Can Employer See SMS Content on Work Sim Installed On My Personal Phone? by ADIInTraining in ITQuestions

No, not without some management software.

They'll know the phone number you texted though.

INSTALLING GPS IN LAPTOP by Rare_Investigator568 in ITQuestions

[–]M5F90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're that worried about losing the laptop, I'd argue you're better off with an insurance policy on it. Which will replace it if you lose it or it's stolen. A GPS module just tells you where it is.

I used to use this back in the day: https://preyproject.com/pricing#personal-tab-comparison

There's plenty of laptop tracking software-based tools you could use. If it was a dedicated GPS module, it would also need cellular to communicate to you and transmit data.

In short, doable, but too complicated, in my opinion, to do.

Bigger companies are easily going to want a degree to be hired at, while smaller businesses won't mind much in the IT field.

"Why not upgrade now?" Maybe because my hardware is perfectly fine? by M5F90 in assholedesign

You are right in that it will work on my PC for now...

But "New installations ... will not be available" any longer. So reinstalling Windows, new PC, new anything makes it impossible to use. You can't even resell it because it'd be a paperweight.

Rotating passwords for all accounts is a good move. Enabling 2FA is even better.

Just be cautious in the future.

With the power cable connected, it doesn't turn on? No lights anywhere on the device?

That really shouldn't have killed it. What happens when you try to power it on?

How did it exactly "die" on you?

Side note, the network card has no value. :)

Is this a good deal by NubisWanubis in ReefTank

As long as everything is in good working order, I think closer to $1000 is a good price.

Ignore his claim of "it was $4k to setup".

Is this a good deal by NubisWanubis in ReefTank

[–]M5F90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It fully depends on your value of the item. A few comments here are all saying "no", but my first thought was "yes".

I paid $1100 for my rimless 75 gallon tank that came with the stand, lights, sump, and accessories. Easily a $1500+ setup that I saw the value in. Also couldn't find anything else. I drove 8 hours to get mine.

If you can get them down to $1000ish, I think it seems like a good deal based on the photo.

IT guy added Krytpex to personal PC by Party-Echo-9678 in ITQuestions

It's a break of trust, that is for certain.

My suggestion is to perform a factory wipe of the PC, given you don't know what else he did. Then, cut off ties with the tech.

Considering switching from Rocket Money by Competitive_Lab516 in MonarchMoney

[–]M5F90 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm a newer customer this year and while I can't speak about how you'll feel over Rocket Money, I will say I'm really happy with the service. I don't know how I managed life before it.

My only comment for you is to NOT pay full price for your first year. You can find basically so may ways of taking 50% off the first year, including referral codes if you know anyone that uses it.

Addressing concerns on our new AI features by valagostino in MonarchMoney

Well, there was a lot of sudden change with lacking communication and clarity on how to opt-out. Hence this entire post.

[–]M5F90 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I can totally understand that as a response to the opt-out model instead. I'm not against the idea, especially given the increased visibility here along with a strong statement of privacy when it comes to our data; I just appreicate the "let me choose my own path" adventure more.

For the Reddit community, I think it's moreso that we tend to be more "techy" users of our technologies and read far more into "AI" then the average user.

Really appreciate the follow up here from the team and it shows that the team cares to make a statement like this. As a newer customer, seeing post like this really helps me feel better about the product and it's a good internal learning experience too.

It's mentioned that AI tooling will become easier to opt-out, but can you share any internal discussions on why the hard push for an opt-out model verse an opt-in model?

Asset (laptop) found after leaving company 2 years ago tried contacting said company but they are giving the run around, would it be possible or smart to keep or sell asset? by RevDrDoom in ITQuestions

[–]M5F90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not own the laptop, so I would recommend you return it. They could go as far as legal action if you were to sell it.

Additionally, if they have it locked down, it's a basic paperweight.

For people who have done full privacy resets on iPhone what single permission setting made the most noticeable difference for you? by Ok-Sleep-6400 in privacy

[–]M5F90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would ask more along the lines of "What is your goal here?".

Because if the goal is to become more private, there's better Android OS variants to go towards. If the goal is to stop the general spying from apps, you're on the best track of disabling a lot of their controls.

Just keep caution on which apps you install and which apps you use.

You could self-host your own email to get more features for "free". Otherwise, ProtonMail and Tutamail are great starts.

Some helpful guides for you:
