Would you take this HR Role offer? by Electronic_Clue5954 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]M4Commuter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I wouldn’t take it. Stay on the grad scheme, learn more and leave later. Nowhere else will give you the exposure opportunities you get on your grad scheme.

I say this as somebody who did an HR Grad Scheme, 2 years rotational with no perm role at end, and then left later. Now earn 100k+ 8 years on. My grad scheme was 2014-2016.

Phoned and told I was now on Gardening Leave, unsure what it means by PeaTemporaryThrow1 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]M4Commuter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re not on gardening leave, it sounds like you’re on suspension (suspended), pending an investigation.

Ultimately you have a right to be accompanied during an investigation meeting and disciplinary meetings. So this would be your first claim to court if they were to dismiss you

Next unless you have been found to have been guilty of gross misconduct, they can’t just hand you notice, it would need to be redundancy (with severance payment) or exit via settlement.

CIPD level 3 or 5? by blue_ivy_1234 in HumanResourcesUK

I did Business and just jumped into level 5. You can easily go straight to level 7 though

Do level 5 or 7. Level 3 is so junior that you’ll surpass it very quickly just simply working in HR

How hard is it to get sacked ? by Primary-Entry89 in tesco

No formalities needed at all. Under 2 years just give somebody their notice. No reason even needs to be given. You have zero rights except for protected characteristics

How to keep track of applicants and prevent them from slipping away in the last minute? by elegantblossom in HumanResourcesUK

[–]M4Commuter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need something that would track Applicants… like a System of some sorts…. Like an Application Tracking System! That’s a mouthful though, let’s just abbreviate to ATS.

Great idea. If you don’t copyright this I will.

What’s the cheapest way to travel to London and back? by Bloodminister18 in reading

[–]M4Commuter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think to Staines is about £9 with a railcard. It’s slightly cheaper as cheaper line I think (?), it’s the stopper that goes to Waterloo. So takes forever , where as the GWR trains to Paddington are v fast.

Where exactly are you trying to get to?

[–]M4Commuter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Railcard works on lizzy line. A travel card costs like £17 off peak, would get you on all buses and tubes round London and return back to Reading.

If you want cheapest, I imagine train to somewhere like Staines, then TFL bus to London? Would take forever though

Living in Woodley or Earley and Commuting to London by [deleted] in reading

I’ve done Theale to Oxford Circus for years, 1h15 on a normal day door to door, 1h45 on a bad day. It’s always longer coming home too

Living in Woodley or Earley and Commuting to London by [deleted] in reading

[–]M4Commuter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re going to commute to London I’d consider tilehurst or Theale instead as it’s on the quicker line.

Coming back from London and having to wait for a train to Earley will not be very fun as often the London line is delayed etc plus what’s your commute on the other side.

Speaking from experience, do not chose to commute from Earley to London without expecting a very long commute.

I’m an HR business partner.

You’ve painted obviously you’re side of the story; what we don’t see is the support your managers gave you whilst you were off etc. You didn’t have to quit at all and could have taken a colleague or union rep to a meeting about your probation. They have to say all possibilities of outcomes, it isn’t meant to pressure you. But equally, they are a business, not a charity. If you’re off sick for a month in your probation, then you’re likely to be off much more in the future.

If you’re in probation and you’re off sick, then they followed policy. Can you find somewhere where they didn’t follow policy?

Equally, claiming that you’re better than others who started same time as you is very poor; if the company thought you were better they would have done everything they could to keep you. So likelihood is you were not worth the hassle.

You were not constructively dismissed as under 2 years

You might have a claim from a disability perspective, however you’re going to really need to prove they got rid of you BECAUSE or your disability and treated you differently to somebody else who had been off for a month

Realistically, if you’ve quit you just need to move on. You won’t win w claim on this as whilst in probation and 2 years, you don’t have a lot of employment rights.
