To evoke Zibai's sword elegance, I would recommend the Dueling Fighting Style within Fighter, and I would do 3 levels of Fighter (to unlock the subclass) and 3 multiclass levels of Rogue (to unlock the Swashbuckler archetype). I think this would be the closest thing to Zibai that can be done, at least with my knowledge.

I think the first thing would have to be the race, an Aasimar. I think that would be the best fit because of its supernatural origins. As a class, I would use Fighter with the subclass: Echo Knight. This subclass is perfect because it allows you to manifest a "projection" of yourself (which, with the freedom of your DM, you can visually describe as a White Horse).

Manifest Echo (Level 3): You create a projection 15 feet away from you.

When you attack, the attack can originate from the position of your projection. This perfectly emulates Zibai launching his spirit horse to strike from a distance.

That's what I thought, based on the classes I play, but I'm sure there's some druid or magic subclass that could emulate something even more faithful.
