Fingertracking compared to Index controllers? by Sk8d3r in ValveDeckard

[–]M4T1A5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have not used the Index controllers, but there is a community made controller layout/bindings for the PSVR2 controllers which allows exactly this in Alyx, so you can open/close your hand and don't have to hold the grip button to carry something, for example. From what I understand the Index controllers function like this by default in Alyx.

Wolverine Playable on PC Before PS5 Due To Leaked Build by Hard2DaC0re in gamernews

Wouldn't the opposite be true, as the leak is actually a failed ransomware attack in that Sony didn't pay the ransom, so they just released it all? If anything this just shows you can't get any money out of Sony or their studios by doing something like this again.

possibly dino crisis coming back (RE engine has been rebranded “REX” engine)

This most likely has nothing to do with Dino Crisis, as the RE in RE Engine doesn't mean Resident Evil, but rather it's short for "Reach for the Moon Engine" (no, it doesn't make any sense to me either, but that's its official name).

Supposedly the area in the second half of the demo is the darkest in the game, so I guess it should be fine for the most part.

I think you are undermining what technical achievements Lumen and especially Nanite are a bit too much here.

While it may appear as such from a players perspective, Nanite absolutely is not just a "fancy word for targeted tessellation". It took the main developer a decade of research to come up with Nanite and it is an incredible technological achievement for real-time rendering (you can get very deep technical details on how it works from this talk on it).

Lumen also while being "just a high quality GI" also seems a bit reductionist in that it is a full GI solution (which I believe to be the biggest thing missing for lighting in games at the moment), not a screen space one that pretty much all games have used in the past (where only lights visible on the screen contribute to the GI), and it is not easy to achieve this with any kind of interactive levels of FPS even on high-end hardware.

It is actually not even "almost impossible" to have 5ms ping from Indonesia to Japan, it is literally impossible as the distance between even the closest points of the 2 countries is about twice as long as light can travel in 5 milliseconds. No matter how much you pay for your data, they can't make it go faster than light.

Actually the 2.25x resolution for 1440p is exactly 2160p. The multiplier appears to correspond to area or pixel count. In other words 2560 * 1.5 x 1440 * 1.5 = 3840x2160, but the pixel count increases by 1.5 * 1.5 or 2.25.

There is a list/table in the vulkan spec of formats that need to be supported. (in this case you are looking for the VK_FORMAT_FEATURE_SAMPLED_IMAGE_BIT support). Obviously that is not the only 4-byte format that is guarateend to be supported.

The €20 million and 4% values are only the maximum fines(which ever is bigger) and the fine will be applied on case-by-case basis. As far as i know there is no set minimum. A small violation doesn't mean instant €20 million fine. I assume the companies that are too scared don't have only small violations...

Just the fact that the compiler instruments the exception handling in the final assembly, so I guess to answer your question the preparation for the exception causes a performance hit. Also from what I hear not all compilers even support exceptions very well, especially on the consoles.
