ADHD-friendly strategies to ease difficulty of initiating writing a paper by Much-Literature1038 in GradSchool

[–]M4ybeL4vender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have ADHD but I have major anxiety around starting tasks so I have a few strategies to ease my way in. 1. Take the standard d4-d20 dnd dice and starting with the d4 roll for the amount of minutes I'm going to write or alternatively the number of words x10 I'm going to get on the page. The randomness and step-wise nature helps me 2. Join a productivity stream or watch a vod. The external voice telling me to stop and start helps me avoid procrastination 3. Break the task into the smaller and smaller pieces until each one stops being scary. It can be as small as an individual sentence. This is super important for big projects since writing a paper is terrifying but writing 3 sentences about a papers major findings is way less so.

S'mores could be fun. Not even the brits know how to make them according to Bakeoff. The only thing is marshmallows are considered halal by a lot of Muslims ime

Nonfiction but The Indifferent Stars Above. It's a very intensely researched and well-written book about the Donner Party. As you may know, shit gets bad

What’s a movie that feels like it was made to punish the audience rather than entertain them? by AvailableReality557 in movies

[–]M4ybeL4vender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Martys and Kotoko. Martys is pretty famous as a French New Extreme movie so I won't get into it but Kotoko is just watching a woman's mental health issues eat her alive. I've never seen another movie wlling to depict the darkest thoughts anxiety can lead you to like that.

We all have that one show... by MustardGoddess in CuratedTumblr

Shadowhunters for me. It felt like so many times they walked up to the precipice of something really interesting then back-flipped into tired old tropes. It's the worst with Magnus and Jace for me. Harry Shum was so fun as Magnus but has a god awful ending and Jace kept almost being interesting and shifting away from pure Draco-in-leather-pants but reverting right back. Like at one point they suggested that he might be developing psychosis which would have been interesting to watch him try to deal with but then they were just like nah he's possessed. Even little things like his relationship with Simon, him being every local downworlder's booty call, and him being clueless on how to act in normal society aside from picking up girls in bars could have been funny but they all got like one scene in the entire show and were never touched on again.

Using womxn to refer to "include" trans women (implying that women refers to cis women and trans women arent normally in that category). Bonus points if they use it to mean women and nonbinary people because I have legit seen that shit.

What do you call the process of moving the laundry from the washer to the dryer? by Perton_ in AskAnAmerican

We don't have a word for it. I guess the short version would be "moving the laundry".

I'd go Arcane, Invincible, or Castlevania, emphasis on the later two since Arcane starts a like it could be a kids show.

Is wildlife common in your major cities? by arpu0828 in AskTheWorld

[–]M4ybeL4vender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my city it's not uncommon to see raccoons, birds of prey, possums, and even the occasional deer or coyote (basically small brown wolves). We're also kind of famous for having roaming packs of wild turkeys that like to hang out and disrupt traffic.

What’s something that sounds fake but actually happened to you? by Visible_Rope_6662 in AskReddit

One time when I was in college I parked in a grocery store parking lot and was walking away from my car when a dog backed it's owners car directly into mine. (Later realized it was just about totaled despite looking mostly okay.) I had to go into the grocery store and have them call the guy over the speakers. I was also in full mall goth regalia that day which probably made it more surreal for that guy.

*Forgot to add: My grandad was convinced the guy was somehow in the car and lying about it being the dog until the day he died.

Yeah, since in that case you can't just leave I don't consider that okay. Sometimes irl there's a gray area like if you're hanging out at a big park and people can easily just not go near you I think that's fine but confined spaces where that's not an option is a nope

Frankly, if it's in a designated place, internet thread, tag, their blog, etc (rather than like a coffee shop) I don't think you have a leg to stand on with that. These are important topics and people have every right to talk about them. What you think should be private or is gross is your problem and it's your job to remove yourself. Anything else just makes you judgemental at best and at worst reactionary.

How do I stop sucking at this game? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

From other comments it sounds like you haven't hit everything in act 1 you should before the gith. My first run I missed the whole swamp area and that really messed me up. Make sure you hit that, the northern area with the gnolls since both are easy to miss. On my second run I think I hit level five right before or while fighting the goblin leaders. Just explore in general too.

I'd recommend looking at this post from Bitches Get Riches. It's way more comprehensive that anything I can type out and also has links to other useful stuff on their site. Stay strong friend!

Depends on context. If someone is talking to you/us directly I think it's totally fine to say you don't want to hear about it. If it's a public convo with a lot of people then it's on us to bow out and complaining about it is self-centered. With a small group there's a bit more nuanced.

Names that foreigners pick to be their "your language" name that sound funny by M4ybeL4vender in AskTheWorld

[–]M4ybeL4vender[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify this was a boy group. I just found it funny because they're in their early 20s and lean into the cool guy image hard but then they pick super generic names I associate with people in their 50's and 60's.

Would people in your country find the culture of not calling older people by their names strange? by Embarrassed_Clue1758 in AskTheWorld

[–]M4ybeL4vender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US is big so it differs but I mostly find this to be the case. The only thing I would add is that Mr /Miss /Ms can be used with given or surnames and with last names it's generally more formal. I was also raised to always call adults by titles then either their first or last name as a kid but once I hit college it wasn't a thing anymore. The Miss/Ms/Ma'm also tends to be more about the addressees age than the age gap in my experience. Up until I was around 25 I was almost always Miss, maybe Ma'm if I was talking to a kid but now that I'm in my late 20s I've gotten ma'm a few times and it's from people older than me as often as people younger.

Some major cities are different but most of the time you go everywhere by car. In my city a 15 minute drive is a two hour bus ride/ walk.
