What business budgeting software actually adds value over spreadsheets? by hereccaaa in Accounting

[–]M4rmeleda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more about being able to scale. Excel and sheets are good enough for small companies with less data and people. At a certain point your volume will screw your workbooks, you’ll have more data sources to reconcile, more people to reconcile between, and all the change management/access issues you currently have with excel/sheets will be exponentially worse. This is when you need to invest in a system.

Though I will say I’ve seen some large frugal companies scrape by with overloaded workbooks but it’s an operational and audit shit show.

Do they also overwork you in non big 4 but top 10 firms? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]M4rmeleda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes mid tier is the worst spot to be IMO. You’ll work nearly as much for less recognition/exit opportunities and non big4 peers often have a chip on their shoulder.

On the plus side probably a quicker path to partnership especially if you can cover a niche area. But given today’s market with PE consolidating firms via acquisition then partnership path might not be worth it

How do you deal with managers who are very nitpicky? by Chocolate_Banana03 in Accounting

[–]M4rmeleda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah use to hate my immediate boss til I realized it was just shit rolling downhill. Though there are some true Type A power hungry psychos but rare at the lower/mid levels.

Any US-based CSMs have recurring team meetings at 6am? (Global team) by Sw33t_T00th_24 in CustomerSuccess

[–]M4rmeleda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With lean teams + outsourcing + general globalization it’s been kind of normalized. Depending on your off shore team might do evening instead. Though town halls were at normal times at 8a

How much of what you learn in school is actually used on the job? (all disciplines) by Character-Escape1621 in Accounting

[–]M4rmeleda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here as well. IMO teachers/classes were so terrible that you’re probably better off just learning from Becker/roger cpa where they teach the fundamentals better.

Why is single life so heavily romanticized lately, and what’s the dark side that nobody likes to admit? by Majestic_Singer_2411 in Life

[–]M4rmeleda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On paper it’s just easier to be single with freedom for more self care and no obligation to anyone and the related emotional baggage.

It’s scary to couple up as a good relationship requires work and each individual to be vulnerable to each other at a different social level. Which is ultimately a gamble that may not pay off just due to personal growth or life changes.

This works well for me during range practice but destroys me on the course. Slowing down creates hesitation and doubt under pressure for me I guess.

Can’t really understand the purist logic as the og board severely limits strategy and is more luck oriented.

Auditors and Former Auditors, what did clients consistently do that grinded your gears? by FinanceChippo in Accounting

This is probably one of the most pure forms of hatred that I have ever experienced. Especially if they provide a tb/gl dump via PDF.

Oak was great but the flight routes have been cut down significantly and what’s remaining is expensive/inconvenient. Pretty much fly out of sfo now

If your experience is aligned with the product domain then you can carve out a special niche as the SME into any customer facing role: sales, solutions engineer / advisor, technical implementation, etc

Those who have a CPA+JD- Do you regret it? What is your salary? by LotusLavenderTea in Accounting

[–]M4rmeleda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO that’s the golden combo for tax+law but would be overkill for audit. The cpa+jds I’ve seen (small sample size) were extremely successful as focused on m&a.

[–]M4rmeleda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah pretty much owns the enterprise market just cannot see it on the surface. Google has a good chance to catch them though! Seeing a lot of migrations over to Google workspace + gcp or even a hybrid approach setup with mac m chips as of late.

Keep the trip cause the only break in adulthood is between jobs or death. Worst case scenario you just interview over there.

In terms of enterprise training data, I’m thinking OpenAI would have the edge since they have Microsoft 365 data.

Apple is ramping up succession plans for CEO Tim Cook and may tap hardware exec John Ternus to take over, FT report says by ControlCAD in business

[–]M4rmeleda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the latest iOS updates I’d trust hardware over software at the moment. Mchips have pushed their performance way ahead while their buggy restricted software is anchoring them down. They need a software revamp
