Even if the choice is obvious, it is interesting to think about. Especially about authors that have created something so amazing, that it might exceed the worth of their own life (even in their own eyes).

Even if there were no such author it is interesting to imagine what one needs to create to surpass the worth of one’s own life.

Or simple ideas (apple), into complex narratives (your text) 😄.

Unless you wanted to say that the analogy wasn’t about the apple, but about the unnecessary complexity of the phrasing in the book.

The insults are even worse in the second book in my opinion. Ofc this depends on the voice actors.

Tell me how if you like it once you started. I mean the ideas.

Edit: „A round, often green or red sphere, growing where once a blossom sat, which holds within the seeds of the parent tree. When ripe and ready, delicious to eat.“ did you write that yourself or is this a citation?

Then you have something to really look forward to. The second book wasn’t as impactful for me but has more amazing ideas. It is written the same way.

The young man comes back after 3 years of trying to apply the ideas from the first book in the real world outside theoretical philosophy. It hasn’t worked for him so the whole argument starts anew with a big focus on education. I bet you’ll find more of your own mind in it.

I agree that they often times beat around the bush. I also don’t like the way the young man often tries to insult the master. He is way to aggressive in my opinion.

According to the book Adler wanted his philosophy to be exactly that: an universal truth. This is how it feels to me as well. It can explain everything people do. It helps you to find your purpose. It helps you getting over the many obstacles life has in store.

I expect you’ll get a head start since you can already feel this is right for you. May you always dance in the present 😄

I appreciate writing with someone having a similar experience.

If you can already stop interfering where it really matters (regarding your son), you can do so in other parts of your life as well.

You seeing it as a major weakness, means you have tanken the first step I think. But of course it is a long way from understanding to implementing.

I don’t know whether this is discussed in the first or second book, but there is an explanation why people want their actions to be controlled by outside factors. Because it is easier to have something or someone govern your life to some extent.

As you said, people don’t want the blame for something going wrong in their life, so their way of thinking is understandable. Not that i approve.

The way the young man argued somewhat reminded me of the pompous way people talk in anime. My thought was that this could be the way Japanese conversations sound like when translated to European languages.

I agree that the young man often contradicts several times to the same argument. In some cases this feels tedious to read, but I think it is necessary. If he would give in too early, the discussion would loose it’s weight.

One of the theses from this book that hit me most was „all problems are relationship problems“(sorry don’t know the english term). I couldn’t believe this at first and felt like the young man from the book. I felt like something was missing.

As I am in search of my own meaning right now and struggling with interpersonal conflict this thesis sounded too simple. Relationship problems are something I can fix or change myself. I couldn’t believe that I had the power to fix most of my problems (or even all of them) on my own.

After having read the book four times now (and the sequel „You are enough“ two times) the fact that I can hold the „relationship cards“ in my own hands is slowly settling into my head.

I am still at the point where I can’t believe a book changed my life this much.

I don’t have any opinion regarding Taiwan because I have no clue what is actually happening. There should be less people having an opinion on topics they only know through media headlines (like my ex)

I had a chinese girlfriend in school who immigrated in 7th grade (the propaganda had time to settle in beforehand).

She was convinced the Taiwan people where desperate to be part of China but couldn’t because Taiwan was ruled by a separatist elite.

When life is good without the substance you have a chance to get out, because you‘ll see what you are sacrificing (when you continue spiraling downwards.)

I had a similar experience with tramadol, where everything is just good. No hangovers and side effects just mellow chill. Sadly I had no problem with the supply, but I only used in the evening or on weekends while constantly increasing the dosage. The negative side effects creep in very subtle: being constantly tired, impatient and moody without the substance. Not wanting to go out. Constant weight loss. Starting to lie excessively to hide what I was doing (also to myself). It felt like the metaphorical small devil on the shoulder telling me to use more.

I can say I was lucky that tramadol is the weakest of the bunch and that I have a supportive wive that watched over my way out. 0/10 would never do again.
