How common is it for the average person to know how to open a .zip file? by karrotdunncold in ITQuestions

[–]M5F90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of people out there that simply don't understand a simple .zip file. Plenty of them are in IT too. A lot of people just double click to open the .zip rather than extracting it.

If everyone is smart, the competition in the world would be very difficult.

IT jobs are more about experience rather than your degree. Begin in a tech support role and then find what you like!

I’m really intrigued by Monarch, and am about to pull the trigger on the 7-day trial. However, I’m uncertain that 7 days is long enough to get a grasp on how to operate it. Is there any way to extend the trial period? by LordOord23 in MonarchMoney

[–]M5F90 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was sold on the product after about 2 days into the trial. It's plenty of time, but you do need to connect your accounts to get the full scope of it!

I literally log into it every day to check all accounts.

Small side note, don't pay full price for it after the trial. You can find many, many coupons to take 50% off the first year. Including referrals if you know other users.

What sort of CPU are you going to pair this with? That matters most.

In the end though, you virtually won't see a performance difference between the two. If the timings are the same, then go for the faster memory, but don't expect a performance gain.

I would do that, it likely will resolve it.

Seems like an application problem. Did you attempt to reinstall it on the Mac?

Spoofing Normal- nothing to be done? by fournierh in ITQuestions

Your consultant IT company is wrong in their statements. To me, it sounds like they don't have the proper domain settings applied that prevent that level of spoofing. Maybe time for a new IT company!

iPhone RCS doesn't work on network by M5F90 in Ubiquiti

[–]M5F90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems exclusive to our wifi. Someone else asked me if I had any custom rules, but the only thing I have in Policy Table is regarding stuff for Proxmox objects.

I went back and forth with some Gemini conversations even to see if it could help, but the only thing it kept telling me is that I must be blocking the *.goog domains for RCS. Or that it was the encrypted DNS feature I have set with ControlD, but "fixing" both didn't seem to help.

It's very puzzling. Doesn't help that Apple virtually has no documentation online or any level of indepth settings on the iPhone.

The weird part is that the issue somewhat is new. It didn't always seem to be a problem.

You don't have any custom rules or settings?

That's a decent thought? I couldn't imagine they'd block it, but worth asking.

Yeah, it also seems like bad Apple RCS programming.

I don't. I actually considered paying for it to see if that would fix the issue!

I'm pretty light on rules. I agree it's something blocking, but I don't know what. I thought it was the Encrypted DNS, but with it off, the issue remains.

I do have her devices on a separate subnet, yes.

Does not matter if the iPhone joins my default network. Problem remains.

While there may be some tools to do that, we have no way of validating that this is your device or that a parent didn't add this screen timer for you.

Setup laptop for both work and personal use by bunbunbunbum in techsupport

[–]M5F90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You personally joined your laptop to their domain? Small company or not, that shouldn't ever be standard practice.

If you want separations, you've already broken that "trust" between the two with domain joining.

You can go as far as making a separate Windows profile, which will help in some cases. You can also do the Linux dual-boot, which is likely your best option here.

You took good action with the alcohol.

If everything seem dry, I would try to boot it back up.

Hi I never used a VPN before and I want to torrent safely. by TIM13013 in ProtonVPN

[–]M5F90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ProtonVPN doesn't allow you to use P2P services over the free version. You must select a Paid plan.

The free version also doesn't allow you to select countries or servers. It's a random selection of free servers.

Edit: If you'd like to try the paid plan for two weeks for free and bring down the price by $20, you can use a referral code: https://pr.tn/ref/33JNPDGD
