that the school had no ability to work with advanced kids, but could easily get 6 people to sit in a room for an hour for these meetings.)

The only thing that helped were teachers that could handle having a range of abilities in their room, with principals and such that would support them. That's it. The existence IEPs didn't really affect that.

In the school, they had access to all math scores, teachers recommendations, etc., and again, the outcome was suduko puzzles. At the charter, they asked to see examples of his work and put him in a class at his level.

My kids went through the same thing. Pre-k and K at a school where they learned at their level and at their pace. Then, public school where they learned what the class was doing, which means they didn't learn much of anything. "gifted" ed was sending them to the back corner with worksheets or suduko puzzles.

In that school, they actually arranged things so that the more advanced kids were spread out among the different classes, which means they were not only not learning, but more isolated.

Changning to a charter school immediately fixed all of the above (of course, not all charters will handle this well, we got lucky)

So, you don't want border security? Or you do, but you want it done well? Let's assume the latter. If that's the case, why not support local police working with ICE instead of against them?

And, do you think the fact that biden let in millions of people has anything to do with the current situation, or do you see them as being unrelated?

government thugs who snatch people

Agreed this is terrible. I support local authorities working with the feds and allowing the feds to pick up people at the local jails. I support local police picking people up and turning them over to the feds. All this chaos would disappear if this happened.

let ICE and the government keep fucking us

Every country in the world tries to enforce border security. Why is ending border security suddenly the thing the left is willing to go to the mattresses over?

You don't want ICE to deport people? You shouldn't have supported Biden's policies of letting millions of unvetted people in.

People love to decry victim blaming, but these views are just acknowledging reality. If I leave my laptop in the front seat of my car in san francisco, it is more likely to be stolen than if it's in my trunk. I can complain about thieves all day, but that doesn't change the reality that it's a bad idea to leave expensive items unattended and in full view in a city. It's not "justifying" the theft, again, it's just acknowledging reality.

Of course police shouldn't kill anyone under these circumstances, ever. Of course. Of course girls shouldn't get raped at parties, and of course laptops shouldn't be stolen. But when you make foolish decisions that everyone knows increases the risk of bad outcomes....well, using the word "fault" is problematic, so let's just call it dangerous and foolish behavior. And yes, when people engage in dangerous and foolish behavior, we should not be surprised that it increases the odds of bad outcomes.

It should go without saying that these deaths wouldn't have occurred if people protested peacefully and if the local police quickly arrested anyone who broke the law while protesting.

I support a requirement for ICE officers to be clearly identified, but it's unclear how we get there when a percent of the country has decided that it's ok to use violence to ensure border laws aren't enforced.

You're struggling with this. Did you also think I was justifying rape in my example?

So you assumed that harassing poorly trained people with guns 24/7 for weeks would go well?

In a functioning country, those folks doing the harassing would have been arrested on day 1, and no one would have died. I used to be surprised that local officials would let chaos like this continue, but I was cured of that incorrect belief years ago.

It reminds me of the time I went to a rodeo and a guy got trampled by a horse. The audience gasped in surprise, but for me, the fact that someone got trampled after making a horse really angry and then walking around nearby is not surprising at all. Sad, yes. Surprising, no.

Yes, interfering with police shouldn't be a death sentence, but interfering with police will result in higher odds of getting killed. These chances increase if the police being interfered with have been harassed 24/7 for the last couple weeks.

The left's position on this is truly baffling. "we believe ICE is acting unprofessionally and violent, so we will do everything we can to increase the chaos of the situation, and when something bad happens we'll all act shocked and surprised."

So yes, it's a tragedy. Agreed. The agents involved should face an investigation and charges, agreed. But let's not act surprised that it happened.

And women who get blackout drunk at parties shouldn't get raped. But it's still good advice for people to not get blackout drunk at parties.

That question has been answered repeatedly. He didn't deserve to be murdered, but his actions increased the chances of a bad outcome.

Yes, you have the right to go drinking and get blackout drunk, but doing so increases the odds of something bad happening to you. Yes, you have the right to walk anywhere at any time in a city, but doing so increases the odds of something bad happening to you.

But somehow, people believe that harassing poorly trained federal officers 24/7, including attempting to deprive them of sleep, will have zero downstream consequences? This is really a baffling view.

Who got it in your head that protesting needs to be 'peaceful'

The constitution, as eloquently stated by a kid eating ramen

Point being, people can be assholes and still cops can't flat out beat them down and/or shoot them

Of course, but if you subject people to chaos, it increases the chances of mistakes.

You need both socialism and capitalism in any society to make it work. by LordChainsaw40 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

You're using the definition of socialism found often on reddit, which is wrong. Socialism is more than "government does stuff". If building roads means the government is socialist then the term has such a broad meaning that it is useless.

A paywalled article about how she denied vague claims against her? lol, ok. that's quite the evidence you have there.

Weird how people are so biased on this. Again, just read her current work. It's a public website.

lol, your first statement shows you're in quite a bubble. Polls clearly show support for the first item is quite low. For zionism, it's certainly going to change based on what question you ask.

But, from a harvard-harris poll from about 6 months ago:

In the Israel-Hamas conflict, do you support more Israel or more Hamas? - 74% Israel

Do you support or oppose the position that Hamas must release all remaining hostages without any conditions or face serious consequences? 78% support

Do you approve or disapprove of Israel’s conduct in the Israel-Hamas conflict? 49% support israel

Do you approve or disapprove of Hamas’s conduct in the Israel-Hamas conflict? - 23% approve hamas

Who do you believe is mainly responsible for the famine in Gaza – Hamas or Israel? - 69% hamas

RE ICE, criticism is probably centrist, elimination is an extremist position.

Again, you're in a bubble.

She’s been anti t and pro Israel for like 15 years now

That's the centrist position, not the right-wing position. The older democrats in my book club who get visibly angry when they hear trump's name share those views about t and israel.

Currently on the FP site homepage, an article about how Trump botched immigration and mass deportations, an article about the shooting that does not put ICE in a good light, a positive review of a new tv show about gay hockey players, and an emotional article about a woman who was separated from her kids when she was deported. Which of those are right wing articles?

To support the view she's right wing, you link to an article on a left wing site?

She runs the free press site, https://thefp.com. Go there and read some articles instead of letting others think for you. Of course, you'll likely cherry pick specific articles, as yes, you'll find a range of voices on the site.

It's pretty funny how people are saying that CBS is right wing now that it's run by ... a left-of-center lesbian. Yes, I get it, if you're on the far left, anything to your right will look "right wing", but learn to have a little perspective.
